Florida has no state income tax. Sales tax and such is higher, but yeah... -
Panthers signing FA WR Devin Smith to the practice squad

Really liked him coming out of Ohio St. Surprised he is still hanging on after washing out from NY. Also, who cares. Our season is over. -

Damn. I'm really starting to think Rhule is hurting us in being able to attract available talent here. -

I'm convinced it's the unprofessionalism and collegial vibe beginning and ending with Rhule. I think his hire is really gonna end up costing us more than we can currently imagine. -

Welp, although it would have been dramatic (and possibly traumatic) to acquire him, it was the only thing that gave me hope and excitement for our future - because again, if you are a QB away, you are a team away. And we are a QB away, and likely staring down the barrel of 1 or 2 wins out of the remaining schedule with Darnold at the helm. And as much as I like PJ for what he is, he won't be able to do much better with this trainwreck. Also, I hope we didn't back out due to the PR hit. Again, if he really targeted and assaulted women he is an absolute piece of poo, but if it happened to be consensual and this was just drummed up by McNair's shitbag self with his lawyer friend to dig up dirt on a weird kink/fetish to tank his value, then I will be fuging pissed. Oh, and we better not trade any other picks for QBs if we're out on Watson. fug Tua's sorry ass. Just tank the season. -

Damn. I've been tough on Brady, and for good reasons, and consider myself fairly aware and astute when watching plays and the concepts they're attempting, but I did not see DJ until you just pointed that out. Live, Darnold's decision and pass was just so fuging bad, I didnt see anything but a clusterfug and had no idea what he was looking at, and that was all I was fixated on. But, seeing this play, and a few others like it, much like Teddy missing DJ for countless wide-open yards and TDs last season, it appears our QBs for two consecutive years aversion to throwing deep has severely hindered our offense... and this version with Sam is even worse because although he and Teddy share the deep ball aversion, Sam lacks the efficiency that Teddy had going for him on everything intermediate and underneath. That's the longhand version of saying, "this guy sucks." All that being said, I still see a lot of red flags with Brady's offense and playcalling, but seeing this and similar plays, it really illuminates that this is the perfect storm for complementary poo play offensively... sometimes the call is there, and its the perfect call, but we don't have the right guy pulling the trigger. Then on other plays, the call sucks, and the players are doomed from the start.

If you're defense of Darnold is, at it's core, a plea to keep him over pursuing Watson due to the cost of acquiring him, then while I understand it, I don't agree with it. Darnold was on a trial run, and not only has he had progressively abysmal showings now, but the coaching staff's collective seat that vouched for him and brought him in is broiling hot... and so is Tepper's temper at this point. Reason likely went out the window a couple of weeks ago. And while I dont want to give up more than maybe 1 player out of this deal and 2 first rounders, I understand the cost of acquiring a proven franchise QB isn't cheap. I dont like having to make the deal, but the fact of the matter is, if you don't have a franchise QB, you aren't winning in this league, and many teams have spent years wasting draft picks trying to find that guy, whereas, if we deal for Watson, at the very least we know we've secured one. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding Sam, including how bad the OL and the offensive coaching is, he just doesn't have the ability to overcome it. Watson does. And that's the only reason I am interested to see what the cost is to acquire Watson. Again, I don't like it, but do you trust this staff to properly evaluate college QBs after what they've shown thus far with established pro QBs? And Tepper doesn't come from a world of patience, unless there is a long play for far greater gains at the finish line... in the NFL the finish line is every February, and if you don't do all you can to improve with guaranteed, proven assets while hitting on the unknown commodities, you risk never realizing those gains at all. He wants to win now, and Darnold doesn't offer that possibility.

Yup, and thats the biggest problem. I'm not going to include Fitterer in that group yet, but I mainly place the blame on Rhule, as he was a big proponent of it with reports saying he liked him since he had interviewed with the Jets years back. And he also was a huge supporter of dumping Cam and getting Teddy in here, which didn't work out either. So, it's really starting to look like it's an issue with this staff's ability to pick a QB and run a system that they can thrive in - and that goes on Rhule and Brady. That is also why, by no fault of his own, Sam was doomed from the start. If you have a QB who has struggled with pressure throughout his career, you have to be able to scheme around it, and we haven't and apparently can't. It is a total and complete failure by the staff and Darnold will have to bear the brunt of their ineptitude. So did he get a fair shake? No. Do I think he potentially is a good, top 15 QB even in the most ideal of situations? No.

