What's the likelihood he stays? Crappy owners have a lousy track record of being able to hold onto premier talent...look no further than the New Orleans Hornets (Pelicans). #4 pick Chris Paul, left. #1 pick Anthony Davis, gone. #1 pick Zion Williamson, sure sounds like he's got one foot out the door. Why? Because ownership sucks and these players can see there is no path toward consistent success for the organization (much less a championship). If the key operating hierarchy within the Bobcats remains Mike Jordan > Mitch Kupchak (age 67) > James Jordan > Buzz Peterson... ...LaMelo Ball will leave.

Does it? The team has consistently lost money on an operating basis. Ever notice that MJ & Co never provide any disclosure on who his local partners are and/or that they can't attract any local investors? That's because there aren't any. There used to be a bunch...McColl, Sabates, Beck, Schwab, etc...but all tired tired of writing checks every year to cover operating losses and gradually their stakes were nearly worthless and MJ owned 97% when he recently sold an undisclosed stake to the 2 hedgies from NYC --- nobody in Charlotte is interested. Compare & contrast that with what the owners of the Milwaukee Bucks have done: https://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2015/01/29/milwaukee-bucks-owners-have-raised-nearly-118.html Scroll down in that article and they list 17 different partner-investors the vast majority of whom are local, and all of whom are successful and know a good partner when they see one!

Absolutely. Bought the boat cheap and then caught the tide that lifted all boats...his boat has definitely increased in value. On paper, yes. From a cash flow perspective, definitely not. For him the Bobcats have been the same as a house in a Dilworth. A lot of folks bought houses right in Dilworth...and while the area has exploded and home values have skyrocketed, the longer-term homeowners have only written checks to maintain the home, and pay the mortgage, etc... ...until they sell their gains are only on paper. MJ first invested 15 years ago and the team has been a consistent money-loser over the course over that time-frame. He may have actually been able to deposit some cash in his personal account with the partial sale of the team to the 2 NYC hedgies but that's the only material cash in-flows he's seen since 2006.

It's like 8-9 teams, right? In the last 30 years only 3 teams have won more than 2 Super Bowls and they are: Patriots (6), Cowboys (3), Broncos (3). In that same time frame 5 other teams have won 2 Super Bowl titles and they are: Packers (2), Steelers (2), Giants(2*), Buc's (2), Ravens (2). The 30 games are rounded out with 8 teams who won a solo title and they are: Eagles, Redskins, Seahawks, Rams, Saints, 49ers, Chiefs, Colts. *Giants would have 3 if the time-frame were expanded to 31-years. Two (2) seems like pretty goof company to me...

It's like 8-9 teams, right? Not sure but it's certainly not something to sneeze at!!
-
Certainly not as a result of anything MJ has done... ...he lucked into a broken down yet barely sea-worthy boat just before the tide came in. It would be interesting to know how much of the team he sold to the 2 hedgies from NYC and what price they paid. Prior to their arrival he was seriously underwater...

How many teams have won 2 or more Super Bowls in last 30 years?
-
The Packers compete year in and year out. They have a total of four losing seasons since we entered the league. We have a total of seven winning seasons in that same timeframe. I wouldn't say they're the absolute gold standard either, but they're certainly one of the better ran teams in the league. Since 1995 (26 seasons): Packers = 19 playoffs appearances, 38 playoff games, 21 playoff game wins, 2 Super Bowl titles. Panthers = 8 playoff appearances, 17 playoff games, 9 playoff game wins, 0 Super Bowl titles.

Packers "stockholders" are that in name only...they do not, nor have they ever shared in any "profits". In fact, the franchise operates under a not-for-profit corporate structure and is the only NFL for which annual financial statements/information is available to the general public... ...some starter reading here if you're interested: https://shareholder.broadridge.com/pdf/gbp/green-bay-packers-2020-annual-report.pdf
-
Absolutely. Make him play for the Packers, or retire... ...his choice.
-
How'd that work out for him? Their playoff streak didn't end with his departure, they went back to the Finals, again. The last 2 seasons have been dominated by injuries that no team could overcome but rest assured, they'll be back. So let's cut to the chase... ...do you believe Mike Jordan is a good owner? Do you believe Mike Jordan can lead this franchise to consistent success? If so, why & how?
-
Great example of excellent ownership. Playoffs 7-of-last-8 seasons and a 9-6 winning playoff-series record in that time frame. By comparison your Bobcats led by Mike Jordan have made the playoffs 3 times in 15 years under his control, and have an 0-3 series record. Very few teams will be consistent title contenders but regularly making the playoffs is a legit goal -- MJ has failed miserably.
-
Ya think maybe those brilliant owners had something to do with convincing him to stick around?
-
In a place like Charlotte, yes 110%. Ditto Milwaukee, etc... The "super team" strategy is legit (to the detriment of the NBA) but it's by no means the only path to a championship. In markets like ours (or Milwaukee) there is no path to a championship in the absence of superior ownership -- and Jordan ain't that...in fact, he's the opposite.

