The Athletic FS - Bryce Conversation
PNW_PantherMan replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Thats fair. For me I think if the team looks more competitive, we’ll have some potential to look forward to in this coaching staff. Regardless of Bryce improves or not, I think it will be pretty obvious if they have the org going in the right direction. That said, if next year is a complete disaster all bets are off. -

I don't disagree but I think having a good line is more important than having a bruiser. The Eagles line made Jalen Hurts the most dangerous 1 yard runner in the league. He's strong for a QB but come on. That's all the line. -
I follow most of the major sports so I just look at it as selling at the deadline. More likely than not we’re going to be looking at 2025 by week 8 or whatever. It might be wise to sell off Thielen because he’s old and has no future here. And Diontae is not under contract. If he performs decently, he could fetch a decent return from a playoff team as a rental.

Depending on how it goes maybe move both of em.

A lot of it looks effortless but that's a quick dude. Everyone's quicker in the NFL so we'll see how it translates, but he is literally smoking everyone in those clips. -

If he's skilled it won't matter what style he is IMO. I never watched him play in college so I can't say. Not really familiar with Texas as I only loosely follow college football. I basically just watched all the Washington games last year lol. Punishing backs reach retirement age around 27, so I'm not too upset if he can dance his way to thousands of yards. As much as people hate him now, DeAngelo Williams was panned as a bad pick because of all the mileage in college. But he had a very good, long productive career. -

I don't know. I hope you're right. In retrospect I think even my fat ass could have put up a couple hundred yards behind that Philly line. They were absolute maulers in the run game. -
I realize you gotta draw the line somewhere, but yeah. The context is really everything. Imagining a QB lob a TD from the 20 yard line does not scream deep ball. It's borderline but it's really more of a longer intermediate throw as far as pass pattern and play design.

I agree. I think he's a better ball carrier than Sanders. Decent vision and quickness for a 3rd guy. -

Very Seifert-esque. Stoic one might say. Or weekend at bernies, as I used to call him. -
How many games are you willing to give Young?

I was a big Chuba hater year 1. Seemed like he had no balance. He'd hit a seemingly clean hole and fall over. He's still lacking in the pass game, as both a blocker and receiver. However he's worked very hard to improve and he's a pretty solid ball carrier now. I'm not surprised to see him staying late. Hopefully Tremble blossoms this year. I had big hopes for him out of college. -
If Thielen plays at the same level he did last year, he could help a playoff team as a 3rd or 4th option. Only thing that could hang up a trade is his contract. Haven't really looked into how much money would be due.
-
I'm not really convinced he's even replacement level. I feel like the worst case with a random waiver wire RB is the same outcome but cheaper.

Why not just try to draft some solid football players ya know? The roster is completely empty. I'd rather have the Amazon Basics version of a WR or DE than some 24 year old Make A Wish kid that never did a thing in school but be tall. In baseball you don't score a lot of runs by trying to hit every pitch out of the park. You get on base. And then you keep getting on base. And then when the pitch is right, you swing for the fences and bring everyone home. Our drafting strategy doesn't get anyone on base. Everyone they draft is a long shot. It's ok to have some picks like that, but you only get the luxury of those picks once you have a solid foundation.

We are so weak at the position I really felt like taking a higher floor, lower ceiling type prospect made more sense. It's why I wanted Ladd McDonkey. Maybe he won't translate well to the NFL, but the roster is so bare a solid contributor would be a big help.

Peak Smitty could get his with a punter at QB. Remember when they put like 7 guys on him in Seattle and he got so pissed he took a kick back for a TD?
-
God forbid we have someone on the team that can run routes.

Fair but if I recall he had stone hands. His issue wasn’t getting bodied by a waiver wire DB
