How can you predict the success of a college QB in the NFL?

The Ravens can’t be this dumb? They’re a smart organization right?

I think people don't like Kirk Cousins so they don't want to mention that he actually started it. -

I think Cousins deal DID set a precedent that led to Watson being able to piggyback off of it. So now there are 2 deals where a franchise QB hit the open market and both were fully guaranteed deals. Also, the numbers were very large back then. Cousins deal put him in the conversation for top 3 paid QBs in the NFL. It was more than Drew Brees and most other QBs at the time. -

To make sure we are on the same page, Kirk Cousins got a fully guaranteed deal when he joined the Vikings. He was the one that got the ball rolling. Watson getting the same thing confirmed what we already knew, which was if a potential franchise QB hit the open market they wouldn't have to play by the same rules as everyone else. And Watson wasn't even technically on the open market and still got paid. Lamar would be smart to stick to his guns on this one. There is no reason to cave. Even if they tag him each of the next 3 seasons he's going to make a ton of money and STILL come out of the other end being able to hit the open market. -
"Elite" is subjective and serves no purpose to this conversation. I said Carr is legit, because he is. He is not Sam Darnold.

You are just speaking from your butthole and haven't done a single bit of film study on the actual player. And outside of that, Josh McDaniels is the same guy that immediately had an issue with the existing starting QB of his last HC stint and drafted The Golden Calf of Bristol to replace him. That is the level of QB acumen we are talking about here.

Its a blessing that someone he hires needs to take advantage of. The Detroit Lions are a good example of a team where the owner is willing to pay but the people they hire don't know what to do with the money. Matt Millen was an absolute disaster but he was one of the highest paid GMs in the league. He was able to grab Mooch, who was one of the highest paid HCs in the league. They were able to land Mike Martz as OC because they paid the best. The story goes on and on and on. Tepper is willing to open up the checkbook so its up to the top guys he's hired to deliver on that funding. I am stupid crazy excited about this staff. This is almost the polar opposite of the Matt Rhule hire and Matt Rhule staff. We should NEVER hire a guy like Rhule ever again. He doesn't have the NFL pedigree to put together a quality staff. That's why we were flooded with college guys and cast offs with Rhule. Guys are literally uprooting their families and putting faith in the head coach when they sign on. Noone takes pulling their kids out of their school lightly. Rhule couldn't get legit NFL guys to do that. Frank Reich on the other hand was able to land Todd Wash, who was in the cat bird's seat in Detroit on a rising tide. And he still made the lateral move to Charlotte. That's powerful AF and speaks to what Reich + Tepper can do.

I think the best move we can make right now is to bring in Derek Carr. This guy is not Teddy 2 Gloves, Darnold or Mayfield. He is a legit QB.

This is what I came in to post. I personally heard Steve Smith explain the situation and he was very specific in the details.

would you be opposed to moving back up for Bijan Robinson?

The QB School : Breaking down AR and Levis
Wes21 replied to Your GFs favorite huddler's topic in Carolina Panthers
Let's take a moment to be honest. We never really spent a bunch of time trying to develop Cam. We let Cam be Cam and tweaked a few things. Cam said the first time he ever had to learn to identify the Mike linebacker was in New England. Then he said New England was one of only a couple of teams in the entire league that tasks their QB with that job, which was the kind of stuff that made his learning curve with the Patriots so steep. WTF? He literally said that. -

The "running QB" has a huge opportunity this Super Bowl
Wes21 replied to GOAT's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think if the Eagles can jump out to some quick scores, Andy Reid will stop the Chiefs running game. He bails on the run game SO quick. Always has. -
I love this hire. And in a way it seems like karma that Reich gets a chance to be the first HC hired during the cycle, which gives him the ultimate jump on assistant coaches. This is in complete contrast to when he went to the Colts and was the last coach hired and part of the staff was already hired by Josh McDaniels...who pulled out of the job. I certainly hope Tepper opens up his wallet to secure quality assistants. It can make or break a regime.

Reich intro presser as colts HC transcript from 2018
Wes21 replied to panther4life's topic in Carolina Panthers
One thing to remember is that due to how Reich got the Colts gig after McDaniels pulled out, he was hired "late" and it created a weird assistant coach situation. It seems like Karma that Reich was hired FIRST this time. -
He is a talented kid that got overdrafted. I would take a shot at him, but I wouldn't just hand him the keys to the city. One key is that an offense will need to be built around him. I wouldn't force him into a scheme that doesn't cater to his strengths and keeps him away from his weaknesses. He is not accurate enough to run a precision passing game where timing and ball placement is king. He needs to be in an offense that allows him to go off schedule and take big shots for chunk plays.

The team has alot of leeway with me. I would say if they hire Matt Patricia I would pack my Panthers bag and move out. But anything short of that won't keep me from supporting the team. I will just watch less of the games and put less emotional energy into the team if we make a bad hire and keep losing. I really like our GM so I am hopeful for the future.

Maybe THIS is why Harbaugh wants back in the NFL

Wes21 replied to mc52beast's topic in Carolina Panthers
To me its not even close. Harbaugh has a long history in the NFL with lots of connections. Matt Rhule barely had a cup of coffee in the NFL, and he was only an assistant. NFL guys didn't know Rhule well enough to risk coming to work for him, or Matt was dumb enough to think he could run an NFL offense AND NFL defense with college guys. Harbaugh's first OC in San Fran had 13 years experience in the NFL, while the defensive coordinator had close to 25 years experience in the NFL. That was in addition to Harbaugh's 15 years experience in the NFL. -
Rapoport and Pelissero talk head coach openings
Wes21 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Leftwich deserves the criticism until he works his way out of it. He was a part of the coaching staff and eventually was the playcaller for one of the worst offenses in the modern era. Ironically under Steve Wilkes. -
Short of winning the Super Bowl I would not bring back Wilks. That being said if we keep him it needs to be immediate and without hesitation. That will allow him to hire the best staff he can find.

Sam Darnold is probably a good comp for Will Levis as well. I think as fans we miss on some prospects because we don't get to meet them in person. There are some things you really need to experience about a guy face to face to appreciate...both good and bad. But I think teams miss on some prospects BECAUSE they met the guy in person. In the case of Will Levis that is probably going to be the case. The film should speak for itself, but when he walks into the room he's going to "look the part" of an NFL starting QB that can be the face of the franchise. That is going to convince some team that they see something on film that isn't there, and that they can "fix him" with good coaching. The GM for the Bears overrafted Mitch Seabiscuit after meeting him in person, and seeing what kind of car he drove. That's how weird things can get sometimes. The offseason underwear olympics will be very kind to Mr. Levis.

Matt Stafford as well.
