Getting rid of Rhule is the first step in fixing those two factors and getting a real playoff team.

The only reason not to fire Rhule is money. Pure and simple.

Yeah, pride may be it. Panthers have never had a four year losing streak until David Tepper. Panthers have never had a coach with a worse record after two seasons than Matt Rhule. Panthers have never retained a coach after a season with 5 wins or less until Matt Rhule. Panthers performance under Dave Tepper these last four years has been worse than mediocre. Hopefully, Dave comes to terms with Matt Rhule's substandard performance and does the right thing. -

I love meatballs just as much as the next guy, but hiring a flimflam man as an NFL HC is where I drawn the line. -
Well, unless I missed something, it appears that everyone who started today employed as an NFL HC is still employed.

Chances of a happy ending for Panthers fans seem to be dwindling. Tepper may turn out to be the Grinch who stole Christmas. Starting to make a list of all the things I'll be able to do in 2022 with my free time on Sundays. -

Yeah, it is looking increasingly likely Tepper is keeping the Rhule for 2022. However, there is still a small glimmer of hope (as long as Dave doesn't provide a public statement in support of Matt). Tepper may have simply decided any announcement about Matt's future could cause disruptions within the organization he'd rather avoid. Tepper may simply be biding his time till this season is completed before dropping the axe on Rhule. With that said, chances are increasingly likely Rhule gets a third year despite his 1000 percent invisible team building progress. -

It would be poetic justice if Dave Tepper ends up praising Matt Rhule just before he fires him. -

Matt Rhule is simply out of his depth. We don't need a cheerleader, we need a HC. John Fox would have this team in the playoffs by his second season. -

Matt Rhule's ineptness is sucking more life out of the Panthers with every additional day he is in charge. Matt has been a horrible judge of talent, free agency, draft strategy, trade strategy, practice strategy, and game day management. He compares himself to music legend Jay-Z, while apologizing that his own accomplishments remain invisible to everyone other than himself, then asks for a full 7 years to prove it. No previous Panthers coach has started as badly as Matt Rhule and none of them has been retained after having a season as bad as Rhule's current season (or last for that matter). The amount of money Matt Rhule is owed by Dave Tepper is miniscule in comparison to what the organization stands to lose by keeping Matt as their coach. Panthers have a roster cap over 20 times Rhule's annual salary. The average player is only in the NFL around three years. There are a lot of talented Panthers players watching their careers waste away while Rhule tries to figure out how to do his job. Let me ask you a question: If you had 15,000 dollars and could get rid of a problem employee who was destroying your business and driving customers away for 25-50 dollars, would you do it? Of course you would. Well that is the decision Tepper faces right now. -

Jerry Richardson is almost a pauper in comparison to Dave Tepper. Yet, JR fired Dom Capers as HC after signing the guy to a ten year contract. If JR was willing to fire his first HC w/a ten year contract, there is no rational defense to be made for Dave hanging on to Matt Rhule, the worst HC in Panthers history. Matt Rhule is sucking the life out of the Panthers franchise. Dave Tepper refusing to cut his losses would be insanely stupid. -

Tepper is estimated to be worth 15-16 billion today. That ten billion figure was what Tepper was worth when he purchased the Panthers. -

Dave Tepper routinely makes more/loses more money in a day than what the remaining 5 years on Rhules' contract would cost him. Chances are he could write most of Matt's contract off as a business loss. The only thing holding back Dave Tepper from firing Rhule at this point is either his pride or Dave is actually buying into Matt's "It's 1000 percent happening, but invisible to everyone but me" speech. Matt is successfully(so far) running a variation of the emperor has no clothes scam.- 49 replies

@CarolinaPanthers is that guy who can never read a room.

Rhule made a simple mistake and gave away a high second round draft pick for the worst starting QB in football. It happens. I'm sure he won't do something nearly as boneheaded in his third year as Panthers Head Coach. Or will he?

Tepper should throw $5-10M at Dante Scarnecchia

One question: In your scenario, is Matt Rhule still employed by the Carolina Panthers? If the answer is "yes" count me out. -
Ron Rivera never had a season as bad as Rhule's until his last season. John Fox never had a season as bad as Rhule's until his last season. George Seifert never had a season as bad as Rhule's until his last season. Dom Capers never had a season as bad as Rhule's until his last season. In the franchise's entire existence, NO Head Coach has produced a season as bad as Matt Rhule's and remained the Panthers Head Coach. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/car/index.htm

What if Rhule hires NFL Coordinators and positions coaches?

Only difference between Rhule and Jay-Z? Jay-Z is clearly talented.

The Panthers would be in a much better situation today if Matt had hired experienced NFL coordinators/coaches to help guide him year one. But that train has already left the station. An hour ago, Rhule told the world his plan is working. "1000 percent working." We just can't see it. So why would Matt bring in outsiders? He wouldn't. Not without an intervention by Dave Tepper. As an owner, I don't want to have to tell my HC how to do his job. If that ever happened, I'd have to wonder: Is Matt Rhule really up to the job I hired him to do?
