Pickett "had fun catching up" with Matt Rhule
Wes21 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
His hands are so small that he can't wear a watch. It slips right off. -

You were lied to for clicks. Sorry you had to find out this way. Elements are being added to the chain of events that never happened. That is what I am talking about. At the end of the day, there was a perfect storm of events that led Stafford to the Rams. Not only did he want to be there, but they wanted him just as bad, and the Lions front office was extremely comfortable with the Rams front office. The Lions GM just came from the Rams, where he had spent his entire NFL front office career (since 2003). The Asst. GM for the Lions was also from the Rams, and had been there just as long as the GM. The way the Lions describe the events matches how Kyle Shanahan recalls the events. Once the ball started rolling, it happened so quick that there wasn't time to react. The Lions new staff was most comfortable dealing with the Rams, and the Rams were willing to do whatever it took to get Stafford. They even felt comfortable enough to work out a deal for a slight delay in executing the trade so that the Rams would take on Goff's roster bonus that was due, and not the Lions. There were several player names discussed during the negotiations as well. In the end only Goff was included in the deal, though Michael Brockers came over in a separate deal shortly after. Offers from other teams were used as the backbone of the negotiations between the Rams and Lions. Both teams stayed locked into negotiations knowing a deal was inevitable. -

Stafford didn't nix the Panthers trade. -
Rhule not on list of coaches speaking at Combine
Wes21 replied to mc52beast's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think modern coaches see the pitfalls of past head coaches who had absolute power, trying to pull double duty as HC and GM. They recognize that someone has to be in the GM seat, and it needs to be someone they trust and connect with. They still have the control, but they are delegating alot of the tasks rather than having to take them on directly. -
Rhule not on list of coaches speaking at Combine
Wes21 replied to mc52beast's topic in Carolina Panthers
Keep researching. Having control is one of the deals Shanahan worked out as a part of taking the job. It was one of the things that made him overlook the main thing he said he wanted in a team he chose...a quarterback already in place. Kyle runs the show, and Lynch is his right hand man. Lynch had to go to Kyle and ask to be his General Manager. After some time to think about it, Kyle said okay. It can be slightly tricky to piece everything together because both Kyle and John like to change their stories over time. If you listen to them describe the quarterback search that led to Trey Lance, they have put together 3 or 4 versions of the events that don't align with one another. -

Panthers have reached out to Minnesota for Kirk Cousins
Wes21 replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think Kirk gets a bad rap. He is put into a position similar to what Matt Stafford used to be put into with Detroit, where he has to constantly drop 30+ points a game just to have a chance at winning in many weeks. In 2021 the Vikings lost 9 games. The opposing team scored 30 or more points in 5 of those losses. Kirk had the team within 1 score in all of those games except for one. There were 2 other losses where the other team put up 27 and 29 points, and Kirk had them within a field goal at the end. Kirk dropped 30+ points on 7 different teams. In 2020 it was more of the same. Kirk dropped 30+ points on 5 different opponents, and he scored 27 or more in 10 different games. He didn't have a single digit scoring game. His opponents scored 30+ in 7 different games, with 2 of those being 40 burgers and they even had a 50 burger dropped on them. -
Cousins/JimmyG makes a lot of sense for Rhule (not the Panthers)

I remember my first NBA basketball game. It was Pistons vs Kings at the Palace, and my uncle had scored a suite from work. It was my first year of college, so I was around 18 and new to drinking. The suite had free beer, so I got pretty loaded. I remember sitting in my seat watching the game, and at one point I couldn't remember who had the ball. Like literally staring at the court with a guy dribbling a ball, and not being able to process whether it was a Piston or a King, or what direction each team was going. -
Kudos to Flores for taking the role. It shows he really wants to be a part of the league and he isn't trying to use the lawsuit as a career move.

this year’s OL free-agent class boasts some major talent
Wes21 replied to BlitzMonster's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Dallas kid (Connor Williams) was apparently the most penalized guy in the league and got benched at one point. Do you know how bad you have to hold to get the most holding calls in the league when you play for a team the refs let hold more than most other teams? I am reminded of TJ Lang when he went from Green Bay to Detroit. The Packers are also a team that is allowed to hold at a higher rate. TJs holding calls made a noticeable jump, to which Lang said at one point that he didn't understand it because he wasn't doing anything different than when he was in Green Bay. -
The Ravens were known for their defense, but the D had some issues that postseason. It was Flacco and the offense that stepped up. Its kind of a funny thing to think about. Its the opposite of Peyton Manning. Peyton was a great QB who did alot of incredible things. But his 2 Super Bowl rings came in postseason runs that he didn't play like Peyton Manning. For his first ring, he only threw 3 TD passes in 4 games compared to 7 interceptions. For the second ring it was 2 TD passes in 3 games, including a 56 QB rating in the Super Bowl.