Actually they are the embodiment of "The Rule". The Rule: Teams with lousy ownership never thrive. Golden State Warriors: Laughingstock of NBA, make playoffs 5 times in 33 years > NEW OWNER in 2010 > 5-Finals and 3 World Championships since. LA Lakers: Under leadership of Dr. Jerry Buss made the playoffs 32-of-34 years > NEW OWNER in 2013 > miss playoffs 6 straight seasons. NY Knicks: Make the playoffs 14 straight seasons > NEW OWNER in 1999 > miss playoffs 13 of 16 seasons. [Note: Dolan and Jordan are in class of their own, completely inept.] Milwaukee Bucks: Six 1st-round playoff exits in 15 seasons > NEW OWNERS in 2014 > 5-straight playoffs appearances, 7-4 playoffs series winning record, 2021 World Champions. I could go on but think the point has been made... ...but just in case you missed it... ...the Charlotte Bobcats will never have meaningful success until there is a change in ownership. The good news is a couple of smart guys from New York are now "partners" with MJ and I have a hunch that at some point they will (a) either convince him to go away and let them manage the shared asset, or (b) straightway wrest control from him. Will be interesting to watch...
-
Apparently it does...the Milwaukee Bucks are World Champions. Actually I think they won in spite of current ownership. What I know for a fact is under the leadership of Dr. Jerry Buss the team made the playoffs 32-of-34 years... ...upon his death ownership was ceded to his inept children and they immediately missed the playoffs 6 straight seasons. NOTE: The current Bobcats GM was the Lakers GM in that time period.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Possibly Ball...no chance on the other 2. Not with anyone playing for the Bobcats. He played over 35 minutes...no excuses. Focus here Jimmy --- winning starts within the Office of the Owner... ...there is zero chance Mike Jordan will ever be able to manage the business to consistently compete with Wes Edens and Marc Lasry over time --- Mike simply is not qualified.

I quoted you. -
Complete BS. They closed out ATL in the Eastern Conference Finals with the big boy on the bench.. The only Bobcats player who might crack the starting lineup in Milwaukee is Ball...nobody else would ever make it off the bench.

You have no idea what your talking about. In fact, Tepper made his most serious coin when the world was melting down and there was real risk the entire banking system would fail --- while everyone else was running for the exits Tepper was buying Bank of America below $3 and Citigroup preferred at under $1... ...there's a real case to be made that Bank of America survived because of Tepper's implicit endorsement (Warren Buffet has a similar effect in certain situations) and the stock turned when news leaked into the marketplace about the monstrous stake in BAC he had taken --- lots of folks then followed his lead BAC shares started moving up. There's a reason those big brass balls hang on the wall behind his desk... -

You claim everyone has an opinion. Yet your first sentence kinda goes against that. But yeah, ain't it a great country? That's what is known as a fact --- not open for debate. -

Sam is a seasoned NFL veteran, period. In game #6 this season he will have already played for an amount of time equal to the length of the average NFL career. Stop with the excuses....and FYI, you only make him look worse by suggesting "he's still a rookie" after he's already played 3 full NFL seasons --- calls his intellect into question. He's already been given a "fresh start" and a "fair chance" by the only people who matter -- Tepper & Rhule. (and "given" is the operative term, handed to him on a silver platter! NO competition for Sam and his fragile psyche!!) In the meantime "we" don't owe him anything. "We" can hope for the best for him while simultaneously having and expressing an opinion about how he may or may-not perform...including, but not limited to, "bashing him". America is a great place, free country it is... -

I've seen nothing to indicate Tepper is putting funds of any consequence into this deal... ...the developer, Crosland Southeast, is the one who has their nuts on the line with this deal. This a complete nonsense. Tepper doesn't own any developable land "near Bank of America" or anywhere else in uptown... ...there's nothing to "negotiate" on.
