I still can't get over how much better he looks standing in the pocket. He's a little bouncy, but it's miles beyond last year. How Frank and Co didn't work with him on that is beyond me. If you drop back 5 yards out of a shotgun, it's really hard to protect. Maybe it's a combination of better coaching and better interior pass protection. But the results are night and day, at least from this drive.

I'd rather see him take what the defense gives him, and play within the offense. That Theilen pass wasn't a checkdown or anything. It looks like that's how the play is designed. If we start seeing him throw to covered running backs while a WR is running free downfield, I'd start being concerned.

Dropping back an extra 5 yards didn't help. From what we saw so far in the preseason, it looks like they've been working on that. Although, that clip looks more like accuracy than arm lacking power to me.

I got XL's yards right. What do I win?

Feels like they tried to give him some chances to pop off late in the last game. Usually that means they're trying to give the guy some good tape before he gets cut. Just like the RB the game prior. I think if anyone called, he'd already be gone. Some other team will probably call him in once he's a free agent.

The WR position - what 6 do we keep
PNW_PantherMan replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would also add that AT didn’t sign here to win. He got frustrated because we were bad, but he signed here for money. It’s that simple. -

No reason to cut him now. We have no idea what we have at WR beyond him. We're just hoping that these guys can figure it out. If we see some strides from Mingo or XL, I'm cool with offloading him. But let's not leave Bryce on his own after what happened last year. Just my opinion on it. -
The upside to having Plummer on the PS is nobody would claim him.

Theilen could fall off a cliff overnight. He's around that age. He might be decent trade bait towards the deadline. -
Did Steve Smith influence Tepper into firing Frank Reich?
PNW_PantherMan replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Another thing is that "all star coaching staff" probably made it so there were too many cooks in the kitchen. The coaching staff ended up being broken into different factions by the time Reich was toast. That's kinda wild to me. -

Two things can be true. Reich was bad no matter who his QB was. Same thing in Indy. They weren’t as bad as us last year, but his teams underachieved for the most part. Colts fans complained about the vanilla, outdated offense before he was fired there. -
Canales could be Mike McDaniel LITE
PNW_PantherMan replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I have no idea. Mike McDaniel looks like he's weighs 150 lbs. -
I'm just riding this wave for 2 weeks.

Carter had major injury issues. Plus he was a 5th round pick. He was 6'3 with really good speed, but his knees were made out of glass. We never needed anyone to compete with Steve for touches. We needed someone to force teams to not triple team Steve.

Zavala was one of the worst guards in the NFL last year. He's been consistently better than he was in each of the preseason games.

This video quality sucks, but it has all the plays from the opening drive. If you go back and watch his depth in the pocket, it's completely different. The roll out on 1st down was good. We need to do more of that. Then on 2nd down he just stands in there and throws a strike. He almost never did that last year. He would start in the gun and then take a few steps backward from there. I liked what I saw with that. It indicates that the coaching is actually working.
-
Yeah you never know what people might be going through. If it comes out later that he was calling in sick to go to Chuck E Cheese or whatever, we can all make jokes about it later. But, it could be something really serious. The coaches know what's going on and it's his right to privacy. Hopefully he's ready to play this year.

Will Legette be “red shirted” this year?
PNW_PantherMan replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Maybe he needs to drill baseball slides until it's second nature. I'm not sure that he's comfortable sliding. I would imagine that when you're trying to go down on purpose in the heat of the moment, you aren't consciously thinking "I should probably slide here". It needs to be a reaction. Edit; I'm not even talking about the right play lmao -
I'm not denying that things have been overly negative, and probably insufferable for a lot of people. I'm just saying whenever anything good happens, someone's always gotta bust down the door and complain that people were insufferable before. Why can't we just enjoy the good things without bickering at one another? I should have never made my post. I should have let it go, because I'm just making it worse. I understand both points of view. It's just kind of a buzz kill to me when we're all finally feeling better.

I'm not trying to downplay that he was a huge asshole. But I've been watching a lot of true crime documentaries, and those are actually terrible people.

Matthews looks leagues better than the bottom of our WR depth. I think that's an easy decision. Especially if we are in 2 TE sets often.
