Preseason snaps are better than nothing, but the regular season snaps are where we would need to see him to judge what he's made of. "Speed of the game" is one of the biggest things that players have to adjust to when they get to the NFL. And part of that speed comes from gameplanning, which doesn't happen during preseason. I remember Justin Fields putting up some highlight plays in preseason. Then he made the comment after one of the preseason games that the NFL is slower than he thought. Once the regular season hit, he saw the difference and it ate him alive.

Its crazy how fast things changed. I am in Virginia and in the late summer of 2019 I got a slurpee from 7/11. It came with a Redskins commemorative cup. The players featured on it were Josh Norman, Alex Smith, Ryan Kerrigan, Trent Williams, Jordan Reed and DJ Swearinger. Fast forward about 6-8 months and the team wasn't even named the Redskins anymore, and the only players left were Alex Smith and Ryan Kerrigan. Then at the end of the next season those guys were gone as well. So its an interesting cup to own since it has no relevance a short time after I bought it. LOL Here is a random picture off the internet. The one at the top right with al of the players on one cup is the one that came with my slurpee.

I'm with you, I want both of them tossed out. Leaving her in place would be a sham. But its a sham I could see the league trying to do. "Oh we got rid of that evil Daniel! Now introducing Tanya! Look, we have another female owner! Isn't that great!" I think Dan falls in the realm of useful idiot right now, as far as the league and other owner's are concerned. He's so scared of getting kicked out he will do anything. "Oh look, we just spent $100M on land to build a new stadium!"

I think its a dumb idea as well and I hope they get called out for it. But as of right now its already in that direction. On Tuesday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said that the structure the league laid out in its punishment of the organization has been in place ever since and will stay also that way until otherwise indicated. "Dan Snyder has not been involved in day-to-day operations; don't believe he's been at the facility at all," Goodell told reporters in a press conference at the NFL owner's meetings in Palm Beach, Fla. "Tanya has represented the team as the CEO, both on a day-to-day basis but also here with the league. She represented the club here and that will continue for at least the foreseeable future." https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/commanders/roger-goodell-tanya-snyder-not-dan-will-continue-representing-commanders

Snyder knows his back is against the ropes so he is willing to try anything to buy favor. The name change never happens if all of this other stuff wasn't going down. Then suddenly he appoints Tanya Snyder as "co-CEO," which was a female play. Then he hires a minority president and minority general manager to go with the minority head coach. I am rooting for the guys he hired, but I hope the league boots the Snyder's out of the league. But what they will most likely do is compromise by moving Snyder out and Tanya into his place. Which doesn't really accomplish the goal other than selling it to people who don't know any better.

The only reason this is even "a thing" is because Snyder is failing while owning one of the largest market teams in the entire NFL. So he is hurting all of the owner's indirectly, while having a more direct impact on guys like Jerry Jones. The Bengals owner could be doing the same stuff...its just that nobody cares.

As a former NBA basketball player said, "nobody ever says they are going on vacation to Cleveland."

Rapaport's tweet is another example of him tweeting out whatever the F he's told to tweet out by the agent and the team...no matter how non-sensical it is.

One thing to remember about the Legion of Boom was they benefitted from some financial quirks that were unique to those Super Bowl years. Everyone knows about Wilson being cheap along with the other guys. But they were even able to grab NFL talent via free agency for relatively cheap. The 2013 season was an odd year for free agency and players and agents accused the teams of collusion to suppress salaries. Some good talent took 1-2 year prove it deals to be ready to hit the market again in 2014 and 2015. One of those players was DE Cliff Avril. After turning down an offer from the Lions, he didn't get the offer he was looking for in free agency...so he signed on with the Seahawks for 2 years at $7.5M per year. That's about half of what he was asking for, and less than he made the previous year with the Lions. Cliff was a fireball of a pass rusher, but he stunk against the run. The Seahawks were able to pay him like the part time player that he was. At the same time they were able to grab Michael Bennet for 1 year at $5M. Marshawn Lynch was still on his rookie deal when the Seahawks traded for him. He made $3M total in the first 2 years with Seattle. Wow. Their unique position financially and how everything lined up with Pete's vision in terms of the kids they drafted softened the blow of making idiotic moves like giving Matt Flynn and Zach Miller big contracts, or trading a 1st round pick for Percy Harvin and giving him a big contract. Sidney Rice was another guy the Seahawks gave a big contract to that didn't work out.

