  1. I'll answer. A receiver that makes the important catches on 3rd down and the red zone. A receiver that regularly creates mismatches and problems for defenses. The aggregate stats argument doesn't hold a lot of water with me personally. DJ is a good player and currently the best receiver on the roster. But if we pay him a Kenny Golladay contract I think that's going to be a mistake.
  2. Or they're going to trade for Jimmy G, Kirk Cousins, or Baker Mayfield and give them a huge extension.
  3. Absurd? Lol ok. We can agree to disagree. DJ received the 6th most targets in the NFL this season. He's obviously #1 on this team, but what I'm saying is he is not a true #1 receiver. Just like Teddy Bridgewater was our starter and put up decent numbers. Just because he exceeded what a backup QB would put up, doesn't mean he's not a backup QB tier player.
  4. He was also drafted in the 6th round and played for 20 years. He's an anomaly. Its not repeatable or something you can build a model around. Josh Allen was pretty close to being a champion this year, and we all know how close Cam was in 2015. Colin Kapernick was close with the 49ers. We're talking about a handful of games here where the outcome is slightly different, and the resulting story is completely changed.
  5. I'll gladly eat crow if it happens. I don't think DJ is bad at all. I just don't think he's an elite #1 option. That doesn't really change no matter who's throwing him the ball. He has not grown as a player since he was drafted and he is frequently invisible in crucial downs and situations. He is a #2 receiver.
  6. I feel that but at the same time, is that true for any position except QB? Even a top tier pass rusher probably isn't adding wins by himself. Or the best CB in the league.
  7. I don't disagree with any of that. But I do think QBs like Michael Vick have changed the league because they change how kids play the game. They see a pro QB do all the things that Vick or Cam did on TV and they want to play like them. Maybe they're not winning the Super Bowl year in and year out, but I think it has had a long term effect on the overall play of the QB position in the league.
  8. I hate moving money into the future so Rhule can try to "win-now" in year 3. What the hell is this "process" anyways? Tepper is a moron for not firing this guy. We're gonna be paying this roster until 2030 at this rate.
  9. That's debatable really. Every QB is not going to be Michael Vick or Cam Newton or Josh Allen, because there just aren't that many of those guys. Freakish athletes that are good enough to play QB in the NFL. But I don't know. Its hard to say the game hasn't changed because of QBs like Michael Vick. Does every QB possess incredible rushing ability with a cannon arm? Of course not. But QBs are much more athletic and quicker than they were years and years ago. Now its basically expected that your QB has some agility and escape-ability or else they are worthless. Drew Bledsoe would be killed in today's league.
  10. I'd be down for a Malik Willis lottery ticket with the 6th pick. Might be a reach, but he also might be a superstar where he would go 1st overall in a redraft years later. Probably won't happen though, because Rhule is going to take Pickett or some random defensive player that's projected to go around 15 overall.
  11. Yeah plus I hate the idea of trading away future pick(s) to get more picks in this years draft, which is a weaker class. That seems like a bad idea.
  12. Matt Rhule is like the coach from The Replacements, except the only guys he knows are from Temple and nobody else has to play with scabs.
  13. That's an incredibly awkward AMA. I'm only on the team because of the lame duck coach all the fans hate now, AMA! Good for him to get a chance in the NFL, but I really have no words.
  14. We're going to get outbid on Jimmy G and give Mitch Trubisky a Teddy Bridgewater deal out of desperation.
  15. At least Malik played a full season of football last season. And Liberty is technically in the big boy college subdivision.
  16. I expect this game to be tough, so we'll probably shoot 60% and put up 150 points and win. This team is so unpredictable.
  17. Really bad rebounding last night. Defense is usually a liability for us, but we gave up so many 2nd and 3rd chances on the glass.
  18. Yea that was bad wording. I don’t mean that Marshall and Shi are busts. I’m just pointing to the fact that we drafted 2 receivers last year that made close to no impact on the team. I can see us taking another one this year even though we have bigger needs.
  19. That's crazy to think we need help at WR. Beyond DJ, they extended Robbie Anderson and drafted Terrace Marshall and Shi Smith just last year. I had pretty high hopes for Marshall and Smith this year. But Marshall didn't do anything, and Shi Smith was barely on the field. What duds will we draft or sign this year?
  20. I really believed Matt Rhule was a good hire in year 1, but this was basically me watching the team this year during the Giants game.
  21. I'll admit I was part of that and I was dead wrong. At that time, I thought Matt Rhule knew what he was doing, and Teddy was a scrub. It turns out, Teddy knew what he was talking about and Matt Rhule is the scrub.
  22. In a vacuum, yes I do agree. You wanna burn any pick you already have on a QB that's 2 years on the bench from being elite? Go for it. That's obviously going to be worth it every time, even if the pick is 1st overall. The cost of simply drafting a guy with a pick you already have is relatively cheap. The rookie pay scale has really made it that way. If you look at any other position, taking a guy in the 1st round that isn't ready to play is madness. But I suppose QB today is probably the exception to that. It just wasn't that long ago teams were letting more raw QB prospects fall to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th rounds. So maybe that's just my age showing. I think for this 49ers team, it doesn't seem like it was a good decision. The 49ers to me are similar to the Rams before getting Stafford. They have a very strong roster, but their QB isn't good enough to win the big one. But that roster isn't going to be around for very long. To me, that's not a prescription to go sell the farm for a guy that's 2 years away. Now they're not going to have those picks to potentially replace players they can't afford to keep over the next 2 years. I'm just pointing out the crazy bet that the 49ers made on this guy. There's plenty of guys that have shown elite potential as prospects and never fulfilled that in the NFL. In hindsight, any winning bet was worth it. I'm just not convinced they thought it would be 2 years when they drafted him.
  23. That's a pretty big if. Jimmy G isn't good enough to get the 49ers over the hump, but they're looking at starting him again next season. They're also in the middle of a window here with player contracts. That's not a good sign. If Lance becomes an elite QB after sitting for several years, then that's great for Lance and the 49ers. It seems like a very steep price to pay to make a very low percentage bet. You can become a millionaire very quickly by abusing leverage in the stock market. That doesn't necessarily make it a good idea.
