I would rather get a qb but if it came to this I wouldnt complain. The best olineman in the draft 2 years in a row sits fine with me. Having a top5 maybe top 3 line in the nfl is going to win you a lot of games -
Panthers met with Hooker per report
mrcompletely11 replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
If our plan to fix the qb situation here is to wait and draft hooker in the 2nd then we are dumber than dirt for a multitude of reasons. Having said that we have adults in the room now and they will come up with a better plan then that. Which is why I think Hooker will basically be off our qb board when it comes time to draft -
We absolutely knows what goes into what the "development" of a qb. Sure its film study but more importantly its reps and game experience.
-
Cool. You don't have an example
-
Do you have an example of a team trying to develop 2 qbs at the same time?
-
It has nothing to do with rhule. Other teams dont do this. Why not? Because its not feasible. There are limits on practice time etc. Why in the hell would you split those when your job is on the line? Do you have an example of a team trying to develop 2 qbs at the same time?
-
How? Reps are a premium and it has nothing to do with Rhule. Do you have an example of another team developing 2 guys simultaneously? If teams could do it they would except the resources and time are extremely limited. Why would a team rob peter to pay paul in regards to valuable preseason/practice/game time reps? It doesnt make sense. Thats why people were pissed last august when rhule was splitting premium first team reps. It doesnt work. Name the starter, name the back up and practice accordingly.
-
The practice time, reps and game experience makes this hard.......and risky. Just go all in on one guy if you are trying to develop someone. I cant think of a time when a team actually developed 2 guys. Washington and cousins may count but that was due to injury. Jimmy G and New England is probably a good example. Outside of the starter getting injured I just dont see that as a viable path. Devote 100% of your resources in making your top 10 pick a franchise guy

So why didn’t we even ask?

Panthers met with Hooker per report

The injury is a huge deal. You are basically buying an older used car with ball bearing issues already. Can they be fixed? Probably. Is there a chance the wheel is effed up. Sure potentially. Now add that to his already shaky draft profile and the I say fug that. Let someone else buy that lemon. -
Meh. He is owed 60 million this year and will cost a first round pick and may only play 1 more year. What’s the point?

I think if we were interested we would have jumped in the sweepstakes the second he interviewed with the saints.

Panthers met with Hooker per report

I think ar plays at some point his rookie year but to your point he is younger and not hurt. I will trust the staffs plan when it comes to development I just think drafting a qb with a major injury in the 2nd or 3rd is not where this franchise is especially one with huge question marks coming from a basically one read gimmick system. Hooker is not the answer. You draft him in the 2nd. Sit him for 2023 so essentially 2024 is his rookie year at 27. I mean does that make sense to you? -

Be that as it may are you burning a 2nd on him? I’m not and we already have a developmental qb from the 3rd. Imo he should be off our draft board -

mrcompletely11 replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
For sure but I still will say no team is trotting him out there until late in the season if even then so it’s essentially a redshirt year. That may fit another team’s timetable but it sure as hell doesn’t fit ours. -

mrcompletely11 replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
May be ready for what? 100%? Statements like that are vague for the sake of being vague. A team would absolutely be nuts to roll him out there at the start of the season. ACL are no jokes no matter what hooker says. thats a 9 month minimum injury -

Then he is back on a 4 year deal as most people doubt Hooker will play this season and if it at all its past the halfway point -
isnt Rodgers owed like 60 million next year? Damn that is totally redlining things by trading assets and paying him that for potentially one maybe 2 years