Pete had an advantage back then. He had been scouting many of the guys they took since they were in high school/junior high. He had even been in some of their living rooms, and saw what their home life was like and what made them tick. Pat Kirwan is friends with Pete and he remembers when Earl Thomas signed to play college ball at Texas. Pete called Pat and said "keep an eye on the Earl Thomas kid I just lost to Texas. I think he's the next Troy Polamalu." Years later I remember fans thought for sure Pete was going to draft "his" USC safety, Taylor Mays. But he took Earl instead. He knew exactly what he was doing. Richard Sherman talks about when Pete showed up at his high school to talk to him. Pete had the vision of Richard playing corner, even though he was going to Stanford to play wide receiver. "I was a high school junior when I first met him. I got pulled out of class unexpectedly to see him waiting in the hallway—Pete Carroll, national championship-winning head coach. We stood and talked there by the lockers for a few minutes. I’ll never forget that—USC’s head coach coming to recruit me at Dominguez High School in Compton in 2004. At the time, it was one of the coolest experiences of my life. He said, "you’ve got the perfect size to be a lock-up corner." I’d never heard that before: "lock-up" corner. I made ‘lockup2006’ my email address and used it until I got to college. I didn’t end up going to USC, because my mind was already made up to go to Stanford, and there was no way I was passing up the opportunity to get a Stanford education, but I could tell then there was something that separated Carroll from others coaches who recruited me. You could feel the positive energy, how upbeat he was and how much he believed in what he was saying. He had a different aura to him. He had some football smarts too. He knew I’d end up being a corner even though I went to Stanford to play wide receiver. Years later, after a position switch halfway through my career, he drafted me in the fifth round in 2011 as part of his second draft class. At Stanford we’d beaten USC before he left for Seattle, and one of the first things he told me was, "you’ve got one strike against you already." https://www.si.com/nfl/2014/01/31/super-bowl-48-richard-sherman-pete-carroll

It holds true for every single team in the NFL. Alot of teams are kicking themselves for passing on Aaron Donald. But even the Rams passed on Aaron Donald. The Packers are one of the best drafting teams in the NFL. One draft they have a hard time living down is 1989. They had pick #2 and 4 of the top 5 guys picked that year became hall of famers (Troy Aikman, Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas and Deion Sanders). They took a bust.

NOONE has 5 years in terms of being able to turn in a poo sandwich for 4 years and then start winning in year 5. There are some coaches who actually thought that, and they got fired. Anyone who actually knows NFL football knows that a successful coach with a particular team will start winning in year 2. The latest they win is year 3...but that is rare. Most of the time giving a coach a 3rd season after losing in year 1 and year 2 is a waste of time. Rhule's comments do not speak to the idea that he is ignorant of his situation. His comments are of a coach who knows his reality, and is trying to talk thru it. Every word out of his mouth says "OMG I know I suck but don't fire me!"

Sigh. (It hurts when you see it pointed out like that)

30% of the time we win every time! -
I was in alot of fights when I was young. But I remember being in 2 altercations that were in opposite ends of the spectrum. I remember being in a fight with a kid who was clearly overmatched. My heart didn't allow me to whip him, because he had no clue what he had stepped into. I threw some punches and pushed him around, but my heart wasn't into it. He had no chance. It didn't seem right. Fast forward years later. I lost my temper and all rational thought left my head. I pushed and squared up on a particular guy, and he just laughed and let me calm down. In the moment it made perfect sense to challenge this guy. Afterwards I calmed down and realized I had written a death sentence, but he was kind enough to just laugh it off and move on. I am thankful to him for that.

Giants could have severely altered our draft trajectory
Wes21 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would have laughed at any team dumb enough to trade up for Thibodeaux. It points to one of two things. Either they don't know what they are doing...or they like job security and would have just blamed the coaching staff when the inevitable happens. "He only had 7 sacks again? Wow, that's so weird. Maybe its the coaches and not the player I picked?" -
Let's be honest. Parents pay that kind of money because they can limit their kid's interaction with people who can't afford that type of money. It reminds me of a wealthy buddy of mine (who also went to private school) who would go to a particular club in Detroit that had $20+ drinks. I asked why he would do that. He said "because I know who will NOT be there when the drinks are that expensive." Ouch. If we are going to be a smash mouth team its a good start to have a QB that will literally smash someone in the mouth.

They should have Common go up to announce the pick when its Matt Forte's turn, and just act like he's Matt Forte.

Are there any deeply religious guys in the top 10 that Easterby might be targeting?

Which network do you prefer to watch the draft?
Wes21 replied to trueblade's topic in Carolina Panthers
I used to be a pure NFL Network guy but I find myself going back and forth now. But I'm probably on NFLN about 70% of the time.
