  1. I haven't seen the ads in question, so I'm posing in this thread to see if they suddenly pop up. I've had several occasions on a different forum where someone was talking about something in a thread I posted in...and suddenly I got an ad for it. One time it was a dude that had to bury his dad, and he was posting about the suit he chose to wear. He posted a picture of it and gave details of the brand and what he paid, etc. I just posted something like "sorry for your loss. dope suit though" and next thing you know I'm getting ads for a brand of suit I'd never even heard of before that thread.
  2. The biggest problem I have with hiring "college coaches" is that they don't have enough NFL ties or perspective on who they should be hiring.
  3. The city of St. Louis told the Rams "start winning and we will build a new stadium."
  4. The Pats do it all the time. For those that are saying Gilmore might have a little something with his knee...and he might have been scaled back in practice...that combo would make the injury report correct. And if Gilmore wasn't listed like that and couldn't play or left the game due to injury, the Panthers could get in trouble. I remember several specific situations where it happened to other teams. If the guy did not fully participate, you have to disclose it or you could get into trouble. And if the guy has some kind of ailment, particularly while also scaling back in practice...even if its not directly related to why he took reps off...the team could get into trouble.
  5. I remember that too, because I was playing a guy that had some Rams on his fantasy squad.
  6. Pat McAfee has done both (kicker and punter) and he swears they are 2 very different skill sets
  7. The win over the Saints was decent. But the reality is they are 6-7 going into this weekend. The other 2 wins were against the Jets and Texans, which are among the worst teams in the league with a combined 5-21 record going into the weekend. I like our roster. I'm not a fan of our coaching staff and what they are doing with it.
  8. I would love for us to move on from Rhule. The experiment is over. Time to get a real pro in charge.
  9. If Rhule doesn't pull off 2 to 3 more wins this season, it's a waste of time to keep him. History suggests that a successful coach will "win" sometime in his first 2 seasons. It's rare for a coach to open up with 2 bad seasons and "turn it around" after that. I bring up 2 to 3 more wins because 7-9 seems to be the breaking point. If a guy can't get the team to at least that record once in his first 2 years...it's probably not going to happen. Dick Vermiel, Jim Schwartz and Kyle Shanahan are exceptions. There have been tons of teams who kept guys after 2 bad years and all it did was set them back another year.
  10. Unless you can land a Peyton Manning, tanking is a fantasy fans have that isn't backed by reality. The NFL is not the NBA.
  11. I like the idea of getting someone outside of the organization, but you have to remember that football is a good ol' boys network and people are going to draw from their own circles. Gettleman worked with Accorsi, so its no surprise that Accorsi recommended Gettleman twice. You can pull in a Tony Dungy, but he's going to be fixated on guys like Caldwell, Herm Edwards, etc. I think you want to avoid having too many chefs in the kitchen, but it does seem like there needs to be at least 2-3 guys pulled together who have distinctly different circles they've run in. Its crazy how interwoven things get when you start piecing together how certain people ended up getting certain jobs, based on who they knew.
  12. If you listen to people who are close to the organization, there are actually 3 different phases of Jerry's ownership of the Cowboys. You can split up Jerry's ownership in the 2 parts that you just mentioned. But they said that Jerry has quietly given power to others in the organization to make football decisions for the last 8-10 years. Jerry is still front and center when it comes to the microphone. But he's more of a figurehead at this point, while other people are making the actual decisions. The change in approach has corresponded with the sudden uptick in wins and competitiveness over that time.
  13. I wanted to take a second to talk about this one, because Houston is so dysfunctional right now. Culley was brought in to be a yes man to the whims of Jack Easterby. That's why they went with a guy that was completely off the radar and who would be happy just to have the gig - and not push back when Easterby wants to do something stupid like cut their starting linebacker in December for personal reasons. Its a fascinating thing to watch because you have a team who has a guy in charge who cares more about being in charge and doing it his way than he cares about winning football games. The guy spied on and outed his own starting quarterback. WTF?
  14. "Only winners get wings." I still say that to this day. RIP DT.
  15. Which helps explain why a guy who is fully extended is at a disadvantage to a guy who hasn't reached full extension.
  16. College football is checkers, NFL football is chess.
  17. In 9 games last year Minshew had passer rating in the 90's or 100's in 7 of them.
  18. Our defense was like "want to touch the Heini!"
  19. What ticked me off about that acquisition was they claimed "oh this is great, we will work as one company for all of your needs!" Then every time I'd call they would make it clear they were 2 separate companies who couldn't read eachother's computers. They couldn't even transfer me. They would tell me the number of the other company and I'd have to call them myself. Then the notes of everything I just wasted 20 minutes telling the other agent had to be completely retold to the new person. But in typical fashion, that person would waste 20 minutes of my time and then send me to someone else where I'd have to re-explain everything all over again. I have literally never called DirecTV where it took me less than an hour.
  20. About a month ago I went ahead and "cut the cord." I had the student rate for my Sunday Ticket ($99/year) and it was taken out in monthly installments. It was tied to a credit card that expired and I forgot to update my billing info. DirecTV instantly terminated my entire subscription and closed my account. I called the day after getting the "sorry, your payment could not be processed" to get them paid and update my CC info but they said that was not an option. WTF? Per usual I spent over an hour on the phone being passed around to different agents with no positive end in sight. It reminded me of when I was a DirecTV customer. There wasn't a single call I made to them that lasted less than an hour. They are terrible to deal with and their systems are wack. At any rate having that happen ticked me off so bad I went ahead and bought a streaming box and cancelled my regular cable as well (Cox). I will never buy Sunday Ticket from DTV again. If another company picks it up I will consider it. But I will never deal with DTV again. I'm over it.
