The winning NFL template has been out there for the last two decades. Well coached organization that doesn't dedicate too much cap to any one player, allows for a well balanced team capable of winning championships. More often than not, has more draft picks than they were originally allotted. The Herschel Walker/Ricky Williams approach to football is a recipe for disaster.

Good thing we didn't decide to hire our next GM from that organization... Oh, wait, never mind.

Watching the Seahawks here in Seattle on the decline ever since Wilson got paid. Team can no longer afford to surround him with the talent he once had in large part due to the record setting contract he signed a few years ago. Now Wilson is complaining about a lack of talent around him. Team has given up multiple high round draft picks to "win now". Does Wilson even see the irony? Doubt it.

Tom Brady could have been the top paid player in the NFL for the last two decades if he chose to be. Instead, Tom chose a different strategy, because he wanted to win championships over "getting paid". Taking on another team's massive QB contract and giving up multiple high draft picks in the process will likely prevent the Panthers from fielding a competitive roster.

Sacrificing Peter to pay Paul isn't the answer. Never has been. Many fans here have spent the last decade complaining that Cam didn't have decent O line and lacked weapons to work with. Panthers are in the bottom half of the league when it comes to on field talent. With cap limitations and a lack of draft picks where is all the talent needed to support Watson coming from? Look no further than the Houston Texans to see what a Watson led future for the Panthers has in store.

You'd think a fanbase who witnessed only 3 winning seasons out of 9 with their last franchise QB would better appreciate that football is still a team sport.

A millionaire player vs a billionaire owner. Not to say this is the case, however, if the owner is truly stubborn and refuses to budge they can just outwait Watson. He's gonna run out of money long before the owner does.
-
Another aspect of this situation to keep in mind is that all the owners have a vested interest in the outcome of this standoff. As it is, owners still call the tune players dance to when it comes to contracts. The owner/player dynamic might significantly change if Watson comes out of this smelling like a rose.
-
Anything is possible at this point, but it is clear the owner of the Texan's is going to do whatever he choses to do regardless of Watson's opinion or the team's best interests. I'm old enough to remember when Al Davis kept Marcus Allen (one of the greatest talents of his day) on the bench for an entire season. Owners/Billionaires can be rather obstinate when they choose to be.
-
Haha, wouldn't surprise me at all. Watch the billionaire team owner start a go fund me as well. Then, watch as a bunch of minimum wage workers donate their hard earned dollars to support their favorite 1%er.
-
While it's true that the Texans have painted themselves into a corner, the team owner may be willing to deal with the fallout of holding Watson to his contract. Time is the enemy of all NFL players. DW needs to play to get paid.

The Seahawks were at their best when they had The Legion of Boom and an effective running attack. Once Wilson got paid those two areas of Seattle's game suffered. Though they've been competitive every year since then, the Seahawks are no longer the dominant team they once were. Bringing Wilson to Carolina would be a significant upgrade, but at what cost? A decent QB on a rookie contract is the way to go. It would allow the Panthers to build a strong supporting cast of players. We don't need another team's problems and make no mistake, Wilson wanting a say in personnel IS a Big Problem. Bottom line: Rhule won't be buying what Wilson is selling.

Washington Football Team Ownership change?
NanuqoftheNorth replied to Harbingers's topic in Carolina Panthers
Rumor has it that Bezos will be the first owner to use drones as players in lieu of humans. -
If the Panthers were like KC and only needed a franchise QB to position themselves for a Super Bowl run the Watson trade might make sense. However, Panthers have many holes to fill and are in the bottom half of the league when it comes to talent. As long as the NFL remains a team sport, the best QB in the league isn't near enough to win championships.

Gamestop stock situation - anyone else in on this?

Good advice for a volatile stock market like today's... Buy when their is blood in the streets --Warren Buffet -

Strongest possible defense of the Bridgewater signing: Given near ideal conditions, Teddy isn't terrible.
-
Well managed/coached teams win Super Bowls. Those sort of teams aren't typically drafting in the top 10.
-
As I recall the new management indicated last year that they were building with the long view in mind, not a quick fix. So, I'd be satisfied with the Panthers building a robust O line and upgrading the DBs/backfield for this coming season. That alone would go a long way towards creating the conditions in which a young QB could thrive.

PFT: Seahawks want three #1 as starting point for Wilson trade.
NanuqoftheNorth replied to SCO96's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wilson likely wouldn't want end up with the Panthers for the same reason he is having issues with the Seahawks. Lack of protection/decent Oline. He also has an issue with play calling, but the team recently canned their OC. -
Cam Newton says he “intimidated” Panthers...

What is Cam's endgame here? Can't see these sort of comments improving his NFL prospects or chances of endorsement deals. -
Cam Newton says he “intimidated” Panthers...

I enjoyed Cam while he was here and wish him nothing but the best going forward. However, I don't believe making these sort of statements is helpful for anyone involved. -

Cam was a unique talent, but his style of play shortened his career as most of us knew it would. -

Love CMC, but for a team like the Panthers with numerous other issues, paying him early was a massive mistake. He would have been much more valuable in a trade without his new contract. His production as a player is also much easier to find/replace than that of a franchise QB.
