Final cuts: Surprise makes and cuts for the 53 man roster
Proudiddy replied to 45catfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree about CB. Melvin is over 30, and I didnt see any marked advantage with him out there compared to our young guys, so you gotta go with youth/potential. -
Deshaun maybe to the PANTHERS?!?! What?!!

That willpa guy that broke it says it was us that dropped out. So, yes. -

Per Schefty. I know there was some interest here on the huddle. Seems like Sirianni (sp?) has never really been on board with Hurts. Interesting to see what happens.

Horrible to say, but I love watching the punt team!
Proudiddy replied to cardiackat88.'s topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, I remember the early reports when we brought him in last year about him shanking one in the parking lot, but he has been lights out. He is 10x better than Palardy ever was. Big leg, and just has a perfect feel for way to place them... the way he got that punt to check up perfectly at the 1. The dude is a 100% certified UNIT. -
That mf is filthy. Rhule better quit playing.

Daley, Brown, and Christensen need to be out there. Period.

So... Sam Darnold. Are you encouraged or discouraged
Proudiddy replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
The last drive, I saw promise, so ultimately it left me encouraged. But only slightly. I'm hoping he can hold onto that momentum and it leads him to reaching his full potential here... but, as I said in the other thread, the line wasn't terrible while he was in, and yet, he had some very Clausen-like, panic-induced moments early. Those two extremes bother me, but I feel like watching that last drive, if he can string some great plays and drives together, I think it could change his entire career trajectory once he feels the confidence that he can and is making plays. -
He finished on a high note, and left me hopeful he may have gotten in his bag and found a rhythm moving forward... Robby was happy with it. But, I'm ngl, the OL really wasn't all that bad except for Elflein, and yet, Sam had some very Clausen-like moments early. So, although I'm encouraged by the final drive, the extremes I saw from some of the panic stuff he did earlier is troubling.

I agree.. but if they can play, they can play. Pretty sure thats gonna be taken care of on final cuts. I expect maybe 5 or less on the active 53. Off the top of my head, Reddick is a baller no matter where he played, and I really like Sam Franklin's potential. Other than that, most of his other college guys can gtfo.

It sure does feel good to finally have a GM who sees a weakness, like we do, and he goes out and gets a guy to fix it or just gets rid of the weakness for value. It is so refreshing to have a guy who, when national reports come out about a player being available that could improve our team, we know will have us in the mix for him. I dont think we've ever been one of those teams. Our previous GMs were so incestuous/neptotistic they rarely ever looked for outside help and it feels ike even if they did, players felt we were such a poorly run organization it would hardly ever pan out. Fit is different. Tepper needs to slide his brass balls statue over to Fit's office.

Teddy Bridgewater named starter over Drew Lock
Proudiddy replied to @bonafidebanter's topic in Carolina Panthers
Good for him. Couldn't be me. Again, I was a bit of a fan of Teddy from afar since college bc he was an easy guy to pull for, but I never would've wanted him as our QB due to his obvious and glaring shortcomings. I felt that way even before his injury. That being said, I'm not gonna lie, that could end up being a great gig for him because I always envisioned thats really the only kind of team he would be ideal for - a team with a great, aggressive defense who wins games for them, so the only thing the QB has to do is play it safe and not turn the ball over. It's why I never understood why he didn't take the job with Chicago last year until we found out it was bc they didn't hand him the starting role. Now, sorry to say, although I wish Teddy well, I wish the Broncos nothing but the worst and hope their franchise burns in the eternal flames of professional football mediocrity for the rest of their existence. -

Add another name to the list of Jet’s for players out for the year
Proudiddy replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Considering our history in situations like this, I dont like the way this is setting up at all. Hope Curry is back 100% soon. -
I like how they purposely made him sound like a puss, "he's out because someone stepped on his wittle foot." The fact they even shared that specifically and then he named JCJ the starter seems like Rhule is a little bit over Perryman at this point, and I don't blame him. So am I. Proud of JCJ. Always thought he showed promise and potential since he was a rookie and he really looked good last year as well... now add in that he apparently is constantly in the film room and has been identified as a leader, you gotta love it. He's gonna really impress this year.

