Carolina Panthers Biggest Draft Busts(Top 3 Rounds)
Stingray3030 replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
It is still a bust if they get derailed by injury....it just means they never made the impact for the price paid. https://www.sportslingo.com/sports-glossary/b/bust/#:~:text=A bust is a player, round of the NFL Draft. -
Carolina Panthers Biggest Draft Busts(Top 3 Rounds)
Stingray3030 replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
The question wasn't if he was any good - it was biggest bust. We traded a fortune to get him, he never performed that well and was out of the league in less than 3 years. For a first round pick, 19th overall that is horrendous. Not to mention his trade caused a 3-yr domino of bad trades out of the first round for Brown and Clausen - so he gets more guilt for causing the train wreck - like the last car in a pileup. He is well regarded as the biggest draft day blunder in franchise history by many sites. -
Carolina Panthers Biggest Draft Busts(Top 3 Rounds)

I believe a pretty strong case can be made for Biakabutuka, Otah, and Clausen based on cost vs results....honorable mention for Rashard Anderson -
Carolina Panthers Training Camp - Wednesday Thread

Hands down favorite pizza as a kid - we had one in Rock Hill right around the corner. Best part was the little arcade inside with the Star Wars X-wing game! -
Fully agree - the pick yesterday was not all him but very exciting - and he had a few nice covers during the 7-on-7 and 11-on-11. The CB group seemed to have alot of confidence which I think is Horn and Bouye created beside Donte.

I like Devonte and wish we could keep him, but he is an excellent backup PG - that is all. He is not a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd scorer caliber player - he was a very good 3-pt shooter not a good scorer. He is solid with the ball running a second unit - and we got a mid-to-late 1st round pick for him? That is very good value for a borderline-starter caliber player. No way is he worth Jaxson Hayes and a 2nd RDer - especially with Hayes' recent arrest - not to mention we just drafted Kai and JT beside Carey and Richards A few other things we have to remember - Devonte is 26-yr old so he is pretty much at his ceiling which is a 38% FG shooter - not great. And the Pelicans are not that good - Zion-Ingram-Val are not going to carry this team very far - especially in the West. This pick is VERY likely to be somewhere in the 17-22 range which is very good for a nearly 27-yr old backup PG looking for a contract. We are building a team here folks - it takes a few years and picking up the 22nd overall pick next year while avoiding $12M/yr gives us tremendous flexibility to draft and sign another big FA in the near future. This looks like a huge win for us IMO.

Talk to me how you are feeling about the Hornets now.

Could be - but the fact that suspensions significantly affected Monk's development and haven't happened to Bouknight yet still makes it more likely not to happen. -

That is a pretty apples to oranges comparison to make - Monk was only a jump shooter coming out not really a "scorer" or starting caliber SG. He had 1 year at Kentucky with alot of "potential" but he wasn't ready to start. Bouknight is an all-around proven SG and scorer instead of just a streaky shooter. He is much further along than Monk was at the draft....and hopefully mature enough not to smoke and get suspended every year. -

I was happy with the 2 guys we picked - for sure the 1st round trade value will depend on the future first pick but as it stands I am pretty happy with Kai Jones' upside. And the second round trade I absolutely love. Those put them in a much stronger position in terms of signing free agents like Bis, Zeller, Graham, Rosier also if these rookies are solid. Most of all I am happy our first pick is a legit scorer - the Hornets have drafted "potential" scorers for years so it is nice get a strong scorer and 2 athletic guys that can run with Melo to build around him. -

Let the over-reactions BEGIN! -
Of course there is - easily worth a 6th or 7th round pick or more to the right team who saw something the last few years. Also moving on doesn't necessarily mean trade - these guys don't just assume all is well and then react after they get cut. Good agents plan for weeks or months just in case if they see concerns or players getting acquired. If the team has given indication he may be released they would already be on the phone and have solid leads. Player moves get negotiated for guys all year long - even the "untouchable" guys.....agents and GM's are constantly working on it.
-
My point wasn't that he is giving up - that is actually completely missing my point. I am saying he might not be giving up he might be moving on - aka going through the motions while his agent finalizes a move. He isn't going to show anyone anything in these OTA's....any team that is going to sign an underperforming 4th year TE with 3 years of film isn't going to see something in an OTA that makes them go after him. The trade won't be for much either way
-
I totally get your comment but the reality is people in his situation typically have one of 2 reactions - step up and give it all to compete for THIS job, or start focusing effort on your exit strategy. The guy saw us sign his replacement in free agency and then draft another TE/FB hybrid in the 3rd round - it appears he is moving on based on the observations. I wouldn't necessarily consider it work ethic or attitude - maybe just finishing up one job while focusing on preparing for the next....not saying it is respectable but might not be a sign of long term character
-
From a Madden perspective that is a great idea - the game basically just takes skills and assumes the guy can play the position and apply them. In reality I don't know if he knows how to play FS - it is very different than CB. He has the speed no doubt but instinct and development takes time he hasn't spent.....he would need to start 2 years ago.
-
I hate to say it but I don't know that anything outside of a monumental improvement will save Thomas' career with the Panthers at this point. Didn't we sign Dan Arnold to replace him and then sign Tremble as the 2nd TE/FB? With McCaffrey, Anderson, Moore, Moore, Arnold, and Marshall getting 98% of the passes I can't see him making a difference.
-
It has all basically been said, but he needs to be traded from both the business and personal perspective. His professional relationship is already damaged by the comments we know about (internally who knows how much more has been discussed). Even if he stays there is slim to no chance he has the drive to overcome and beat out Darnold. He needs another change where he can move on. From a business side we HAVE to trade him - and likely still eat a large chunk of salary. Any viable picks, players we get in return and money less than 20-mil is a win over cutting. But I agree it is likely after the draft - at this point waiting a few weeks hurts no one and the draft could dramatically change a team's perspective or value of Teddy.

A Look At the Defense (As of 3/18/21)
Stingray3030 replied to SetfreexX's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think there is any chance we go all offense in the draft - makes no sense considering our needs. We still need 2 DB's and a DT or 2 - having bodies in positions doesn't mean we are set. And these guys are all signing 1-2 yr deals. It all depends on the QB choice as everyone else said as well...if it is DeShaun then no way we go all offense. I would hope we get 2 OL, 1-2 DL, 2 DB and a WR or TE - but of course FA isn't over yet. I do like how this defense is forming up though - FINALLY might have a nasty LB core after losing Luke and TD. We might actually be able to stop the run now.