I did a little digging for the backs that are being hidden in the graphic due to how it was created. 2009 Saints - Reggie Bush 2010 Packers - Ryan Grant was injured, but I'm seeing a 4 year $30M contract 2011 Giants - Brandon Jacobs had a 4 year $25M contract at one point 2012 Ravens - Nobody 2013 Seahawks - Marshawn Lynch 2014 Patriots - Nobody 2015 Broncos - Nobody 2016 Patriots - Nobody 2017 Eagles - Darren Sproles 2018 Patriots - James White 2019 Chiefs - LeSean McCoy

Here's a little more fuel for your fire. Joe Flacco wasn't a game manager when they won the Super Bowl. He had one of the best postseason runs in history. When they were showing graphics of how he played, they had to bring up Joe Montana for comparison purposes. Flacco is tied for the most touchdowns thrown in a single postseason run, and he did it without throwing a single interception. He had to survive a shootout with Peyton Manning, and another shootout in the Super Bowl where he tossed 3 more TDs. Only once has Tom Brady had to go thru 4 games to win a Super Bowl, and that was his 2020 Bucs title run. Brady came up short of Flacco's numbers from that 2012 Super Bowl run.

Offseason finally here. Let's get down to business.
Wes21 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
The staff said it themselves. If you want good lineman, you have to draft them. Teams hold onto their good lineman. So if a guy is available via free agency, there is a reason for it. -
I fully agree with the point but the salary for Percy Harvin is misleading. Its like saying C-Mac only made $990k if we would have won the Super Bowl in 2021. Harvin's contract with the Seahawks was very similar to C-Mac contract. Buildiing on the point, I have noticed something else in terms of resource allocation. Not a single one of those guys on the list was drafted in the 1st round by the team they won the Super Bowl with. The Super Bowl team paid less to acquire the player via the draft, free agency or trade.

His legacy in football lives on. Steelers all pro defensive lineman Cam Heyward is one of his son's. He literally writes "IRON HEAD" on his gameday eye black. If you watched the Senior Bowl this year, Connor Heyward was playing. That's his youngest son. He went to Michigan State, and they spent some time talking about his dad.

Albright: Panthers circling on Pickett
Wes21 replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
So the coach and staff that is overly obsessed with metrics and a few inches or pounds...is going to completely ignore one of the biggest and most important metrics in football? If we take Pickett, they should announce the pick and announce the firing of Rhule at the same time. -
Wow. I find that take interesting, since all of the media I have taken in has been 80% slanted towards the Rams and Rams player storylines. Joe Burrow has been a convenient side note. On another note, I wonder what the "on field energy" will be like before the game. I will never forget Pat Kirwan when we were in the big game against the Broncos. Leading up to the game, he had chosen the Panthers. But when he was on the field and watching the teams warm up, he changed his pick to the Broncos. He said you could tell how much more prepared and focused the Broncos were.

I could see it. I mean if I were in prison and he were my cell mate...nevermind.

Judging by the coverage so far on NFL Network (who has a permanent studio on the Rams campus), I am going to assume that even if the Bengals show up strong, they will not get the calls from the refs to win the game. The biggest "tell" the refs give off on how they are going to call the game is a timely defensive holding or illegal contact on 3rd down to give the Rams a 1st down. As soon as you see that, it should be more than a yellow flag. It should be a red flag for anyone watching the game. Personally I am okay with either team winning the game. The storylines in this one are so plentiful that the media has barely needed to touch the Sean McVay vs old assistant coach Zac Taylor angle. In normal years that would have been front and center. With this Super Bowl, it has been a side note.

I just got off the phone with the team and we highly disagree. You just don't see it yet, because you are "just a fan." Bury your head in the sand and 7 years from now it will all make sense.
