I get what they're trying to say as far as he's good at the things you can teach and not good at the things you can't, but that doesn't mean he can't improve a lot. The game clearly seemed too fast for him last year. If it slowed down, what happens if he becomes great at the things you can't teach instead of good? Realistically I don't think he can be a top 10 qb ever either, but there are definite improvements that can be made where his ceiling is a lot higher than some people think. I'm not saying he will ever reach that ceiling necessarily though.

First off I hope he ends up great. Second off I agree that he doesn't fit Bryce. Like you said he is a pretty specialized receiver with a very specific role. Everyone wants him to be a dk Metcalf which is his ceiling, but my question is what overall consistently good offense has a #1 receiver who plays this role. It's a dated role. Most of all our moves always feel dated unfortunately.

He didn't do agility drills. For a reason. The ras is incomplete.

In 4 seasons combined he had 42 catches for 423 yards and 5 tds. That's 4 seasons added together. I think it's nicer to say he wasn't on the field. A lot of players go undrafted putting those numbers up in one season.

He doesn't though. He has good straight line speed for his weight. He has good body weight and muscle mass. He's 6' that's not especially big, and then when you factor in his short arms and small hands it's not much more than a short wr reach wise. He also doesn't have much fluidity/change of direction/or short area quickness. Everyone just thinks he's an elite athlete because of his 40 and his weight and because SC had him listed at 6'3 or something which ended up being way off.

Couldn't get on the field in *4 years. He was a 5th year senior.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Panthers are always still trying to draft and build teams like it's the late 90s/early 2000s

He's not a league insider. He's a random Pittsburgh freelance guy who saw a couple tweets and wrote an article about it.

It's not even that they're long shots. They're almost always older "raw" prospects. I don't even normally see them as potential high ceiling guys. People comparing him to Metcalf like it's a given but he's shorter, has much shorter arms, and small hands. It's like we draft old "raw" guys but still draft for high floor instead of ceiling.

It means nothing in the big picture. The thing that makes this worrisome is the problems he's shown so far are the exact problems I was worried about before we drafted him. Being stiff and fast in any way besides long and straight. Separation. It would just have been a lot less worrisome if those weren't the exact possible issues that came up in training camp so far. It's no different than people who were worried about Bryce's deep ball last camp.

Maybe, I don't even understand what he was trying to do in the 2nd video though. No separation and then he slightly cut inside and just stopped at the oob? I believe it was probably supposed to be a fade to the corner and for some reason he just didn't do that.

Yea none of our receivers fit our qb skill set and needed offensive scheme based on said qb and offensive line personnel besides Diontae, but they keep chasing this same big fast in a straight line but stiff and slow in the short area mold like Young is just going to be throwing play action deep bombs all game. One day we will get a gm who understands the modern nfl, and draft some route running receivers who are explosive in the short area, but that time is not now.

Exactly. The NFL has changed in the past 20 years and we still seem stuck in the stone age with most of our personnel decisions. In the modern nfl you want receivers that are good route runners who are shifty and have short area quickness. Gone are the days of just throwing 50/50 bombs to a big receiver with no separation.

To be fair, I've not seen anyone that said he had a good day. Any tweet I saw from anyone there or local sports media said he didn't have a catch at all and didn't look especially focused.

Not even athletic really. Just a long strider who is fast in a straight line. Hopefully he gets it figured out how to maximize his talents though. You would think after doing absolutely nothing his first 4 years in college, he would come out working his ass off to show his 5th year wasn't a fluke.

It literally means nothing right now but getting open at all has been my biggest fear for him. I'm just tired of drafting these receivers that are fast in a straight line and that's it. First day of training camp means literally nothing, it's just not the best sign when you hear your #1 fear brought up after one day.

Didn't they do tickets and say basically all dates were sold out? Seems like a bunch of people got tickets and didn't go.

I'm fine with taking the chance we did on coaches. I feel OK about that. I don't understand the huge pass Dan is getting though. I get that Fitterer was absolutely awful, but this draft and a lot of the decisions felt exactly like Fitterer moves. Hopefully I'm wrong, but so far it seems like Dan has the same eye for talent that Fitterer did. Which would make sense since Dan kind of came up under him.

I agree with this. Besides a couple plays he looked much worse when things broke down and he was creating. Things were too fast for him physically. Bunch of throw aways, unnecessary sacks, and bad decisions. I think, like a qb like Tua, he needs to be in structure and not try to force things. Just get the ball to the playmakers.

I personally liked Benson better and he went later and was healthy, but oh well. Hopefully Brooks will be good when healthy.

Ever since I got a new phone, it randomly freezes from time to time here. No other site, only the huddle. My old phone never did it though so no idea what's happening. Not sure if it's another problem with site upkeep or what.

That's a sign he's asking for too much money for where he's at in his career.
