  1. They love that kind of stuff though. Its another thing to cover and they love playing the victim card. They couldn't contain their grins from the good fortune of having one of their reporters arrested live on air. So dang true. I do the CNN/Fox thing. But I also spend a ton of time online researching the facts/details and forming my own opinion on things. But you are right, it can get really stressful sometimes and you really need to disengage for a little bit to gain some perspective. If you stay engaged too long you start to buy in to the hype on the TV instead of looking at your actual life around you, which are two different things. My favorites are the morning shows. Those lead into the heavier news portion of the day and then I typically don't watch at night anymore because its too much propaganda and bluster.
  2. The reach of a Fox News (or the other news networks) goes far beyond the documented number of viewers in a given night. Way, way beyond. Think of it like a virus. There are millions directly infected and then they infect those around them. CNN has a similar format. Chris Cuomo for instance had a real news show in the morning's, and you could tell by his guests. But now they put him in primetime, it's not a real news show anymore and its targeting a different type of viewer. There are guests on his current show that would not have been on his news show. Then he throws it to Don Lemon which is basically like watching Tucker Carlson throw it to Hannity.
  3. So true. I've seen 2 different things from CNN that help me understand where they are coming from. One was years ago when Obama was still in his early years in office, and CNN did a segment discussing all of the tactics used by Fox News to attract and keep viewers. It was interesting to them because Fox was doing very well in the ratings, so they did a dive into it. They were mean spirited about it, but now it appears they are using the same tactics for viewers. The other thing I saw was when CNN was giving "the history of..." series. One of them was the history of the news. They went way back and showed the evolution of it. One point that they made that stuck with me was when they said there is so much competition out there, that if you work in the news you had to adjust your expected audience. For a TV program, you no longer tried to create a news show that appealed to 50 million viewers at the same time. The new mission was to capture 2 million viewers who were loyal, and kept coming back.
  4. We have some of those people on this board. But the Daily Show definitely hit a hot button in its delivery. If you deliver something in a comedic form, to some people its so much more powerful and believable. Its like "yeah, its so obvious that X is Y and Y is Z, that its laughable to think otherwise."
  5. Thanks for the link, I'll listen to it later.
  6. I never said anything about political pandering, and I'm not rejecting expertise. I am just offering an explanation as to why SOME people drag their feet when things move and change. People presented the previous info as cold hard facts that could not be questioned, and anyone who wanted to talk about it needed to just STFU and quit being a science denier. Then when we learn more and things are different, you want to throw your hands up and say "well we didn't know as much about it back then." So why present it as cold hard facts that can't be questioned? Science is about questioning things and being challenged. It shouldn't be used as a hammer to beat over someone's head if they want to discuss something.
  7. Why would I give a poo based on what I was responding to? I get it. As long as you can show someone else being more crazy, you never have to look inward. Just keep chugging along on your path, completely above question or doubt. Fly high brotha.
  8. The "but, but, but...look at them" response.
  9. Thousands upon thousands of people do that and worse every single day. I certainly wouldn't want the twitter mob going after all of them. But we live in a world where people can be shot and killed and very few give a poo if it doesn't fit their chosen agenda. But let some guy act rude and aggressive on camera and "OMG WE MUST TAKE ACTION NOW!" Our priorities always slant towards low hanging fruit.
  10. It's all new so it's a moving target. But it gets annoying when every theory or guesstimate by someone with a credential next to their name has it thrown out like its concrete fact and anyone who wants to question it is called something like "science denier." And then the goalpost moves and we start the cycle all over again, with the new theory being sold as unquestionable fact.
  11. So you think posting the numbers for discussion is a bad thing?
  12. What hurts intellectualism the most is that there are too many pseudo-intellectuals out there. I'm okay with what happened to him, I'm just not okay with how it all went down...if that makes sense.
  13. What's so hard about posting some numbers to see? Not talking in code, and not throwing up a random link where someone has to go digging for it. If you are talking about numbers, just post the numbers. Its not hard and helps the conversation.
  14. List out the numbers you are talking about.
  15. What are the numbers you are using?
  16. Its weird but not impossible, particularly if your wife never had symptoms. My wife has a friend in Chicago who had it. He had it BAD, as in several weeks in a hospital type bad. But before that, he had no idea what he had...he just thought he was regular sick. He spent time with his wife and a bunch of time with his daughter, taking her to school and what not while he was home sick (before the trip to the hospital). The wife and daughter were tested and were negative, and never had any symptoms.
  17. I think this death count is a little different, to be honest. A lot of it has to do with technological advances though. But I would say if we really treat COVID like some other big diseases, years from now they are going to take what they think were the deaths and go x 5 or even 10 on it. And at that point I can't even get mad at them. Its not a conspiracy or even unusual. Its been done before where we take something like this, assign a certain number of deaths we think happened at the time, then years later throw factors of x 5 - 10 onto it.
  18. The material was great, simply fantastic. Some say it may be the greatest bit of material that anyone has ever seen. There was other material, but nobody had ever seen it. I made it famous. Believe me.
  19. I'm not sure how it would fit someone with a larger head. I do know that it comes with a huge strap that goes around the back. The first time I put it on all I used was the strap, and my wife had to point out that it had the little ear holes as well. The strap will definitely fit a larger head.
  20. As I've stated previously, I had some issues with the first 3-4 types of masks that I tried. I think its due to the shape of my face, and in particular my nose. Once I found surgical masks it was a huge win for me. Last week I went ahead and ordered some other types of masks, particularly since it looks like gyms might be requiring them soon. At any rate, I found that I can breath pretty well in this one (pic attached) and its nice because it doesn't fog up my glasses. Its a little warmer to wear than the surgical mask, but I can breath in it a little easier and I can definitely talk in it better. I got it on Amazon for like $7.
  21. He's got the entire universe figured out
  22. Your understanding of who is getting tested needs some refinement.
  23. I've said from the moment we started shutting things down that bars should be the last thing opened back up. I still can't believe places had already opened bars up.
  24. I didn't see you mention it either
