Official* - Manny Pacquiao v. Floyd Mayweather - May 2, 2015
Proudiddy replied to h0llywood's topic in Huddle Lounge
Also, was wondering if anyone watched the Jennings/Klitschko fight? Jennings is amazing! Only 6 years fighting and he won rounds against Klitschko... I was hoping for a rematch, as I think Wilder already ruined his chances against him after agreeing to spar with him. Also hyped for the upcoming Golovkin fight... That dude is a beast, that we haven't seen the likes of since tyson in his prime, he is also hilarious - "What did you see in there from your opponent Triple G?" "Uhh, he was a good boy, but I like to bring major drama show. I fight like Mexican. But, he's a good boy." "Thank you, Triple G." -

Man, I kept wondering where we were going to have a thread for this at? lol... Then i found there already was one. People can say what they want... Honestly, boxing might be my 3rd favorite sport behind football and basketball. I don't know all of the rankings and such, nor do I expect anyone except commentators who are paid to cover it, know it. That's one of the problems with boxing, the utter confusion and disorganization of it all. That being said, it is a beautiful and yet, violent sport. I love it. I watch as much as I can, anywhere I can. ESPN2's FNF, HBO, Showtime, Foxsports' Goldenboy promotions, etc. If I wasn't already 30, I would want to find a ring somewhere and get into it myself, lol. Anyway, there are so many good fighters out there, the problem is the promotion of the sport and all he hands in the cookie jar, so to speak... So many of them aren't known like they should be, like say, if it was the 80s, these guys would be superstars. That's why I'm happy they started those Premier Boxing Nights on NBC, CBS, and other network channels with legit boxers in primetime. The sport needs exposure like it used to get, and it would easily surpass MMA again. All that being said, I have no idea who I want to win... I like each guy for different reasons... I like Floyd for his brashness, cockiness, being an asshole, and his unorthodox defensive-fighting style. I like Manny for his humility, his faith, his heart, and his workrate in he ring... He loves to put pressure on guys and just keeps coming. So, it's a tough call... I think it's one of those things where I won't really know until they get in the ring. Part of me is hoping for Money to break that longest-undefeated streak, but then another part of me is hoping he gets beat and doesn't reach it and it makes him hungrier. He's good for the sport... As you can see from all of this surrounding hype. I'll be watching at my cousin's house, as he is a diehard Money fan and has bought all of his PPVs for as long as I can remember. -
Cam has been an excellent deep ball passer since college... IN fact, it was one of his best attributes coming into the league, and it has remained so, despite people questioning his mechanics and consistency. Problem is, our franchise has neglected reciever for years, and when we have addressed it, it's usually in the face of huge subtractions aka we have hung him out to dry with a shitty receiving unit. Hopefully, things change after this draft... Ginn should help too.

I could see him going for a 5th or lower... But, we won't even inquire about him because he isn't a boy scout. -
Yes we should, but we won't. Gettleman has already basically ruled him out in a general sense... Sadly. But, good thing we have outstanding citizens with equal receiving talent like Cotchery and Bersin.
-
You hater. How dare you cheapen the golden KB with your wizardry and witchcraft! Speaking of improving our already spectacularly immaculate WR corps! *gasp*

LOL but that's what I'm saying... People are reading what they want to out of this because of these dichotomies the board cooks up, where you are only one side or the other and no in between... I made it clear in my first post, this isn't about Nicks. My issue was missing or just not trying with every WR worth a crap outside of Jennings, which is arguable we legitimately even tried there (although I don't think he was worth 4 mil per either). Again, I could give a poo less about Nicks, individually... My issue is completely neglecting the WR position prior to the draft for several consecutive years when that position from top to bottom, SUCKS. Simple as that... Also, Kevin Benjamin may have put up some impressive numbers, but let's not ignore the fact that his 1k yard season happened in an era of the FRIENDLIEST WR rules ever. And look at all of the other impressive numbers put up by rookie WRs last season. How many of them dropped multiple wide open TD catches and were tied for the league lead in drops (with such few targets, as others have pointed out)? I'm not saying he sucks... Not anywhere close to saying that. He's good, but wildly inconsistent and unreliable, right now. I also think he could be so much more effective with another talented WR, or two, out there to help take some of the attention away from him as our only threat currently at WR. But, no use in continuing to beat this dead horse... I've been very clear about my issue, and it keeps getting misconstrued. I think WR should be addressed with something other than an unknown commodity in a rookie. Oh well...

