Here we go!

Clearly PI

Yeah, Chargers keep doubling down on a bad idea. Reminds me of John Fox's decision to go for two twice during the Super Bowl. Just take the easy points.
-
These teams might want to start thinking about kicking some field goals. Last time I checked, 3 points is better than 0 points.
-
For sure, better coached than anyone we have.
-
Man, that was a great catch!
-
Chargers have been chasing the points all night rather than taking what's given to them. Could be up by another 9 points right now.

It is games like this one that reminds me I enjoy watching NFL football, even when my favorite team is down and out. If the Panthers can't get their act together for a few years, I'll weather the storm.

What is Tepper seeing that nobody else here sees?
NanuqoftheNorth replied to mc52beast's topic in Carolina Panthers
There are only so many opportunities to become a head coach of an NFL team. These candidates believe in their own abilities. They aren't turning down a chance at the brass ring because Carolina decided to fire a head coach who was only winning five or six games a season after two years. Candidates aren't blind to the mess Carolina has been under Matt Rhule. Chances are many of these guys have coached against the Panthers and Rhule's college "game plan". They may also be astounded Rhule has lasted as long as he has in Carolina. -

Current estimate of Tepper's wealth: 15-16 billion. -

True, if you could also write that game off as a business expense. Most people can't comprehend how little 50m is to someone like Tepper. Chances are Dave makes more off his investments on any given day than what Matt's 7 year contract is costing him. -

What I've got shows Dave Tepper was highly motivated to beat out other teams to secure the coach he wanted for his franchise. What you have are claims without evidence. -

Ok, I will. Tepper flew to Rhule's house and helped carry in the guy's luggage, then agreed to meet all of Rhule's demands and finally offered the biggest contract ever for a first time NFL coach. That's the guy who doesn't care? Whatever dude. How can you possibly expect to be taken seriously making such unfounded comments? -

We don't know this at all. -

Thank you for pointing this out. Rhule is simply not demonstrating he has a grasp on game day management. Week after week the Panthers are being taken advantage of by opponents that seem better prepared and more familiar with the Panthers tendencies than the Panthers themselves. -

Dave Tepper's not talking AFAIK. Dave could've come out already and given his public vote of confidence for Matt. That hasn't happened. We may find out what Tepper is thinking after week 16 concludes. That'll be when the window of opportunity for interviewing coaching candidates opens. Doesn't make much sense for the Panthers to say anything before that time. -
Pete has done well with the Seahawks, but some may have forgotten he was fired twice as an NFL head coach prior to his time in Seattle. His first time as HC for the Jets only lasted one season. Also Pete had 15 years of experience in the NFL prior to finally getting it right in Seattle. An NFL novice he was not.

The following comments are about Meyer, but could just as easily be about Rhule: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/12/16/urban-meyer-nfl-failure/ And neither is Rhule.
-
True. Why the 10% "Keep Matt for a third year" crowd doesn't recognize this puzzling.
-
There's no profit in keeping a coach once you realize he's not up to the task at hand. Your move Mr. Tepper.
