Kiper Mock 2.0: Mac Jones to Panthers at #8.
OldhamA replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
I know the NFL Draft is about projection, but one dude played two years for Alabama and won the National Championship putting up ridiculous numbers on a loaded team. The other played a single season in the FBS (and hasn't played in a year) and won the National Championship putting up ridiculous numbers on a loaded team. If you can't see why some teams would have Jones above Lance then I don't know what to tell you. -
Report: Deshaun Watson would OK trade to Carolina Panthers

Their option right now is trade Watson (and then find a replacement in the Draft / through the trade), or call Watson's bluff and be forced to start McCarron. -

There's 0% chance they're starting the season with AJ McCarron under C. -
I genuinely don't think he was 'beat out' by Hill. I think Payton spent the year reworking Winston as a QB because he sees him as the long term solution. He much preferred to throw Hill to the wolves rather than unleash Winston before he's ready. I guess we'll see if I'm right - if they let Winston walk I'm obviously not.

Report: Deshaun Watson would OK trade to Carolina Panthers

At the end of the day they're going to have to trade him. The situation is toxic right now. For the Texans it's all about positioning yourself for the best haul to repair the damage of losing your 25 year old franchise QB. If the Jets and the Dolphins are interested I'm not even picking up the phone to the Panthers. -
Could we be sleeping on Mac Jones? Charlie Weiss says YES.

I feel the same way, but about Trey Lance. Jones isn't making it out of the first round btw. -
Peter King on Panthers and Deshaun Watson

I mean you just need to have watched them play to see that Jones had a better final season in College. Tanking for Tua was dumb - and quite frankly I hope that they try to rectify that by trading for Watson. -

Genuine question, what has Tua done that makes him more impressive than Jones? People poo on Jones on here, yet think Tua's part of any Dolphins deal for Watson. -
Here's a thought - why would be at the top of any FA QB's list? We're pushing Bridgewater out of the door after one average season. I'd be hesitant to sign on the dotted line with such a franchise if I had other options.

Beating Ron Rivera felt awesome.

I just want to see an improvement of the team. The QB is the final piece of a Championship team, but it isn't the only piece. I'd be fine with them starting Bridgewater next year - but I don't think that's going to happen regardless. It's pretty clear that something has gone on behind the scenes and feelings have been hurt.

For all his bluster, that's his defining moment as a Panther.

I really do wonder what people were watching last year. He was a competent NFL starter - 3,700 yards, 3 receivers having career years with him. His contract isn't ideal, but damn you'd think he has leprosy with how some of you act about him.
-
It's the OSU system - but unfortunately it means you have to rebuild him from the ground up once he gets into the NFL. He has the physical tools.
-
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
-
He's not a good player either.
-
If the Chinless Wonder gets rid of Thompson and Boston in his first offseason I'll crown his ass. Clearly he knows what's up.
-
He's twice the player YGM is - and I like YGM.
-
The fact that he's been a healthy scratch is every reason why you move on from him.

I'm stuck on keeping as many Draft picks as possible, yes. Sure you can go and try to duplicate what the Rams have done, but I'd much rather follow through with the tried and tested method of building your team through the Draft. Rhule got a tune out of players like Smith / Hartfield / Franklin, but c'mon they're not long term options at their positions. They're marginal NFL players. Carter looked less worse than he did under Rivera, but again he's a marginal NFL player. You can't win with too many of those on your roster - which is what we have now.
-
Not much of a rebuild if you trade away all your Draft capital for the next three years.

The thing with the Jets is that they're currently set up to acquire a BUNCH of talent with all their additional picks. So, theoretically, they could cash all of that in NOW to pick up this uber-Franchise QB monster that you can't possibly compete without. Sure, it slows down their rebuild somewhat (1 talented, guaranteed NFL player at the most important position of need rather than 3-4 potential talented NFL players) , but they're not selling their future for him - they'd just be resetting their Draft capital back to the norm. The Jets and the Dolphins are the only two places that it makes sense for Watson to go. Everyone else, with that price tag, is selling their future for him. So unless you think the rest of your team is in place for 2-3 years and this guy is going to put you over the top, steer well clear.