Scot, we've had the same discussion/argument everytime WR has come up. I don't overreact to much, and yet, everytime we run into the WR issue, I become the huddle caricature of overreaction over every issue, simply because I don't agree with the status quo, specifically about WR. Apparently we can't discuss points of disagreement without calling people pathetic, accusing them of bitching and moaning, and then grouping them in with tons of casual fan-idiots because they're saying something you don't agree with.
-
You used "you're" followed by an insulting adjective. That makes it both personal and an attack. I stated my opinion. You chose to put on your armor and take it personally. I came in this thread talking about football and related personnel. Now, here we are discussing you talking about me.
-
Understandable, but it was quoting his post unfairly referring directly to me as the huddle torch bearer for posting overreaction.

Feel free to read my posts on the Oher signing, my opinion of Remmers going into next season, as well as my musings on the Ginn, Coleman, and Tillman signings. I have been nothing but complimentary to gettleman and think all of those signings were PERFECT. I love them. I have not complained about any other position BUT WR since this offseason began, lol. But have fun with this...

You are unbelievable, and not very funny.

Well then that's where we disagree, as of right now. Nothing I said was hyperbolic... He is gigantic. He isn't a blazer. And he was tied for the league lead in drops. That isn't an ideal #1. Could he be a #1? Yes. But he isn't, imo, right now. I also expect him to get better, but how much does it matter of he's still got Cotchery lining up on the other side of the field? How horrible of me to want weapons for our QB and see him have an unprecedented level of success? I never said KB was worthless, I said he was unreliable and overrated by this board, to this point. I believe he is ultimately a #2, possibly a #1, but that's if he fixes the drop issues, AND, THIS IS A BIG AND... HE GETS A VIABLE RECIVING THREAT TO ACCOMPANY HIM AT WR. Olsen is great, but he generally occupies the middle of the field (a safety/lb), it still allows defense to cheat coverage to one side or the other.
-
Point blank, scot. Is he a RELIABLE #1, RIGHT NOW? Yes or no?
-
Proudiddy-hating, gettleman-worship circle jerk phase, initiated.
-
I'm just stating my opinion of gentleman's team-building philosophy... Not a personal attack, and yet some of you at like I just spit in your dad's face. Chill out. And Thomas, if you can't have an adult conversation without insulting someone, over people and things you personally don't know, then I have to say, no, my good sir... You are pathetic.
-
I don't disagree with that at all. I agree he has that potential, but the key being, he isn't that yet, and he won't be until we have an actual #1 for him to compliment. That is another source of contention I have with gentleman's approach to WR. Remember last season how he signed all those scrubs and then told us they would make up for losses as a unit? Lol... It doesn't work like that. You need a legit #1 and #2, not bunch of slot guys and #4s taking turns lining up in different spots and distributing the ball in the same fashion (unless you're the patriots).
-
And that may be, but personally, fwiw, I don't see this class as deep/talented as last year's. Additionally, I don't see us investing that heavily in WR in the draft. Gettleman himself has said FA is there to fill needs so you won't have any come draft time and can take the BPA. We have the weakest, thinnest WR corps in the NFL and yet we have signed what, 5 defensive backs this offseason? Then WR, we signed Boykin and Ginn, lol. I think he has demonstrated what positions were 'of need', and WR wasn't one of them to this point. Yes, we still have the draft, but I don't expect us to target WR. I just don't think Gettleman thinks it is a position of importance in how he wants the team to play, whereas I think the more talent/options you have at each position, the better your team is, regardless of how they're utilized.
-
Both have been vastly overrated by most on this board so far. Kelvin is gigantic and slow, with a serious case of dropsies. Philly is small, not as fast as people think, and injury prone. It is very likely that Philly is a career #3 and KB has yet to prove he's even a reliable #2. Yet, everyone here have deemed them the #1 and #2... That's not acceptable. Both could be great and in more appropriate roles if they had more talent around them, specifically a legit #1 or #2 who has proven themselves already (e.g.,Jennings, Moore, Nicks, Britt, even Crabtree). But what am I talking about? WR was taken care of as soon as we signed all-world Jarrett Boykin and his blazing speed.
-
And that alone wouldn't bother me... The fact that any WR worth his salt has walked out of here without signing a contract for the last two offseasons at our weakest position does. GREATLY.
-
Wow... Gettleman really doesn't give a poo about WR, lol. I might finally try alcohol this year if we go into the season with Cotchery at #2 again. edit: and this isn't about Nicks, it's that we have continued to stack at positions of strength and continued to ignore WR. AGAIN, Ginn isn't a guy to be counted on as A WR, he is a returner.
-
Lol fug the Cowboys. But really, fug Goodell. What a bitch... Coincidence that he has Hardy coming back against us? I think not. I definitely think Hardy got screwed in this whole thing by us and the league... But, I also think this will dramatically get reduced.

I hope it was a two-year deal. This signing is so good that it made me momentarily forgot about not addressing WR yet.
