I will be banned if he goes somewhere else and shows out and Young dies on an innocuous play and Stroud hits a 'competent NFL starter' ceiling.

We made the trade to get into the QB conversation - it's pretty clear now that only Levis has a shot of being there at #9 overall and that's a hard no from me. We've been repeatedly told that the difference between acquiring #1 and #3 was negligible in terms of Draft capital, so we pulled the trigger. With regards to Richardson sitting - honestly I think that's the last thing he needs. He has 13 career starts (and is THIS advanced with his pocket presence / movement, reads and anticipation) - the guy needs to play football. He's only going to learn through experience. You need to tweak his mechanics, but that's what the offseason and Training Camp is for.

He can't block for poo and he's soft. As a late round flier, sure, but nothing more. Also Brown didn't call plays in Miami.

Who Wears What Number? (Future/change of pace thread)

Richardson wouldn't pick #15. I assume Corral would want some of Young's signing bonus to give him #9. Same with Thompson and Stroud with #7. -
Which player will benefit the most in the 3-4 Defense
OldhamA replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
From the transition to a 3-4 system? Burns. From the DC himself? I'm hoping Chinn. -
At the end of the day many were worried that Matt Corral was too small - he's 2 inches taller and 20lbs heavier than Young.
-
I'm also not sure why they've highlighted a play where Young's OLine gives him an age to complete a PA bomb down the field. How does that support their argument?
-
If you prefer smart and careful then you must have hated the trade up to #1 overall.

Get ready for Derrick Browns next contract…..

As long as it's going to very good NFL players, who cares? You only get in trouble if it's going to Draft busts or over-the-hill Free Agents. -
If the NFL was pure 7-on-7 I'd take Young as he's unlikely to get crushed by a 300lb man. Unfortunately it's not.
-
He's not head and shoulders above anyone - he's going to be the smallest guy on your roster.
-
Anthony fuging Richardson. Young and Levis are hard nos from me. Stroud would be ok, but it's not a HR swing.
-
I worry about his arm strength at the next level - he's going to have to throw with a ton of anticipation. That said, the blueprint is there with Manning / Brady et al. He seems like a great bloke and he's clearly determined to make himself the best version of himself he can be, so we'll see.

David Newton: Panthers leaning toward Bryce Young

Genuinely, what is there to coach up with Stroud? His mechanics are picture perfect. Sure, you can help him with how he processes the game, but that also comes with experience. -
I think it's basically whether he wants it or not - which yes, will be determined by the interviews. You can see he already processes well and has excellent pocket presence for someone so inexperienced. If I'm making the pick he's the guy - but I'm not so it'll be Bryce Stroud.

There's like 5 players in the starting line-up in basketball - it's the same for hockey too, right? I assume their drafts are short. The baseball draft is like 50 rounds long, half the picks don't even sign and even then they disappear for 2-3 years in their developmental system IF they're any good. A MLB team will have what, 130+ players in their system? Apples to oranges. In the NFL you HAVE to get that pick right immediately or you're throwing millions of dollars away and getting coaches fired. The guy you pick has to be good enough to crack a 53 man roster of College All-Stars at 21/22 - takes time to find that player. -
Must be the same rule you have for Packers fans.
-
Fair enough - we're on the same page with Richardson. If you take him you're taking that home run swing (to follow up on that home run swing you took by trading away every-fuging-thing to get to #1 overall). It's the brass balls on the table, "I trust my expensively assembled coaching staff to improve this player" move - and really it's just the short accuracy you have to work on. That's a footwork issue 'cos he's so inexperienced and was surrounded by dogshit coaches in Florida (and dogshit receivers tbf).
-
He has embraced mental health - he's distanced himself from a (very marketable) nickname that associates him with mass school shootings.
-
I'm surprised it took that long. Every game I've watched of his I've sat up in my chair and thought "Damn". I've said a few times he's going to get GMs fired. I can see us looking back in 5 years and saying "well it's nice that Stroud is a consistent Top 15 / 20 QB, but how did we pass over league MVP Richardson again?"

The NFL coaches don't even focus on the Draft until the season is over - they listen to the scouts, but they make their own judgements. You need to give them as much time as possible to actually evaluate the players and with the NFL stupidly adding an extra game that means less offseason for them to do so. -
Why waste what? We've simply upgraded our WR and TE rooms to lower-mid league standard. It had to be done regardless of who we drafted to play QB.
