Jerry Richardson knew you didn't have to win it all, just some.
onmyown replied to Snake's topic in Carolina Panthers
Over the last 25 years the only thing that separates us from the Jets is one championship game. The panthers won, they lost. But because we ‘appeared’ in the SB and proceeded to lose, our franchises is so much better lol Meanwhile we pulled off an identical history with 10x the talent. -

Being ok moving on very quickly. He will fire Rhule next year, maybe even after this year if results aren’t seen - you can bank on that. When JR hands out a contact, either to a coach or player, he’s not paying a dime more than he has to, Rhule would be here his full contract. That’s one example. Learning takes time. You guys are mad it’s not some sort of 24 hour knee jerk turn around thing. Takes time to see how things work out. Learning actually takes time and periods of fug ups. Everyone claiming and citing all this JR success, you guys realize the franchise history is still in the bottom 1/3 of the NFL. You guys the same knocking teams like the Jets as a worse team when in reality the Panthers resemble them more than any other NFL team? It sounds greats because it’s over 25 years. That’s a LONG time. Compare franchise history with other teams and you’ll see it’s not that great. I respect what Tepper is trying to do but his aspirations are not a one hit wonder lightning in a bottle ordeal. Still need more time. -
this is how firing the OC late season works people, looks just like other scenarios with teams, no decent OC is going to just leave their current team to come over let’s wait until the OC is declared next season to grab the pitchforks, hell for all we know Rhule may not even be here it’s just for name/title sake…the OC duties will ultimately be coming from collaboration not solely fuging Nixon

almost 25 years vs 3 years is literally impossible to compare it’s true JR never cared about consistency, but consistency is also something that is much harder to build/do only a few franchises can say they win regularly every season gonna have to just wait this out…if it takes Tepper half a decade to establish at least a decade of back to back winning, all is good Tepper appears to be learning from his mistakes at least and JR didn’t GOF and by modern standards wasn’t the brightest bulb -
At what point do they just have to bench Brady?

i just can’t help but wonder why if passing up better potential talent and racking up more picks to an absurd level like last year were such good moves, no other GMs really do or have done it -
Entertainment gets a pass, always has and always will. Comedians, music, movies…society is cancelling people outside these arenas (or worse), for saying or displaying things they’re so adamantly against, while at the the same time actually enjoying these very things in their entertainment. It’s not just Hollywood, you think the anti-gun masses have never enjoyed an action flick? Yea, not even close. Hell, how many diehard Panther fans would allow their kid to play football all their lives? I’d bet there is quite a few. And I’m not on a soapbox here, I am not perfect, I am guilty of this myself. Curiosity? Human nature? Some reflection of Psychology? Sociology? I’m sure there is a lot that goes into it.

Panthers' passer rating when targeted leaders (Offense)

hmmm…so trade the replacement of the replacement of the replacement that replaced the replacement for the replacement of the replacement -
Not saying he shouldn’t be charged. I’m saying how about something more productive come of this? I dunno like make it a requirement to teach people about guns, and even better, the specific gun they’re handling, if they’re going to handle them. And in a perfect world, even if they’re not. The majority of people have no clue what pulling the hammer back means in any capacity. Just a recent thought. My ex’s parents bought her a gun for protection two years before I met her. She had never fired it. It was brand new when I messed with it. I took her to the range and taught her. That was a terrifying day. Yes, it was on her to learn about it. That isn’t the point. I’d bet that sums up a lot of people’s reality who are anti gun or not fond of them (not opposing this to be clear). It’s ok to be anti firearm and still realize you need to learn about them for the fact they exist in our reality. I think this point seems to not be understood or supported all that well.

Right. But that doesn’t solve anything or consider the full scope. Saying something happened because someone is ignorant and therefore negligent doesn’t do anything. Ignorance is just that. Some of society reinforces ignorance. That’s the point. That’s the part of the problem. And that shares the blame. No one should think the answer is saying Baldwin should have known better without asking why he did not know better is all I’m saying.
-
Could be ignorance, not negligence. I don’t know his history. Setting politics and feelings about firearms aside let me make an objective statement I have witnessed and experienced again and again and again. A large portion of people fear guns, they have been taught, teach and preach not to use, look at, or handle any firearms. Guns are bad. It’s demonized. And that’s fine no objections. Could be his experience. His prerogative. However if it is, he likely has no clue how to handle a gun or any safety measures. I’d be willing to bet he does not know the cardinal rules. And I’d also be willing to bet no one even offered to teach him and he may not have known to ask. This is a problem. The director or whomever disregarding this is a problem. (Should this be the case) He likely has absolutely no idea clearing a weapon/making sure it’s clear, every time you pick one up, is something that’s universal known among people familiar with firearms…I assume that is where his comment came in.

