I don't advise going that route but these contracts do have provisions that directly address quitting. If a player is unhappy and wants to quit to go to work in another industry that option is available to him...but obviously he will no longer be paid as per the terms of the contract.

There is absolutely nothing "sudden" or "amateurish" going on here...it's simply a long-term negotiation that hasn't culminated in a deal...and that's OK, especially from the Panthers perspective.
