  1. Honestly, Sam Darnold is a lump of clay. He played LB in High School until his Senior season - he was so physically talented that he was ranked a 4 star and earned a scholarship from a major College programme (the guy that recruited him, the DC, actually wanted him to play LB at USC!) He started 2 years in College. He then went to a dysfunctional franchise with one of the worst professional staffs ever assembled. He didn't even have a dedicated QB Coach. He's as raw a professional QB as you're likely to see. With all that he's still only 24 - and as I read earlier this week, if you put his best 20 plays in the NFL on a 'sizzle' tape they stack up with anyone. He now has a well respected QB coach to fix his mechanical flaws (footwork!), a good supporting cast of skill position players and a hot commodity OC calling plays for him. We should be excited as fans rather than wringing our hands that we didn't get the 21 year old we fell in love with pre-Draft. TL;DR it's a calculated gamble. It's not like we've got a Super Bowl contending roster sat here waiting for a QB - we're just two years removed from the awful roster Hurney / Rivera assembled. Best case scenario - he turns into another Josh Allen redemption story. Worst case scenario - we go again next year.
  2. Rhule wants to play an aggressive man defence. You can't do that without CBs who can take away their man in single coverage. Horn provides us the ability to do that - in a pass happy league, CBs have become extraordinarily valuable. This isn't your Ron Rivera / John Fox era where you could hide CBs in zone behind a great Dline. You need both with how slanted the rules are in 2021.
  3. Yep, Bayless is your usual TC hero at the moment. If we carry 6 WRs on the roster that 6th guy has to be a STs ace.
  4. The correct answer is as long as possible. You're not evaluating Grier and Walker - you know exactly what they bring to the table. Darnold and the #1s should be in as long as possible - that Oline needs extended snaps to gel.
  5. Controversial opinion: Shockey is the best TE we've ever had in Charlotte.
  6. We carried 3 QBs last year. We don't undervalue the QB position (backup or starter), but we just can't find any quality.
  7. Didn't they try that with Joe Adams?
  8. We're stacked at CB: Horn, Jackson, Bouye, Taylor, Pride, Thomas Oliver (have spent recent Draft picks on all) and Hartsfield.
  9. If he's not TE2 coming out of Training Camp then you can mark him down as a bust. Ian Thomas is a terrible football player.
  10. 0 back-to-back winning seasons. .546 win percentage in 9 years. Not. Good. Enough.
  11. I didn't like Sewell as much as most (I wouldn't have screamed and hugged my HC as the GM when I drafted him), but he's surely a mouldable piece of clay. He hasn't played football in like 15 months and he's so young - if he moves to the RT position he's got to stick there for mine. Can't then ask him to re-learn his footwork in Year 2 to switch to LT.
  12. To be fair if we hear David Moore's name as an OL he's done something wrong.
  13. He was coached by one of the best in College, TRob, and he has the bloodlines. If he's improved his hand placement THAT quickly, and this snap wasn't just an aberration then this kid is going to be spectacular. He's clearly coachable as heck.
  14. If he's another Gamble I'd do back flips - that guy is massively underrated by Panthers fans. This coming from a Hurricanes fan who has never forgiven him for being involved in the 2002 National Championship travesty. That was never PI. Neither Bradberry or Gamble got Pro Bowls / All Pros because they didn't turn the ball over enough. Those are the flashy stats that voters want to see - that and playing in a small media market at 1pm every Sunday.
  15. Do we know it was 11 on 11 / 7 on 7 and not just 1 on 1?
  16. Perryman was a 2 time first team All-ACC player. I don't think you quite appreciate how difficult it is for a Hurricane to win those honours in a conference run by the Tobacco Road Mafia. Injuries aside he's light years better than Carter. He's not the long term answer, but he's a massive upgrade from Carter and Whitehead.
  17. I was in 'high school' (College over here, but y'know semantics) at the time. When we hit X-Clown in double overtime I woke up everyone in the house - it was like 4am at that point.
  18. I personally consider third round picks to be rolls of the dice - well at least for a franchise like ours. The franchises that consistently win consistently hit on those old 'first day' picks. So, with my criteria of ruling out third round picks as potential busts, my top 5 (in no particular order): Dwayne Jarrett Bruce Nelson Rashard Anderson Rae Carruth Eric Shelton