I just meant in terms of him struggling early. It obviously is not the final word on his career, I expect he'll still be good. Just saying I'm surprised that 1) they switched him to RT, and 2) that he is struggling at all. Just didn't expect it, but he's got plenty of time.

Yahoo Sports simulates the 2021 season via Madden
Proudiddy replied to joemac's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wow. Darnold is like a 70 overall lol. I will definitely take that result though (except we win the Super Bowl instead of losing). To be fair though, their simulation had Foles winning the Super Bowl last season. -
Damn. I'm usually proud of my eye for talent, and to be fair, I didnt watch a ton of stuff on him prior to the draft, but I felt certain he was the safest pick out there. His stats on not giving up a sack were just incredible... this is surprising.

J/k. I appreciate him being in the stands with the fans, but, I also wonder why he isn't enjoying the game in a more official capacity? And also, in the Buffalo pics he looked pretty close to his playing weight - maybe a little less. In this one, I wasn't sure if it was him bc he looked just like him, but he looks a lot smaller in this pic. But, as someone posted the IG story above, it clearly is him.

He's scouting for Buffalo!

Valid counterpoints, but I disagree with you. On the first point, I did initially say that it appeared we approached the goalline situation how we did bc they didn't trust Darnold. It was short-sighted and said in frustration of the moment. But, I also have cited since TC how the best coaches use preseason for situational evaluation and execution rather than final outcomes. I even cited that here as we got further into the discussion. I also think I read after the fact, that Rhule wanted us to use that situation to execute on the line and see if we could pound the ball in. Ok, thats fine... but, I stand by my assertion that the fact that they limited his reps and snaps in the games has to do with them feeling uneasy about his readiness. I do think they are trying to protect him mentally, as well as physically. No, coaches shouldn't be making decisions based off public perception, but it matters. The top coaches in the league have held joint practices AND played their starters in both games so far. Rhule has his own style, but I legitimately think they were trying to limit Sam's exposure. And to your second point, I agree that more trust usually results in less preseason snaps, but again, as I mentioned in my previous posts here, that couldn't be further from the truth in Sam's case, and that is fairly obvious. They might trust him to some degree, but it's because they have to... they have no other option they believe can legitimately take them where they want to go on the roster. But he hasn't earned that trust yet. A new guy, on a new team, in a new offense after pretty much being considered a bust three years into his career - that guy isn't sitting because his reputation speaks for itself. Again, I believe it was to limit his exposure while trying to give him the entirety of TC and the first two weeks of preseason to hopefully get more comfortable in what he was doing before the final game. And I maintain that you're better off giving him more reps in live games, but this is the approach Rhule has chosen.

To your first quote, my bad... didn't see the "not." But the point remains the same in regards to CMC. You were presenting that simply as an argument to further your opinion about Darnold not playing, and it doesn't work for all of the reasons I previously mentioned. I've also mentioned earlier in TC elsewhere on the forums that the best coaches (i.e. Belichick) use the preseason to practice situational football and give their guys reps, especially in different circumstances. They use it less as a gauge of how good their team is with less concern about the outcome, and more as an opportunity to see how they handle those situations, while giving them more chances to evaluate talent. I didnt say play Darnold because preseason football outcomes matter or because it's important for that reason. It's important because it's more reps than he would otherwise get in just joint practices, in different situations... and as the new guy leading this offense, more reps do indeed matter. And they may run more of a base scheme in preseason, but the throws, and the routes, the timing obviously all translate. And yes, I as a fan, would love to have seen more of that instead of relying on the 10 tweets a day we got with very little detail each day of TC. And again, as CRA pointed out previously in this thread, Belichick just did exactly what I'm advocating for with his team... but if you want to trust Rhule's approach over Belichick's, then more power to you. And again, saying he'd be throwing to 5th and 6th stringers is you just being purpose obtuse to obfuscate the whole point I was making to begin with, which was a very simple one... More reps matter. Period.
