To Sign or not to Sign - Bridgewater vs Draft. DRAFT
OldhamA replied to CPcavedweller's topic in Carolina Panthers
Moore, Samuel and Anderson had career years with this 'awful' QB and McCaffrey missed most of the season. We'd have been better with a better QB, obviously, but not by a lot. Of course roster building is never done, but we have very few core pieces on the roster right now. The ones you'd consider in that role are first / second year players so who knows how they develop. -

What? -
To quote the great Dave Chappelle: "Sharon, with all due respect, that murderer ran for over 11,000 yards". Yes, if he can help my team win football games.

I guess that's fair, it could be historically bad like the 1999 Draft. -

Hence 'deep' into the Playoffs. We might have backdoored our way in with a better QB, but we'd have been smashed regardless. -

Bridgewater is nothing like Allen. Allen is your typical dumb gunslinger who doesn't read a defence very well and thinks he can fit the ball into every window. Bridgewater generally reads the game very well, but is hugely conservative with the ball because he knows the limitations of his arm - he leaves a lot of yards / points on the field. -

Nobody genuinely knew who Wilson or Jones were this time last year and Lance hasn't played for a year. This isn't a historic QB class at all. -

Nah, Watson couldn't drag his team to more than 4 wins last year. Everyone's hero, Newton, couldn't drag his team to back to back winning seasons. QB is hugely important, but so is the rest of the roster. We're not at the point where the (mediocre starting) QB is the difference between being a consistent threat to go deep into the Playoffs or not. -
You do realise Mond played for Texas A&M, right?

I'd be delighted if we were just a good QB away. Our roster is miles away from that being a reality right now. Two more Drafts like the last one and I'll change my tune. -

The Bridgewater trade rumours were at the same time we were in the running for Stafford and Watson. You can't trade him away if you don't have a backup plan. Grier and Walker aren't NFL calibre players. You can't go into the Draft NEEDING to draft a player - that's how you end up with a bust. -

I think YGM will still see a lot of game time - he's got the prototypical 4-3 SDE size that nobody else on our roster does. He'll be our best run defender at DE I feel. -
49ers just traded to possibly get....Mac Jones

Mahomes isn't mobile, per se. Not in the same way an Allen, Herbert or a Watson is. -
Trey Lance - best QB of this draft not named Lawrence
OldhamA replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
Lance is a complete project pick. He has all the physical tools you look for, but his mechanics need a lot of work and his lack of experience is startling. He's a second round pick in most years, but evidently this isn't a normal year. -
Why would the Jaguars trade him? He's a very affordable backup who has proven he's more than capable of starting in the NFL. Those guys are gold dust.
-
God I hope not.

Elway and Young were before my time. As I understand it though they're both mobile QBs.

No. No. I was all for sitting at #8 and considering him, depending who else was still available. I'm not giving away three first round picks for him - or anyone in our current situation. -

The same owner that moved them to Santa Clara? -
How many of you guys have serious gambling debts? Stop throwing good money after bad in this desire for a QB. The 49ers have set the market - it's ridiculous. We're in no position to mortgage our future for one player. Sit tight at #8 and see what happens on April 30. Be very open to trading back.

Yes. -
I disagree - the best I've seen that system run was when the Broncos had Jake Plummer - a mobile QB. You have to have a mobile QB in that system to account for the athletic zone blocking Olinemen not holding up against the pass.

I'm pretty much Jones' biggest fan on the board and even I don't think they've traded all that for him.
