Trade: Panthers Acquire Ihmir Smith-Marsette from Chiefs

Yeah, but as a nickel he essentially is more an extra LB or S versus a legit corner. -

I honestly think this could mean we might be looking fir a replacement to Blackshear as well. I thought I liked what I saw from him last season in limited action, but he did not impress me much this preseason. -

https://www.google.com/amp/s/sports.yahoo.com/amphtml/vikings-receiver-ihmir-smith-marsette-234700983.html “You can get some matchups sometimes,” offensive coordinator Wes Phillips said. “You hear defenses when there’s a three-receiver set, they’re calling out, ‘Hey, they’ve got speed at three.’ Because in certain coverages, split-safety coverages, some teams are asking that (middle linebacker) to carry (the No. 3 receiver) vertical.” That’s where Smith-Marsette might be able to do some damage. You know what they say about speed. “He’s able to stretch the defenses (and) put that vertical push on defenders to get them scared of his speed,” Osborn said. “He’s just a really dangerous weapon for us to have on offense.” That’s not the only thing Osborn has noticed about Smith-Marsette. “His route-running has got a lot better,” Osborn said. “He’s worked on that, and we can see it out here. He looks good.” Asked about his growth since last season, Smith-Marsette credited fellow receivers Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. He said he’s been trying to be a sponge as much as possible. It appears to be paying off. -

Also, say what you want about Fitt, but this is the part I love about him and why I really hope his picks ultimately pan out and he's part of the hand that rights this ship now... the dude isn't short on excitement. He's always looking for a deal snd ones like this, Gilmore, and Laviska are the ones I really love. -

Quick math. Dude has a 33% TD rate on receptions. Sign me up. In all seriousness, his stats indicate he's explosive. -
Damn what did Thielen ever do to him? Didn't JT play for the Vikings? Were they teammates?

This is why I have always said, I would much rather pay a little extra going into the final contract year than wait for it to play out. Odds are the market continues to rise the following year and what you overpaid actually settles to an acceptable amount compared to where the avg salary of the top guys adjusts to that following year. So even if they have a subpar year but they're a good player, it's a good deal. I don't expect a drop-off from Burns, as I think he's on the rise, regardless... but if we wait? It's always gonna cost more. Always has.

Wanted Howell over the other guys when they started falling in the draft... And again, love Ron the man, but the coach? That is the kind of poo that ultimately ran Cam into the ground. It's just like zero awareness and so inefficient... it's like he spends ZERO energy and effort scouting his own offense and if he finds something that is passable he just rides it until the wheels fall off. And that admitting he didn't know they were still in playoff contention theough that last game last season - I was legit surprised they brought him back. I was sure he was gonna get canned for that.
-
Agreed. But, I don't think it's coincidental he only really blew up like he did with us and can't stick anywhere else... he clearly is talented, but he excels in a specific type of system - like the one we ran once Wilks took over last season. And tbh, I don't know that any of us really know what kind of system we're planning to run here this year under Reich/Brown, considering they were also experimenting with it dueing the preseason. Gonna be interesting... but I loved me some Foreman.

I would be interested in bringing him back. Haven't seen much of him since he was here, but I loved the pick, and I remember he got scooped up quick last year from us.

Regardless or how it looks, was searching on the page for the amount of real gold it has in it to justify spending almost $600 on that piece of poo, and alas, it has absolutely zero mention of any. What the fug are they smoking? -
I dont want to write him off yet, but I agree... I didn't see much of him in college, just the draft profile and then "highlights" and such, and I just felt way underwhelmed. Then in the games he was all but invisible most of the time. And the Mathieu comps were on the draft profiles I think on ESPN or NFLN, and when I first heard it, I was thinking w head a steal, and then I saw his film and was like, "wtf were they looking at?" I think most of it came from the size and versatility, but I didn't see it in the physicality or ability at all.
-
It'd hard to find guys at his size with his traits, but considering that he just doesn't seem to show up much. I think it's telling how early we saw Barno in games and how late Brandon Smith ended up in there most of the time. Weirdly enough, I thought Smith looked good when given the opportunities last season, but whenever I saw him this preseason, he seemed to get "out-physicaled."
-
I know Jammie was comped to Honey Badger coming out, but tbh, most of the clips I saw of him and then the limited snaps I saw of him in the preseason, I just didn't see it, or much of anything else. Didn't flash much, IMO. But, draft picks, if they show any promise, tend to get a little more consideration, at least in their rookie year, so I'm not sure how that will work. I honestly think Rowe has a good chance to make it bc he has more size and is proven versatile, even though he had a few bad plays in the preseason. IIRC, we signed him pretty early in FA too, so they must've thought pretty highly of him even on a 1 yr deal, but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets cut either, so I just said a whole lot of nothing lol. Franklin is a lock. And I'm pretty certain Mays and Jensen make it.

Damn. Cam Peoples may have the saddest nfl career story arc I've ever seen. First carry fumble, last touch a fumble through the end zone on what was believed to be TD that is then overturned to a touch back and possession awarded to the opponent. Damn, what a way to go out. -
