And its not like we were the browns trying to find a qb, we fuging had a generational one on the fuging roster.

I agree 100%. If he looks the part get a deal done. There should be goodwill from both camps as to not do something like Dak and wanting the moon. One good season where everything clicks for both sides should make it easy to do a semi team friendly 5 year ext. I think the threshold for such a deal would be making the playoffs. And damn who knows what happens if he actually wins a game.
-
Because if he plays well he is a free agent and we probably would have to franchise him. A la moton. Then once we franchise he is going to want a market deal which is going to be substantial once the cap moves up. Picking up the option only puts us on the hook for 18ish for the last year. So that gives us two years to figure things out. Gives us breathing room per se. What if he shows improvement but still not there yet. Say 8 wins and improves on all his career numbers. With no 5th year option he is going to want a 5 year deal or just play on the franchise tag. We cannot invest 5 years on one average/above avg year. The 5th option gives us an additional year on a "cheap" deal to evaluate

Where did you get that from? All I am saying is that its stupid to take one "stat" and try and apply it as if it makes him a failure when there is just so much more that is going on with it as documented on here. The dude was getting beat up every game so how in the hell is he supposed to know what a clean pocket is when he is getting pressured more than any other qb? And yes I have gone back and watched a lot of youtube on him since the trade. He does have the tendency to make a wtf throw into double coverage but I think we can coach that out of him to at least a check down to cmac. Again I will gladly take Sam, our 8th pick over the last 3 qbs. I think mac has to go to the exact right situation. If its sanfran then so be it. I think Lance's inexperience is way too much to overcome and I honestly dont know what to think about fields. He is a physical marvel but can he process the game at NFL speeds?
-
For sure. Plus he is in year 3 of a dire situation where he has been getting pummeled for 3 seasons. Just prison raped so of course he is going to be gun shy and who the hell knows what "clean pocket" even is in regards to the jets. He was also the most pressured qb last season and he had the fewest cleanest pockets in the nfl. There are a ton of ways to debate that "stat". I wouldnt hang my hat on that or have it be the end all in defining Sam. I have said since the the trade, there are just too many negative factors that were going against him in NY. Probably the biggest one to me is that they simply rolled him out there as a 20 year old and then canned that coach and had to learn a new system on a horrible franchise. He didnt stand a chance. Hell nobody would in that situation. If his biggest negative is simply the turnovers then I would take him over the the qbs not named Trevor or Wilson. I think the ints can be managed. I think the flaws on Lance, Mac and Fields are not coachable.

The “Deep OT class” may not be as deep at LT in scouts eyes
mrcompletely11 replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Nails it. Sewell or slater at 8. No exceptions. I also think you can definitely find a starter at corner and safety in the 2nd. There is no LT in the in the second tier that can come in and start day 1 -
Dont they have a really good Left Tackle already?

From what I have seen, 2022 is not supposed to have much of a cap jump. Projected to be like $192.5M in 2022 and $202.5M in 2023. Basically, an increase of $10M a year (the way it's usually been pre-COVID). The benefit of the new TV deal will happen downstream and not right away. I don't think there will be a year where the cap goes up a huge amount like it did that one season in the NBA when it was like the wild, wild west in free agency. So sure, 5 years from now the cap might be $50M more than it is now, but I don't think it will jump up by $50M in a single season any time soon (if ever). They set up the contract that way so players should be able to make more money across the life of the contract and not all at once (increasing the cap each year allows teams to spend more each year and attract free agents). Obviously they have announced what the plan is for the cap, but I would be surprised if suddenly there was a mountain of money available all at once.

So true

Its going to be a few seasons before the cap really gets up

A phish show is infinitely better than a DMB concert but the women at the DMB is extraordinary.

I think what is happening now is that people are starting to realize that this draft class isnt as good as perhaps we once thought earlier in the year. Outside of Trevor these dudes all have some pretty substantial question marks. Granted the big question on Darnold when he came out was if he could clean up the turnovers and I do think that is something that can be at least tighten up with good coaching Can Wilson stay healthy and be able to adjust to NFL speed (I think so) Can Mac win despite his average arm and lack of mobility (Probably to a degree) Can Fields learn how to play faster and make quicker progressions (I honestly have no idea) total enigma Can Lance overcome the lack of reps, starts and throws to be a nfl starter (analytics say probably not) So I am staying with my prediction that one if not 2 qb's take a hard fall on thursday

In terms of team needs, this draft is custom crafted for us and where we pick. Go LT at 8, another oline in the 2nd, safety in the 3rd. Lets not get cute and try and trade down. Keep building the team and build the damn line
