Positional value isn't particularly hard to understand. Unfortunately, a lot of people put it on a pedestal over all else regardless of what's going on on the field. Are you suggesting that we should keep Reddick at probably at least 15m per season solely because he plays EDGE? That might make sense in a 3-4 base with big interior linemen but that's not what defense we run. Our DEs get pushed so far to the outside that it leaves big holes open inside and it's a fundamental issue with our defense that teams have caught on to. It's the main reason our run D sucks. It's a balancing act and we simply don't have the cap space to tie up into Reddick given what we're seeing on the field as of late.

I agree about Reddick 100% and I do not understand the infatuation our fans have with him. Our defense will not function well against the run with him and Burns on the field in their current states. Teams will chip with a rb who usually releases afterwards and then leave in a TE for clean up duty on one of Reddick or Burns; usually switching it up on who it's done on to avoid becoming predictable. This hurts greatly. The difference is that one is 23 years old and Burns will likely improve if we get an nfl caliber staff in here before his rookie deal is up. Keeping both is redundant and we don't have the money to do so anyway. We have essentially 20million dollars this offseaso not accounting for the draft and Reddick would command a large chunk of those leaving us with little to no money left to resign anyone else with. Let YGM step up in his place. I have a feeling that one of Fatt's parting gifts will be a Reddick megadeal that leaves us capstrapped and unable to sign anyone else this coming offseason... that's before we reach on a QB at 6.

I'm more worried about the personnel side of things than anything, though 2022 will also be another lost season if he's the coach. If we bring Rhule back I'm worried that we give Reddick a 18-20m a year megadeal and then have no money to sign anyone else with (generally 10m or so goes to the draft, and we have 28m). Our future gets grimmer every day he remains employed. We still have money clearing next offseason so its not completely unsalvageable and if we act now we won't have to start over again, but I don't know if I have faith in Tepper to act. We could've gave that Robby contract to Stephon Gilmore (maybe a bit more on the money side of things) if we had simply been patient, but we just had to pre-emptively extend him because he played at Temple.

I'd be estatic if we landed him. We need someone who is experienced and can get the most out of the talent we have here, and Harbaugh'd definitely be a guy who could do that. Yeah, i'm not quite sure why some are acting as if an organization that has went 45-67 since firing him is some sort of beacon of competence. Especially at that time, they've improved now (thanks to firing Baalke out of a cannon) but the Niners were a total clownshow for a little bit there. They fired two head coaches after 1 season back to back immediately afterwards. Trent Baalke was largely involved in this power struggle too and was later fired himself because he is one of the worst GMs in football. Got a new job with the Jags, who he has also continued to run into the ground.

We should do a gofundme to get Jay-Z to pound the drum instead of the fire rhule banners or whatnot. It'd be far funnier and just as effective.

Honestly I still think we have some pretty nice young pieces and the early semblance of a core with CMC, Burns, Brown, Chinn, Horn, maybe Moton and YGM. Other good older pieces as well. This I think is reflected in the fact that the team despite having bumbling, non NFL caliber morons on the sidelines (besides Snow imo but he hasnt been hot lately either) isn't getting completely ran off the field. The roster is simply too talented to lose like how the Jaguars did today to the Patriots or like the Skins last week. My main concern is if Rhule's cancerous "culture" has spread too deep into them. We need to get rid of Fatt before he can stunt their development any further and sink us with bad, likely desperate hot seat-influenced personnel decisions. There's still time to salvage it but it's critical that we sh*tcan him before he can do any further damage. If we don't, we may well have to blow it all up again.

Cam has 3 less tds than him on the season in a 3rd of the snaps after learning the playbook on 2 weeks notice when he's not being benched because Fatt has an axe to grind. Oh, and he also hasn't went 20 fuging quarters without scoring. They're not comparable. Cam is and always will be 2x the QB Sam is.

Yeah that was a thing for quite a long time. In the earliest days of pro football the high-end CFB teams actually were better than the NFL teams because Pro Football was still very niche and the income wasnt much different from a normal job, sometimes even less so earlier on so a lot of the top college players didn't end up playing pro. Towards the end though it had become pretty lopsided and the NFL teams were starting to rest their starters. The final game was a complete catasrophe that was cancelled in the third quarter with the Steelers up 24-0 due to lightning, torrential rainfall and the fans invading the field so they just canned the series all together after that. Worth mentioning it was a roster of college all-stars though, not just the best team. So even in the 50s the gap had gotten quite large. But at one point the series was only 8-5-2 in the NFL's favor.

Love Lindenbaum and Araiza. That'd be an ideal draft for me, though I do want to look more into Charles Cross. This is a deep dive and might be a bit homer because Army is my secondary college team, but if we intend on using a fullback or just want a short yardage guy then I wouldn't mind if we looked at Army FB Jakobi Buchanan if he enters this year pending service stuff as a UDFA or super late round throwaway pick. He is is 260 pounds of meat and has the signature Mike Tolbert build. Every time I watch an Army game, they feed him in short yardage situations and it's a guaranteed first and handful of yards. He runs with violence and while his YPC might not wow you it's a very stable YPC and he virtually never loses yards. The guy has went 246 carries without losing a yard in fact. In an ideal world.. -Fire Rhule and drop the HC dominated structure, I wanna see what Fitt and Morgan can do. -Hire Toub, Eberflus, or another good head coach candidate who has preferably been around the game for a while. -Resign Gilmore, Luvu and Cam depending on what he wants. Let Reddick walk, we can't have such small players on both edge spots and don't have the money to bring him and Gilly back. Plus it gives Yetur a shot to step up and our depth is already decent. -Look for a good cheap LB/FS (depending on where the new staff wants to play chinn the most) to compliment Shaq in FA alongside OL depth. -Address the OL in whatever way possible, trade down if a good offer presents itself but if not Lindenbaum or maybe Cross (havent watched him yet) in the draft. Would love Araiza somewhere in the draft too, especially if we go with Toub. Yeah I was a pretty outspoken critic of the Brown pick when it happened but I wholeheartedly agree about being patient with him and a lot of other younger guys. He was playing pretty well earlier in the year (top 10 in DT pass rush win rate for quite a while) and just regressed as the year went on, alongside pretty much the rest of the team. Basically all of our young guys at best plateaued and didn't improve any, at worse noticeably regressed. Our youth still has a lot of talent and I'm not ready to give up on this potential core we have yet; there's a lot of very unique pieces in place and so many of them have issues that are very fixable for an NFL caliber coaching staff.
