Elite defensive coordinators can scheme up pressures the same way good offensive coordinators can scheme people open imo.

I disagree strongly. Blitzing and being aggressive puts you at risk of getting burned. We are getting burned anyway. We are giving up the most points in the NFL by far playing it safe and letting them run down our throats and the qb stand back all day and pick our secondary apart. At least when you play aggressive and blitz you have the chance to cause confusion or make the qb make a mistake. We don't have the coverage talent to play super soft and let the qb have all day to throw either. We are a historically bad defense this season playing soft and safe. What is there to lose?

Panthers dead last in point differential at -100, 2nd worst is -65

So 22.5 points per game without young which would put us right in the middle. -

What do they rank in ppg the past 4 games? -

That is going to happen once you're behind and the other team is running the clock out and your offense has to pass to try to get back in to the game. -
Exactly. That's the problem. You could say run the ball and it takes the ball out of the other teams hands but that doesn't matter if you can't make a defensive stop. If they score on almost every drive then it still doesn't matter and you're still going to end up playing from behind and inevitably forced to pass anyways.

I don't want to reach on a qb just to take one. If there is no qb worth the #1 pick then don't reach. We clearly need defensive talent and especially pass rush which this draft should have a lot of.
-
Yea. Ian Thomas being back is a net negative. No idea why we keep looking his direction. Dumb decision by Dalton but he was assuming Thomas would run a better route and use his size advantage to screen off corner.
-
That's the thing, it wasn't great last year. It looked really good in certain metrics but those metrics were mostly skewed.
-
We showed blitz and actually blitzed and they fell apart. You can scheme pressure the same as a good offensive coach can scheme someone open.
-
It's the Evero scheme. Play soft prevent zone all game.
-
Evero's scheme has always been soft. That's why I've never been a huge fan. He's a solid coach I just hate playing soft defense. I prefer a more aggressive defensive scheme.

Coker is our best young receiver.

Because it's harder to body catch on the move.
-
Yea which is sad considering they only have 5 total sacks so far this season.

BREAKING: Marquis Haynes, Ian Thomas added to active roster

I believe he chose to set out the covid season and then had a major injury early the next season. If I remember correctly. -
Exactly. I've felt that ever since the draft. I was worried it was going to be Fitterer 2.0 as soon as we promoted Morgan and as soon as the draft happened it almost confirmed my fears.
-
Morgan wants to build a team like it's 1999. In 99 running backs were really valuable.
-
Right now, especially with the injuries and awful play in general on defense, I'm raiding teams practice squads just to take flyers on guys with potential. Like Shaka Heyward on Bengals practice squad or Andre Carter on the vikings practice squad. I believe both those guys are still on the practice squad.
-
The thing with drafting guys for potential is they need to be young. Not a bunch of 5th year seniors. Those guys are pretty much what they're going to be. I also don't even see the really high ceiling on most of these guys. Good size and fast 40 aren't all it takes to have a high potential ceiling.
-
I think xl looks exactly like i thought he would before the draft. No separation and limited route tree. The drops and body catching have been a bit of a surprise. I wouldn't say he's looked horrible. I will sau he hasn't done anything to ease my concerns. I also think Coker looked better with less opportunities
-
Even his draft of players to surround Bryce with this past draft are looking horrible. None of them pass the eye test of being difference makers so far. Hopefully that will change but I wasn't a fan of the draft at all at the time and I'm still not. Coker shows the most promise of any of our younger wr and he wasn't even drafted.
-
Both. Our gms are always obsessed with old ideologies of teams that don't work anymore and I have no idea how we haven't thrown out our entire scouting department in the past few years. I don't think we have replaced hardly any of our scouting department over the year even though we are the worst drafting team in the league. It makes absolutely no sense.
-
My biggest problem is that we never value route running or quickness or explosiveness in our evaluations of receivers. We look at height/weight and 40 time. That seems to literally be all.