I was already considering that. Out of curiosity how much do you think a premiere pass rusher and a #1 CB will cost even considering this structure? I’m already assuming Jackson is gone…hopefully by tag and trade. I’d wager at least 20 mil of that 30. And that’s generous. That’s if they’re ok helping the team out. With draft picks and resigning a couple other FA’s we need from the team already, that 30 is gone. Now of course there will be some fat to cut and shaq restructure needs to happen. No way he is worth close to 20 mil. But keep in mind this assumes they roll with Darnold and don’t pay any other qb a dime. This also does not address the oline at all. I don’t think we will be big players in FA at all. Yea…all I’m saying is get ready for another meek off-season and be realistic.
-
After Reddick and Gilmore get paid, we keep a couple other of our own FAs, and sign the draft…I’m not sure exactly what you have left out of 30m…but it most definitely won’t be enough for any kind of splash at. And that’s not even factoring a QB. I have to break it to peeps, I’m not sure where this ‘we have tons of cap’ came from but it’s actually 2023 that is the magic year with tons of cap we can ultimately start looking options. Dumpster diving next year.
-
Well he failed at his own method if that’s what versatility means. The oline doesn’t even just stuck at everything, they’re putrid. a 0.0 PFF rating? And you played most snaps? That’s the same rating as sir purr.

onmyown replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
The offense really doesn’t have much. Moore who I think has some sever motivation problems and is not a 1. Moton checked out after being paid (as will Moore 100%). Anderson who got paid 15m for his 288 yards 3 tds and 12 drops or whatever. No oline, No QB. Just single WR who has the potential to play better than he is. CMC is great but until utilized correctly he isn’t worth it. Plus he’s injured all the time so does it even matter. Scheme is bad sure but there is no talent to be had. -
Fact is this staff has tried to take every short cut and cheat code to success instead of paying their dues during a rebuild and it has so fair failed miserably. That is due to inexperience.

Draft order if the season ended today (pretty weird)
onmyown replied to CRA's topic in Carolina Panthers
Dude chill. The options are very limited. What route you trying to go? Signing some bridge QB for a one lame duck season and drafting a QB to sit for a year then investing high picks in an oline in 2023 seems legit to me. Unless we do all of the above except reverse and wait for 2023 for a qb and invest in oline now but I mean the Panthers have ONE pick in the top 150. But either way, as shitty as the 2022 qb class is next year I feel someone is going to work out and at a great value too. -
I personally know the family. I asked a couple days ago because I was curious, apparently he took summer classes and extra credits (short classes), got ahead, and will be graduating soon. He’s coming for the draft. Great, supportive family. I am rooting for him big time.

So much info and food for thought. All I know is no more college coaches. Whenever I see a thread like this from Mr. Scot, before opening it I grab a nice glass of scotch or bourbon and start googling. These are the quality threads this place need, it’d take me weeks to find out all this stuff and make a thread if it was even possible. I doubt he even uses google…prolly writes it up on the toilet

You Don't Know What You Got Till It's Gone
onmyown replied to Catsfan69's topic in Carolina Panthers
You cannot underestimate the talent he had. The 2015 season for example I remember very fondly as any Panther fan would. It was pure talent overcoming ineffective coaching/scheming time and time again, game after game. A lot of that was Shula, but that team was so good it wasn’t only defeating the opponents, often times it was defeating its own coaching. -
You Don't Know What You Got Till It's Gone
onmyown replied to Catsfan69's topic in Carolina Panthers
There are very very few HCs that go beyond 10 years with one team, it’s almost unheard of. And it certainly does not consist of coaches not being able to win back to back season or who average 8 wins a season over that span with a team full of talent. Ron does best when his back is against the wall and he is forced to make moves. Aka injured starters, losing record etc. Notice once the WFT started losing he started taking big risks in games. I think he goes for it on 4th more than any other HC, or is in top 5. Ron has grit. He will rally poor talent. He will make anyone soft tougher, he won’t have a really poo 1-2 win season. However when he has choices, when he has options, and he must evaluate…he will fail. He cannot and will not adapt when his way does not work. His and Fox’s mantra has always been screw mismatches, schemes, or attacking vulnerabilities. It’s 1v1, man vs. man. Period. No matter what. Example: Remmers in the Super Bowl. And let the best man win, and if he’ll lose, it’ll be his way. This will breed mediocre success and, with the right personal, it can even go pretty far. Hell in the 90s, I think he would easily be a SB winning coach. However today there are two problems with that model, the inability to adapt. First there is no consistency. It won’t hold up over a period of time. Second, players now are different as are coaches. They adapt and scheme, analytics and all that. They are playing positions differently. If you aren’t able to adapt and utilize the modern talent of players like Cam, CMC, or even Luke (towards the end of his career in the 3-4), aren’t able to evaluate talent on the sidelines but instead lazily go for heart of a player, ‘lose my way’ path of evaluating, instead trying to foster/come up with ideas for new talent, it will never be sustainable. All that said, in summary, he is a good ‘rollercoaster’ coach and with the right personnel, in the right circumstance, with his back up against the wall. Living and dying by the sword will bring some success, no absolute failures, and a mass amount of mediocrity. -
CMC’s talent was absolutely worth a top pick. They way he was planned on being used was NOT. Let’s just all imagine for a minute and think about how successful coaches such as Reid, McVay, Belicheck and Payton would utilize a player like CMC, who has already shown to be an elite receiving threat. There is not a snowballs chance in hell those intuitive coaches take CMC and premiere him as a run between the tackles player. They would have had another dime a dozen RB doing that. Those coaches would’ve had him training in the slot and backfield receiving since day 1, with backfield rushing plays lightly sprinkled in utilizing his finest skills - agility and YAC. Aka Welker, except better potential imo. And that’s saying a lot. The Panther’s dinosaur coaches had zero ability or innovation to do this or even attempt it. Same concept with Cam. Again, another RB could’ve been getting those tough yards, not your franchise QB. It’s not Fournette vs CMC because they are completely different players. If you are dumb enough to use them the same or look at them the same you really have no business analyzing the picks at all. For this inept franchise the pick and extension was certainley a waste.
