Why wouldn't we be openly cooperating with all nations in an effort to create a viable vaccine?

It is times like these, when every member of a society needs to do their part for the greater good, that narcissists like Amber Lynn Gilles get totally exposed.

Sample size of 4. Why would anyone hoping to be taken seriously include this "study"?

In the age of COVID, we all have the potential to unknowingly become an uncontrolled biological weapon set loose on general society. Let's try and behave like responsible members of society, good citizens: Frequently wash your hands, social distance whenever possible and wear a mask for the benefit of others. Why is any of this even debatable at this point?

Anecdotal Observation: I can't recall a day when I've been out in public recently where there hasn't been at least one or more people sneezing without covering their mouths.

The CNN International article is based on information from Lancet and the European CDC. Essentially for herd immunity to be achieved 60% of the population would need to be exposed to the virus. https://edition.cnn.com/2020/07/06/health/spain-coronavirus-antibody-study-lancet-intl/index.html?utm_medium=social&utm_content=2020-07-06T10%3A54%3A04&utm_source=twCNNi&utm_term=link

Well, if this is study is accurate, the chances of obtaining herd immunity without a vaccine just went out the window. Mask up!

Yeah, I strongly suspect the nation's shortage of masks earlier this year drove the government's false narrative that masks wouldn't help the general public to stay safe from COVID. Later the CDC "revised" their position on mask usage for the general public. It might only be a coincidence, but that official change in policy coincided with a greater availability of masks. But what if government health officials had strongly recommended the use of masks from the outset? What sort of general panic and chaos would it have caused when there weren't enough masks to go around? Short of government being proactive/better prepared for an eventual pandemic, I'm not sure what else health officials could have done when COVID first appeared in the US. Bottom line: Government Officials were caught flat footed when the pandemic arrived, so in an attempt to prevent widespread public panic they lied and claimed masks were not helpful. You'd think they'd be better at lying by now, considering how often they do it.

Florida Governor: Who could have possibly predicted this sort of thing would happen once restrictions were lifted? Science.

Front line workers are the only thing preventing our economy from collapsing. They are the ones being exposed to a general public that too often fails to take the most basic of precautions; like wearing a mask, cleaning their hands or distancing themselves appropriately. All these executives at the top could disappear tomorrow and the public wouldn't notice for weeks, if ever, but if the front line workers fail to show up for work tomorrow everything would immediately come to a screeching halt.

At this point, why would anyone believe status reports coming from Florida state government? They were exposed months ago for pressuring their statisticians to fudge/minimize the number of COVID cases. Chances are the actual numbers are worse than those being reported.

Yeah, lots of numbers being tossed out there, but the vast majority of Americans have yet to be tested and likely never will be so we may never know the true extent of the virus. Even with a resurgence this Fall and Winter, it is quite possible COVID-19 runs its course before a vaccine is widely available.

Up to 80% of people with COVID19 are asymptomatic? and Read more here: https://time.com/5842669/coronavirus-asymptomatic-transmission/

High risk groups, healthcare workers, elderly, front line workers and the like. The human guinea pigs for potential vaccines being tested right now number in the thousands. So whatever scientists eventually come up with will likely prove to be significantly safer than going without, especially for high risk individuals. Of course herd immunity is the ultimate objective, so the quicker people are vaccinated the quicker society can get back to some semblance of normalcy without waiting for coronavirus to spread to everyone naturally. Should be interesting as flu season returns this Autumn. Second wave might be worse than the first, especially if we have a vaccination available that half the population refuses to take advantage of.
