For football scouts, DJ Burns is a huge "What if?"
PNW_PantherMan replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is the type of dude that Fitterer would trade up for in the 3rd round. -
I'm just tired of going for the home run swing with the top physicals guy that can't play. Just draft somebody that can get open and catch routine passes. We need guys like that. We don't necessarily need the next freak show first ballot HOF receiver. Those guys don't typically win championships anyways.
-
I have no idea. Just pick the guy who is good, please.
-
I agree. I like the Diontae Johnson trade in vacuum. It's pretty low risk by itself. But as our biggest skill player acquisition, it's pretty underwhelming. Beyond him, it's just Adam Thielen. And Thielen could fall off a cliff at his age.
-
I'll vote better in the poll, because pressed between either option I don't think we're worse off. Even if we're worse next year because of you know who, we'll hopefully be in a better spot for 2025 with what was done in this offseason.

I mean just on paper, losing Brian Burns and Frankie Luvu. Maybe Jadaveon Clowney and Josie Jewell have monster seasons and they're even better. But on paper I'd say we downgraded talent there. I think they knew the defense would have to take a hit so the offense could be improved.
-
Honestly though, it could easily happen if Bryce doesn't improve. The defense is definitely worse. And those offensive additions won't mean a whole lot if we don't have at least average QB play. I agree with the overall approach of focusing on the offense. But we could definitely be worse than last year.
-
Maybe. But he's not really the type of back I think we need to add.

Great post. For number 5 I would add a receiving specialist at running back. Someone to rotate with Chuba. I would just assume Miles Sanders doesn't exist from this point.

Canales on fixing Bryce's footwork
PNW_PantherMan replied to Jackie Lee's topic in Carolina Panthers
Thats the narrative for running it back with Bryce. I don't see how his receiving options are really any better than last year. Adam Thielen being a year older isn't going to help. I think the Diontae Johnson trade makes sense by itself. But in context of being our biggest move at a skill position, its pretty underwhelming. My philosophy would be get weapons. Because if Bryce doesn't improve, we will be picking another QB. And that QB will need people who can get open and catch the ball. Getting a receiving back or reliable tight end would help the QB position regardless of who is playing. -
Canales on fixing Bryce's footwork

One thing I'm not sold on is the weapons for Bryce. I'm not really convinced that spending so much money on the guard position is going to improve Bryce's ability to complete passes. He definitely needs better protection, but adding Diontae Johnson and a rookie isn't going to be enough. No receiving back. No reliable tight end. And Diontae Johnson and Adam Theilen? Oof. -
David Tepper on Pat MacAfee show

He reacted pretty well to that. He knows he's a laughing stock. -
I certainly wouldn’t use a 3rd but I would consider a 5th or later on one.

Bears cashing in on Bryce Young trade
PNW_PantherMan replied to Jackie Lee's topic in Carolina Panthers
No amount of strength training is gonna make his frame bigger. I’m not sure what you guys expected. -
The developmental QB is an outdated thing from the 80s and 90s. In todays game you can either play or you can’t. Teams aren’t drafting QBs and letting them develop for years like baseball pitchers. A 3rd day QB pick is just a lottery ticket. The odds that were in week 15 and Bryce is either hurt or a flop is significant. I could easily see the staff wanting to see what they have in a day 3 QB in that situation.
-
Do you really think the likelihood of a backup QB getting action is low on this team?

Anyone know which DEs we are still entertaining?
PNW_PantherMan replied to Panthero's topic in Carolina Panthers
It’s not really worth it if they can’t get someone for cheap. The defense is gonna be bad next year. No reason to throw money at as bandaid that won’t make much difference. -
Oof

An extra year to delay paying a player isn't really that great. If they are phenomenal, you might have to or want to come to an extension before they are through their entire rookie deal. If you hit on enough players that you are having trouble deciding which to sign long term, that's a great problem to have. And not one that's going to be solved by a 5th year option. If the quality of players is roughly equal between the late 1st and mid 2nd, I'd rather have more chances at picking a good player.

Just not a good first overall pick.

He won't

If they don't nail the draft, Bryce isn't going to have anyone to throw to.
