New Coach Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo
TLGPanthersFan replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
I hope Tepper talked to Wilks about that Tampa game. If he wants to be here longer than a year or two he has to cut the conservative play-not-to-lose crap. There is a reason why Rivera had so little success because coaches like Rivera, Fox and Wilks depend so much on a coin flip. Hoping everything goes according to plan and if not just keep doing the same thing with no adjustments. It is why Fox and Rivera had so many losing seasons even though they had so much elite talent, and why during the few seasons everything clicked the Panthers were really good. TLDR: Wilks and Rivera style of coaching depends too much on luck. I would hope Tepper would tell Wilks that he has to change how he coaches or put him on a very short leash. I do not have much faith in interim HC being given the full time job. History says they just do not work out. -
That’s that.
-
Still think it is more likely we trade up then trade for Carr. I feel the front office is as tired of retreads QBs as the fanbase is.
-
I’d just take a proven NFL coach period. Doesn't have to have HC experience.
-
Problem is all I see is an OC being held back by Wilks and making up for his try-not-to-lost mentality. Wilks is the one to decide to punt the ball on 4th and 1 in the opponent’s territory.
-
If we are gonna give up picks I’d much rather them trade up for a QB. A good HC can make a good team out of 2nd and 3rd round picks. All eyes on NYC right now.
-
I think a team can unofficially hire a HC. Because I remember Shanahan being announced for the 49ers job before the Falcons played in the Super Bowl. Also the commentators kept bringing it up during the game.
-
No. We had an interview scheduled for McDaniels that we cancelled.
-
I don’t agree with that but whatever. Hiring Wilks because he has past coaching experience is not smart. If Tepper wants to win in this league today he hires an OC regardless how these games turned out. Including Kefka. I’d take him over Wilks in a heartbeat. I wasn’t discouraged of Kefka because of how the offense played against one of the best defenses in the NFL. Giants were very limited. I look at the entire season and what he did with a very bad offense. Nah, Kafka should still be in the running and saying he shouldn’t because of yesterday is such a knee jerk reaction.
-
So instead of taking a chance with Kefka we hire a coach from the same tree as McDermott and watch as offensive HC walks all over Wilks. Kafka may not be the answer but neither is Wilks. Defensive HC do not succeed in the modern NFL. This Bills vs Bengals game is proof of that.

Already seeing the FireMcDermott hashtags on twitter. This team has too much talent for this to keep happening year after year. Window is going to close eventually.
-
Guess I haven’t been as beaten down yet. 9-8. I do not like.
-
The teams playing are not my teams so I am not obligated to watch the game. If a team goes down by 14 I turn it off and go do something else.
-
Fastest I’ve ever turned a game off. Why has the playoffs been so bad this year?

Who I trust about as far as I can throw her.

Harbaughs not coming here. He already announced he is going back to Michigan. Plus Panthers have shown little interest in him. His camp contacted the Panthers not the other way around.

Go on record now before the hire is made Re: Sean Payton

Thing is those red lines are usually false and most people never actually follow them. -

If people react that way they need to take a breath. Step away from being a fan and just go do something else. I never cared about who was the coach until Rivera. Honestly I think people, including myself, area bit to involved and care a bit too much about someone like a HC. As long as they win they could be coached by whoever or whatever, imo. -

That's fine. I will continue to be a Panthers fan. I hold no strong feelings for Payton either way.. -

Been a Panthers fan for 25 years. Not gonna change or not be a fan because of a coach. Just sounds petty. -
LoL.
-
Not gonna argue with someone who brings race into it. Not gonna have a discussion with a person like that. Have a good night.

Reich just feels like an offensive Rivera. That would be such a “blah” hiring. I believe that if Reich or Wilks get hiring it will be 3 year contract with expectation to win immediately. I don’t expect either coach to stick around long unless the have tremendous success.
