Insert Carr here.
-
Nothing, Panthers need to continue to draft QBs until they find the right one. We've now got the coaches capable of developing rookie QBs. We should take advantage of it.
-
Carr is at an entirely different level than any of the QBs that have played for the Panthers during the last 5 years. He isn't top five, but given a decent defense he is in the top 10-12 range.
-
If the Panthers were holding the first pick in this year's draft, I'm almost certain they'd be picking a QB. Unfortunately, they're sitting at 9 and moving up to #1 would likely cost more draft capital than a team with so many needs can afford to give up.
-
This is almost assuredly the discussion Reich's coaches and Tepper are having at the moment.
-
Tepper's history suggests to me that he'll make a run at Carr and draft a QB either this year or next. He didn't sign all these high dollar coaches to nursemaid a rookie QB without having a capable vet on the team.

Yep, Raiders owner, Mark Davis, is a poor man trying to win at a rich man's game. He is a dunderhead in comparison to his father. Of all the dumb moves Mark has made over the years, hiring McDaniels is the dumbest. Now he can't afford to fire guy, so Carr had to go. McDaniels will destroy the Raiders just like he destroyed the Broncos.

This might be one of the better arguments for Panthers signing Carr and saving their draft picks.

I wasn't too impressed with Steichen's play calling
NanuqoftheNorth replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Philly's offense was a juggernaut in the first half and had KC on the ropes. The turnover returned for a TD kept KC in the game. Second half, Chiefs came out of the locker room determined to impose their will on the Eagles. They simply refused to go down without a fight. The tale of two halves. -
Good Article on potential OC target Brian Johnson
NanuqoftheNorth replied to Mills's topic in Carolina Panthers
As a casual observer, I'd say that Andy Reid's reputation casts a long shadow over Eric Bienemy. If Eric ever wants to be seriously considered for a head coach position, he would take a chance and move to another team as their OC. After a season or two there would be little doubt as to Eric's talent. -
"Life happens while you're busy making other plans." Panthers might want to revise their schedule asap.

Quarterbacks win championships
NanuqoftheNorth replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
True. That last holding call changed what might have been one of the best Super Bowls into a tainted/also ran championship game. If the penalty against Bradberry never happens, the possible outcomes are endless. As it turned out, that call made it almost impossible for the Eagles to win. A less competent coach, with a less well coached group of players, could have mis-managed the clock, giving the Eagles another chance to score. But come on, this was Andy Reid and that wasn't about to happen. -
The entire country is moving that way, some states are just getting there faster than others.
-
True. However, hardly anyone, other than maybe Wilson, had any expectations that he would be the starting QB in Seattle that year. Carr is in a unique situation of being able to choose his team a month prior to any other free agent QB. I suspect he isn't interested in playing second fiddle to a rookie either. The teams that will likely be most interested in his services will be out of the running for the top QB prospects in the draft. Having said that, there could be another rookie QB like Wilson in the third round hoping to surprise his NFL team and knock Derek off his perch. Time will tell, but I doubt the Panthers will be involved.

Quarterbacks win championships
NanuqoftheNorth replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
"Great quarterbacks win championships" - Dan Marino has now entered the conversation https://www.nbcsports.com/football/nfl/best-qbs-never-win-super-bowl-0#:~:text=Marino played in one Super, league six times in completions. -
Haha, smart man! Not sure we could say the same for Sam. He is a nice guy though.
-
Whoever commits to Carr is likely going to be a team that has determined that they have no chance at getting one of the better QBs in this draft; Saints, Jets, Patriots, Commanders, Steelers, Bucs all seem to be a more likely landing spot for Carr than Carolina.
-
Raiders have been a dumpster fire for two decades, with one of their few bright spots during that time being Derek Carr. Having said that, I'd have mixed feelings about him coming to Carolina. Derek isn't ready to play second fiddle or sign a short term contract. He is likely looking for what he's never had with the Raiders organization, a stable coaching staff and a top ten defense. The Panthers look like they can offer Carr all that this coming season. I just don't know if Reich or Tepper are prepared to pass up an opportunity to draft the team's next franchise QB and hand the reign's over to Carr for the next several years.

We hear the same things all the time about Sam, "he is a nice guy", "good teammate", "only 25 years old". Where are comments about Sam standing tall in the pocket, putting the team on his back, student of the game, and wily vet leading comebacks? Instead we have people saying Sam Darnold isn't a lost cause. There's still hope to save him, still a chance to teach him how to read defenses and break him of his bad habits. Seriously, is this a vet or a rookie we're talking about? I'm not sure I'd want Sam Darnold anywhere near my prized rookie QB.

Chad Henne

Meh, while technically a vet, Darnold doesn't seem to possess the wisdom nor the experience I'd like to see in a viable backup. Darnold strikes me more as someone that would be taking advice from a decent rookie QB halfway through the season. At that point what good is Sam Darnold to the team?
-
I'd be shocked if the Panthers don't bring in a vet and draft a QB this year while they try and coach up Corral as plan C. Also, I'd be somewhat surprised if anyone in the building views Darnold as an adequate answer for our vet QB.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not into cannibalism, even if it is brisket.

Matt Corral has overcome a lot of negativity, doubters and haters along the way to make it to the NFL. He wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth. I have no idea whether he can make it at this level, but he deserves a legitimate chance to prove his abilities. If Reich affords him a chance, I wouldn't bet against Matt's chances.
