I'm open to anything at this point. As I've continued to say, we essentially gave up our third round pick this year for a year (possibly two) of control for Darnold. Some people are thinking we should spend a third round pick on Trask / Mills et al. What's the difference? If the coaching staff think Jones is THE GUY (and his season at Alabama suggests he could be) then go for it. Personally I think he's going #3 overall. I've no idea why there's so much noise coming out of the Santa Clara 49ers - there's no way they traded THAT much Draft capital not to know who they were taking.

The Big Boys Club: O-line Draft Academy w/ Geoff Schwartz
OldhamA replied to OldhamA's topic in 2023 NFL Draft
Wasn't as good as I was hoping, to be honest. Very much a puff piece with little depth. Also Geoff would marry Sewell if his wife allowed it. -
He hasn't played a single snap in the NFL...

Btw if Lance goes in the Top 10 I'm going ALL-IN on any mofo that complains about the quality of the QBs in the next Draft. Kid has one year of tape, two years ago, against sub-par competition. Evidently you can have a good season and go wherever you want (to be fair Wilson and Jones fall into this category too, to a lesser extent).

The ideal scenario for me is trading down from #8 for a boatload of picks. Unfortunately we never seem to get into that situation as a franchise - and when you hear than the Falcons / Lions are begging people to trade with them you kinda figure it's just not going to be our night again.

Why do people hate Marty Hurney? It's a results based business. He's not my friend. Rivera failed here for a decade.

Can't stand the guy. Even the golden retriever couldn't save that video.

Dude appeared to be the first offer on A LOT of NFL guys too. Clearly has an eye for talent.

How many week 1 starters could the Panthers get this weekend?
OldhamA replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Rhule strikes me as the type of coach that has an open competition every year - unlike Fox and Rivera who favoured the veterans. If we have as good a Draft as we did in 2020 you could easily get 3-4 immediate starters over the weekend at multiple spots - I don't think any position group is out of the question to be honest, besides perhaps RB. -
What Are You Going To Be Upset About If We Draft A

Got your eye on Lou Hedley next year too huh? Good man. -

Exactly. I'll be upset if we don't take the best player available. If we get a middling LT for 6 years, but the pick after ours is an All-Pro LB I'll be disappointed. -
I'm on record as not being the biggest Cam Newton fan - for reasons that I won't get into as I'll just get poo'd. That said, c'mon it's clearly Cam Newton. The two plays I'd submit for evidence: the 50 yard TD run against the Bucs where he burst through the hole, juked a LB and stiff armed a DB & the 70+ yard back foot throw rolling to his left he made to Smith early in his career (can't find a highlight of it 'cos Smith was tackled at the one). I don't know of any other NFL QB that could do those two things.

When it comes to OT - honestly I don't believe in the ability to play RT, but not LT. You can either play on an island in the NFL or you can't. People saying "oh he can only play RT" are basically saying "NFL DCs are going to attack him every time they want to generate pressure". Obviously there's exceptions to this - but those LTs who are pure erasers are few and far between. I'm also aware that you can leave the TE in to help block... Oline play to me, once you get past the physical requirements, is all about communication and attitude. You're only as strong as your weakest link - but you're also greater than the sum of your parts if you work well together. It's why I'd sink at least two high picks into the Oline this Draft (I'd be happy to pick up two OTs, see which one wins the OT job in Training Camp and move the other one inside to OG) - just stack the room and let the grow together into a unit.

Man I'd love to be in an NFL War Room - a) cos that'd be a fun career and b) cos it'd be great to see all the opinions flying around. I'm such a 'floor' guy that players like Walter Little just aren't on my board until laaaaate. Farley has a bunch of injury concerns so I wouldn't be high on him either. Someone like Darrisaw I'd have had to speak to everyone who's ever coached him and probably had a psychologist have a chat with him too. Dude does 'just enough' on every play. I'd want to find out what that is about 'cos he has the physical / technical skills to play LT in the NFL at a high level. He's the Ying to Teven Jenkins' Yang. To me the late rounds are where you take the fliers on potential. Early rounds I want the most productive, technically sound players that tick the boxes athletically for their position.

I mean I've literally watched every College snap of his. I doubt he played at 250lbs at Miami - I'd bet that's Pro Day weight. To me he's an H-back type TE (lines up in the backfield at times / put him in motion). Jonnu Smith is a good size comparison for him. I don't think he's as good as Njoku (who's misused in Cleveland - I'd LOVE to trade for him) or Herndon. I don't think he's as good as Mallory either - but then I like my TEs who can play above the rim. That said, he's dynamic, for a TE, when he gets the ball in his hands and a willing in-line blocker. He'll carve out a good career somewhere in the NFL. He'd be the best TE on our roster - but ideally he'd be your H-back / 2nd TE rather than the main guy. A 3rd round pick is fair value for him and, in the right system with the right QB / OC combo, he'll be a problem.

Yep, zero interest in picking up a CB with 1 year remaining on his contract. At least as a major piece of the trade.

FFS these heartless stats guys piss me off. "ThE pAnThErS nOt BlAtAnTlY tAnKiNg WaS a MiStAke" fug off. You play to win the game.
