Getting Crunch Time for the Panthers and Brian Burns
mrcompletely11 replied to 45catfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
julian weighs in on burns today. All in all the situation is pretty bleak and totally mismanaged. Holy fug fat fitterer was horrible at his job cliff notes: best case is to figure out a deal, the tag is going to be expensive in regards to our cap and letting him walk would suck but would be easier to sign free agents and rework other deals -

we wouldnt need to at those numbers. I suspect we tag him, try to trade and/or get a deal done, make him play on the tag if nothing is worked out and then trade him to a contender during the year. I doubt we push this for 2 years but I guess its possible But the bigger point is this franchise completely bungled this situation, basically a text book lesson in what not to do -

The franchise tag is not top dollar. Its 20 million for next season. -

Not sure what you mean about flexibility. We can still resign him under the tag. The tag for 2024 is around 20 million. Not sure for 2025 -

that would be insanely stupid -
mini mahoomes was an all timer as well

should have stayed at 9 I think texans were seriously not sold on young so they stayed to see how the draft played out. I think the bears would have preferred to go to 2 and then back to 9 to get even more capital but I think fitt and co took good care of them all things considered

The dude literally said he didnt play hard because he didnt want to get hurt, Lord knows how many seasons he will take off once he gets his payday. Burns has got to go. Get what you can and move on. This is a rebuild -
He has had elite coaching since high school, he has had elite qb coaches since 8th grade. He went to the biggest football factory in the ncaa with more elite coaching. Why now would he start to work on his mechanics. I just dont see it, if none of the above could fix it and nfl coaches couldnt do it why now would the light go off in his head? Strouds mechanics are absolutely flawless and have been since tosu
-
if houston wanted young they would have young.
-
why would this off season be any different then what hes had since 8th grade. The kid is who he is at this point. The mechanics arent changing
-
his bounce hopping in the pocket is fuging nuts
-
oline to me is far more a need to get fixed then wr, address both but lean heavily into the line
-
slightly off topic and I agree he is tough but that is not sustainable in the least, they have to massively improve this season in protecting him, call it luck or whatever but its amazing he didnt get seriously injured with some of the blind shots he took. I seriously doubt he (or any other qb) can make it through 2 seasons of that
-
ATL had just drafted ridder and smith was comeback player of year. Neither team was picking a qb.
-
And it also took brees 4ish years and a hof coach to really super charge his career. If that has to happen with bryce then we really screwed things up
-
I think his height may have been an issue as he missed a lot of open wr's it seemed like every game and by missed I mean the wr were open and he didnt see them
-
Corley is def a dawg, but he is getting projected from rounds 2-4, snagging him in the 5th would be awesome but I doubt he falls that far. I wouldnt mind loading up on oline and then grabbing him in the 4rth. He is one super aggressive wr from what I have seen.
-
yep, not sure why we rushed to do the trade, why not simply wait until the draft started to see how it was playing out

Let's not go too crazy with OL upgrades

alright after looking at his spotrac details and considering his age and since we are def not winning next season, the best way to approach TM is to simply let him play out his existing contract this season and bite the bullet on the 29 million. The dead cap goes to 12 in 25 so thats reasonable. He is just getting too expensive for this franchise to plan on especially at his age. He probably would want an ext but it wouldnt be wise for us to do that. Restructuring his deal just kicks the can down the road and at some point we are going to need cap room to fill out the roster but it shouldnt be this year -
Trade down at 33 if price is right. Too many holes and not enough picks
