While this is true, it really isn't even about Sam anymore. Rhule is the puppet master of disaster.

You know this is happening. Not to mention several more unwise contracts like Robbie Anderson's.

This is why Rhule needs to go. If Tepper keeps Matt around for 2022, he is going to mortgage this team's future in order to save his job setting this franchise back even further. The Sam Darnold trade is gonna pale in comparison.

After looking over Rhule's body of work here in Carolina, I'm not sure what Tepper could be seeing that jumps out and says, yeah Matt's really done well with ________, he deserves a third year.

Maybe Gilmore mistakenly told the coaches that they should try and practice red zone scoring/two minute drills. He should be forgiven for not knowing the last guy that did that was sent packing to Denver.

Excellent observation. If true, it is not a good look, but it is not nefarious either.

Guessing Gilmore may have tried to drop some NFL knowledge on these coaches. Seems like the quickest way to end up sidelined when Matt Rhule is your coach. Poor play doesn't seem to do it.

If Rhule demonstrated anything close to competence when it came to gameday planning and leadership, I could easily overlook his free agency blunders, draft day disappointments and inexplicable player contracts. Unfortunately, Matt Rhule has demonstrated incompetence in every facet of his job responsibilities. There is simply no objective way to view giving Matt a third year as Panthers HC as anything other than a huge mistake.

It feels like that time (some point) isn't too far away.
