My favorite part about the Reich hiring (so far) is watching him assemble such a talented staff that aren’t just his buddies. He wasn’t lying when he said his hires would have diverse NFL backgrounds. First off-season in forever where I’m feeling some hope.

For those who ARE interested in Sean Payton...
HarbingersDad replied to t96's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’ll go ahead and take the huddle mob on here for our moral high ground fans that are so full of poo it’s coming out of their ears. Couple thoughts here: 1) to those saying you won’t cheer for the panthers if Payton is hired, yes you will. This is the same as the mountain of fans claiming they’d never watch again during the Kaepernick era. They were watching 3 days later. You’ll be watching and cheering just as you always did so save us the nauseating grandstanding. 2) Bountygate is disgusting and maybe Sean Payton and Gregg Williams should be banned for life, but they aren’t. Game 1 of 2016 the Broncos were actively trying to decapitate Cam and they thought it was the greatest thing ever. Now obviously coaches didn’t get caught paying players to do that, but if you think the coaches weren’t all for it then I have oceanfront property to sell you in Kansas. Are we actively boycotting Gary Kubiak and that entire staff as well? Because boy oh boy did that affect the future of our franchise and the longevity of our franchise QBs health. 3) the whole argument of “no coach has won a Super Bowl for 2 different teams” is true, but doesn’t paint a full picture. Many coaches have gone to super bowls with 2 different teams and actually *improved* with their second team. Anyone ever heard of Andy Reid, Dick Vermeil, and Don Shula? Yeah, they did ok. 3) Let’s compare to another retread hire that 95% of this board mocked when the panthers hired rhule, Mike McCarthy. How are things going in Dallas? A hell of a lot better than Carolina. People on this board are just following the group think. Payton would be the best hire we could make outside of Harbaugh, another PROVEN, winner. We would be competing in the playoffs every year and a competent franchise again. To answer OPs question they could have a 2nd in this draft, but absolutely not our 1st. If they pushed hard for a 1st it would have to be in 2024 or later. And I’m a huge Ben Johnson guy. However known commodity >>>>> unknown commodity every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Payton may make you feel a certain type of way inside but he’d make this franchise competitive and relevant again. -
Yup. A good litmus test is to compare this to other fanbases expectations. 75% of other fanbases wouldn’t feel good about this season. The panthers fanbase is so desperately starved for anything good that we have to find our moral victory in an interim coach going 5-5 to finish the season (while missing the playoffs and ruining the chance to draft a franchise QB without trading away future drafts). It’s not the fans fault we are here, but this is pretty much rock bottom.

I have bad news for ya, this team has a ton of holes and is nowhere near competing for anything consequential. The only reason this game even mattered is because the NFC South is historically bad. The team stinks, the coaches stink, and the owner hasn’t shown a shred of competency since he bought the team. But I’m glad these last 10 games made you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Isn’t defense Wilks speciality?

Brian Burns is getting destroyed in the run game today.
HarbingersDad replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
My problem is Burns has always been he’s valued for “what he can be” rather than what he is. Right now he’s a one dimensional player that gets killed in the running game. He also has approximately one move to rush the passer. He does his spin move and if it’s there he has a nice Qb pressure, but if it’s not he’s done rushing the passer for that play. He doesn’t have the nonstop drive to get to the QB that other elite pass rushers have. The panthers are essentially valuing Burns as a Myles Garrett type player, but he plays like a slightly better Mario Addison. The absolutely ceiling for Burns (in my opinion) is developing into a Maxx Crosby type player. But that requires an endless motor and a big improvement against run. Burns is only 24 so hopefully there’s still time to get there once the team is competitive again. If not, the panthers will look stupid for a longgggg time for turning down that kings ransom. -
So who is better, Stroud or Young?
HarbingersDad replied to Randolph Panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I love everything about Stroud. His size, his arm, his accuracy. The guy has it all. But so have so many other OSU QBs. Their problem is Day scheme’s so well that all they need to do is get the ball to wide open receivers every play. Then when they get to the NFL and have to read professions and throw into tight coverage, it looks horrible. Fields is on coach #2 and still can’t hit the broad side of a barn at this level. Young’s problem is he’s fragile and tiny, but he improvises like a magician. He also can put the ball into tight windows. I honestly don’t know what the team should do assuming we draft 1st. -
Yup, wish more people understood this. Jags are a great example. Everyone thought they just needed a QB and the rest of the roster was solid. They got Trevor 2 seasons ago and still suck. When you go 1-16 or 2-15 you almost always have a lot more wrong than just needing a QB.

"Hello Mr Newton, Coach Wilks here..."
HarbingersDad replied to Coreyl90's topic in Carolina Panthers
Absolutely not. I love Cam just as much as anyone else, but this franchise needs to stop using him as a fall guy when it hits the fan. He said last year he made a mistake coming into a situation where he didn’t have a training camp and didn’t know the playbook. Cams legacy as a Panther is cemented. Time to move on for good and stop with the “we should bring back Cam!” every time things go sideways. -

Crazy how that works! Keep carrying that water for a billionaire. Maybe he will throw you a little bone before you jump on his lap for your afternoon nap.

I mean he tried his best to take away “Keep Pounding” from the culture of this franchise. He’s a pretty massive shithead.

You’re not wrong about having failed coaches, but you’re also looking at it through one single lense. On the flip side, firing rhule midseason accomplishes other things. 1) it shows the fan base that this isn’t acceptable 2) it shows the players that you’re committed to change for the better. Those guys are 100% going to check out if they lose 1-2 more games 3) you can salvage a bad taste in current players mouths for having 0 accountability at the coaching level. There’s a lot that goes into the decision. It’s not as black and white as “we having a bunch of poo coaches on the staff so what does it matter anyways.”

I’ll add to this, if you’re a season ticket holder and you can afford it- don’t show up and don’t sell your tickets. An empty stadium is worse for Tepper than a stadium full of opposing fans (which we have half the time anyways). When the camera zooms out and you start looking like the chargers did a few years ago, that poo is humiliating. Also helps with Tepper not banking stadium here/food/merch sales. Hit that peckerhead where it hurts as best we can.

The Run D Problem: Scheme, Personnel, or Both??
HarbingersDad replied to Jay Roosevelt's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m not going to defend Snow’s scheme, but it doesn’t help when your “superstar” edge rusher is a completely liability in the run game and your 1st round DT continues to get rag dolled every play in year 3. There’s definitely some personnel problems along with scheme problem. -
Go* not get. Oh well, fat fingers.

I wish Howell was going to stay, but I don’t see a world where that happens. I pay for UNC rivals like a dork and all the beat writers have confirmed Howell is 95% not playing in the crap bowl game UNC will get and 90% out the door to the draft. I also don’t believe Drake Maye is willing to sit another year. I’m sure Sam is feeling nostalgic right now after the pitiful season, but when the time comes he’s going to go pro. On top of all that, anything short of winning the Heisman next year will tank his draft stock even worse than this season did. Right now we are talking about him as a top 5 QB still. If UNC flops again next year we will be talking about him as a day 3 draft pick. The smart move is to get

He wears a glove on his throwing hand and that alone gives me enough PTSD to not sleep for a week.

Awesome that makes perfect sense. Thanks for the response!

Hey John, quick question for you. I’m pretty interested in the X’s and O’s of football, but I’ve never heard of a 3-3-3 look. I thought it might be because only 9 players were on the field, but I counted 10 when I rewatched the video. Is 3-3-3 a variation of a 3-3-5 and terminology used by Snow and the panthers?