Sam had no leeway to regress like he has based off of his reputation and history in the league prior to coming here. Most knowledgeable football fans had already written him off, both because of his history and because reclamation projects rarely ever work out. It's just the way it is. I see him projecting out from here as like a Blaine Gabbert, with best case scenario being like a Tommy Maddox, but I don't think that'll be likely whatsoever, and whatever he becomes, it won't be here.

Same. My life changed. I, all of 9 years old, fell madly in love with a lifelong abusive mistress wearing black and blue.

Yeah, Tua is not an option for me. He at best is a career backup, so if we miss out on Watson, I'd rather just let PJ start and address QB in the offseason again.
-
You think Burns is included? I hope not. I like Donte, too, but I think with the additions of Horn, Henderson, Gilmore, and Taylor, he is expendable now. I know the earlier rumors were that they wanted defensive starters, and if that's the case, I really hope we come out of it with Derrick Brown, Burns, Chinn, Horn and hopefully Reddick still intact.

I'll take a staff with some internal bickering over one that is budding with the same division while also demonstrating every Sunday they have no idea what they're doing on schematically or strategically. Miami's offensive struggles are also almost entirely tied to Tua, which has negatively affected them in the other two areas of the game as well.
-
Same poo they did with Teddy. Which is why Teddy picked us over a potentially much better fit for him in Chicago. And I agree, if we were gonna get Minshew, it should've been done in the offseason to allow for a legit QB competition in camp. And for the record, I think Minshew is and always has been a pro QB, which is more than I can say for Darnold.
-
I have a feeling it comes down to Watson's preference and I think that preference will be Miami. If I'm an MVP caliber QB, irrespective of off-field happenings, Flores seems much more proven to this point, and promising as a coach long-term, plus it's Miami. Our staff looks like a dysfunctional train wreck right now, and that can't be appealing to prospective players in the least.

I think Chinn is gonna be a great safety. I think he is in the Kam Chancellor mold, but having some semblance of LB play in front of him would help. Going into last week, he was our leading tackler, and he has made plays in coverage although he has missed some as well... I think he's growing into it. -
I'm with you. And I still have always found it too coincidental that all of these allegations popped up after he demanded the trade and they were sought out, presented, and represented by the McNairs' neighbor who also happens to have a sketchy history as a scumbag, money-chasing lawyer. I also recognize it's awfully troubling that a guy sought out 20 different "massage therapists," for the same service. Again, a very unique situation here.

No, not saved... but I do believe having an entire offense of playmakers that went between the 1st and 2nd rounds certainly made him look a lot better than he is. No coincidence Ogeron was dismissed possibly quicker than any other head coach after winning a championship in the modern era, either... I just think they had a ton of great NFL talent that carried them. And all that I do know is, Brady is not an NFL coach or coordinator at this point in his career. And I say that as possibly his biggest advocate before we hired him... it's just surprising because from what I read, he really did make the majority of their calls that really mattered there, but I guess the talent discrepancy was just that big in LSU's favor.

Rapoport believes Watson will be traded before the deadline
Proudiddy replied to t96's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wtf??? I didn't say or imply Tepper would pay off the accusers. Did you not see the word "legally"? I meant as in helping Watson with his legal defense, I wasn't even thinking about paying anyone off, but legal/civil settlements are also a legal means of resolution in cases like this. And sorry I spoke down on your heroes, apparently... even though I laid out numerous examples of the NFL and many of their team owners being completely and willfully ignorant of morality if it gets in their way of winning and profits. And Tepper also made a statement when he bought the team in the wake of the JR scandal that he would not tolerate sexual violence or assault in any fashion being associated with this organization - and now look at us. Get off your high horse and save it. Facts and history are on my side on this argument, and it proves the NFL is a scum organization. And maybe you wouldn't be so offended if you read what was typed instead of inferring what you want out of it.
