Great episode of this podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tom-dundon-carolina-hurricanes-owner/id1292603914?i=1000507668574 The higlights: Has not spent as much time in Raleigh as he used to when he first bought the team, trusts the front office to do their jobs Initially was with the team a ton to shake up the culture on the hockey and business side Implies that hiring Rod was one of his best decisions Really wanted to improve the facilities - especially the locker room and practice facility (new one just opened up in Morrisville) had STRONG praise for assistant GM Eric Tulksy, one of the better analytics minds in hockey He would be "crushed" if Andrei Svechnikov signed elsewhere GM Don Waddell is working on extensions right now Lots of other good bits, but that was the key stuff

Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that goaltender Petr Mrazek has undergone surgery on his right thumb. A timetable for his return will be determined in the coming days. Mrazek, 28, has registered a 2-1-0 record, 0.99 goals-against average, .955 save percentage and two shutouts in four appearances in 2020-21. He currently leads all NHL goaltenders in goals-against average and save percentage, and he is one of five netminders to earn two shutouts so far this season. The 6'1", 190-pound goaltender has earned a 46-31-5 record, 2.48 goals-against average, .911 save percentage and nine shutouts in 84 appearances with the Hurricanes since joining the team as a free agent on July 1, 2018. Mrazek has posted a 124-95-28 record, 2.60 goals-against average, .911 save percentage and 23 shutouts in 267 career NHL games with Detroit, Philadelphia and Carolina. The Ostrava, Czech Republic, native was drafted by the Red Wings in the fifth round, 141st overall, of the 2010 NHL Draft. https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/petr-mrazek-undergoes-surgery-on-right-thumb/c-321055268

two thoughts so far: Staal is an amazing player and does so much that does not end up in the stat sheets. Trocheck might be one of the best trade pickups we've had in years -

How to watch the Canes this season
CanesFanStan replied to CanesFanStan's topic in Carolina Hurricanes
I've been on Spetrum all season and its not bad. $20 cheaper than Youtube TV -
I think Ned has talent - I remember that one huge win he had vs. Vancouver in (i think) was his NHL debut. He's a slightly above average backup, but we might get hot and be OK. Plus the team played lights out this weekend and that was without some major key players like Slavin, Turbo and Marty.

Two years ago the Cane unveiled a new uniform with diagonal text, which is somewhat common in hockey. The Rangers took offense and the Canes had fun with it: and after sweeping the Rangers in the playoffs: So last night, another jab was thrown, but the Penguins didn't get the joke and paid for it:

Really good first period. Team looks crisp tonight, considering the layoff. -
with so many players out with covid, rookie Steven Lorentz is making his debut. He spent four seasons with the Charlotte Checkers https://nsjonline.com/article/2021/01/steve-lorentzs-winding-path-to-the-nhl-starts-tonight-with-debut/
