Official Cleveland Browns at Carolina Panthers Gameday Thread

Awww man... I didn't know this was a CBS game until now. I hate CBS games. Oh well, "new year, new me" as the basic bitches would say. -
Feng shui, my brother. If it means anything, my wife and I just completely got rid of all of our old furniture and replaced it with some really nice new furniture as well. Out with the old/bad energy, in with the new. Let's hope Rhule is on the the same wave.

Just to be clear, bc I haven't kept up really well since the gameday rules have changed... but did we have to move anyone off the 53 to move Mosby up from the PS? Or are we allowed to move up one of those guys each week without a corresponding move?
-
I'm not panicking, but I don't like it. We all already felt the WR room was quite full before we went out and got him. I hope it is more because he came on late and we likely were already along quite a bit in prepping for the Browns when we acquired him... but still, I thought his versatility would ensure he would be active. It's clear we like him because we traded for him... I just hope it isn't more of Rhule's "you gotta pretend you beat my guy first" stuff.

The RTs out is going to be quite the measuring stick for the new guys stepping up in Reddick's departure. Excited to see it. We GOT to eat today.
-
My thoughts, exactly.
-
I truly believe McAdoo and Wilks can and do command a room. I've thought about this scenario quite often. But, I do think it's entirely possible that a college lifer could figure it out as an NFL HC by his 3rd year, but considering the things we're still seeing from Rhule in the things that he controls, I don't find it likely, AT ALL. But, I'm trying not to think about him so I can actually enjoy the games.

Good enough for me. That humidity is prolly gonna be up there though... I think that should play in our favor.
-
Yes! That's what it was. I had those two conflicting memories in my head about it being highly rated at some point, but the particular incident after it was resodded stood out because I remember seeing the b-roll of the grounds crew trying to fix it and how bad it looked.

Week 1 General Discussions - Talk to me about the Browns

Yikes -
I really hope the rain is calmed down so Baker can sling it. Pause.
-
I want it back natural, but fwiw, didn't we have one of the worst regarded fields back when it was a few years ago? Like I remember there being a game after a huge rain spell and players were pretty unhappy as there were issues with it draining and the and coming up in huge chunks during the game.

I wanna know where the people were that came at me when I called Rhule out for this garbage when it was clear he was pushing for his guy Elflein? I raged because it was the same garbage he's done since hes been here. And all these know-it-alls came out of the woodwork to tell me "if I had been following along" I would've known they were really just rotating Boze and Elf with the QBs they were likely to work with, implying it lined up with Baker/Boze and Darnold/Elf. Well, well, well, look at us now. SSDD. Bozeman goes from a multi-year starter on one of the best OLs in the league last year to sitting behind fuging Pat Turnstile Elflein, who didn't even start to start the year last season on one of the league's worst OLs. Again, it's Rhule trying to show everyone he's the smartest guy in the room. And if I'm not mistaken, I thought I read or heard last week that Bozeman was already recovered then... so this isn't about the injury. What a fuging idiot.

Welp... Get ready D'Onta. You're about to have a career year, big dog!
-
I like McVay and a couple of guys on the Rams, but I like more players/staff with the Panthers North, err, I mean Bills. So, I'm hoping they stomp the Rams tonight, but not really moved either way.
-
The difference between 28 and 38 years old is quite the fuging canyon.

Not that I out a ton of weight in these picks either way, but I can't knock him for that one either... I have a feeling LA is going to have quite the championship hangover. OBJ is still a FA. Von left. And apparently Stafford is dealing with an injury that affects his ability to throw. It has all the makings of a team struggling to defend their title. While I don't know that Lance is going to blow people away, they are always a well-constructed and well-coached team. Seattle is going to be garbage, and I think AZ will be their only real comp down the stretch, so I could see it.

I still am I RA guy, especially with a QB who can hit him consistently over the top now and allow him to play to his strengths, so I wouldn't want to trade him. But if the FO is confident that a guy like TMJ can grow into a similar role/receiver, I could see them doing it. One thing that doesn't make much sense to me about this rumor though... wouldn't both teams have wanted to complete the deal before the 53-man roster cuts? Now both would have to shuffle around pieces they wouldn't have had to prior, and would be prepping a guy for Week 1 that won't be a part of their long-term plans. I know trades can and still do happen until mid-season, but just doesn't seem logistically sound if the structure of the trade is pretty much already in place to a the degree that it could be reported as "close."

Overall, it was a great draft. Shi has proven he is a starter, and honestly, out if potential, Tremble should be as well. And I still am really high in Taylor. I think he is an NFL starter, and a really good one. But, he's behind two Top 10 picks, a d a guy the staff loves and views as a leader in DJax. Taylor would be starting if not for that... I dont think he gets squeezed out. I think he continues to develop, and by the time Henderson comes up for a new contract, we'll know whether he's the better option or not. What Fitt has done at CB really reminds me of the Hawks glory days... they did the same thing. Drafted and signed so many guys with very similar specific traits, coached them up, developed them, and it was like an embarrassment of riches during the LOB days.

Unimpressed. I'm aware of Anderson and who he is, but I just don't like cutting Nixon. If he is fully recovered from his injury, I wxpect him to get quickly signed by another team and eventually become a really solid contributor. In his limited action last season in real games, he was very impressive. I definitely thought he was better than Hoskins... but, I don't think we really have heard much from Nixon since coming back, so I guess it's possible he isn't the same after his injury?

This. Dude basically threw Thompson a football lifeline TWICE, in college and then as a pro. I'm not saying what he's saying isn't true, but do you think you're going to get a super objective and fair assessment of Rhule from Thompson considering their history together? Sure, there is some truth to what he's saying, and I'm absolutely sure Rhule had positive qualities that the players believe in and like about him. But, it's the results on the field that matters. If he can coach every position, he might want to get to it then, because they have underperformed every year with him as the HC. And honestly, everything we've heard from the outside has indicated he is more of a gameday manager than a hands-on "coach 'em up" at practice kind of coach. And just to contrast, I'm pretty sure if you ask someone like Kenny Robinson about his experience with Rhule, the answer would be a lot different. I think there are guys that like him, even ones that didn't play for him in college, but there also guys that are just cool with playing a game for a living regardless the outcomes or the staff around them... and those guys are the reason we have never had back to back winning seasons, because it's a culture that isn't based on winning but rather image. And to me, things haven't been any different with Rhule in that sense. Who would you like working for more? Someone who is nice and mostly loyal that you can get over on, or someone that is going to push you and take no nonsense where your job security may be threatened if you don't meet their expectations? Most would want to work for the former. The issue is, Rhule and every coach that preceded him became the former, and he appears to be that guy as well, which is why we are still mediocre... So ultimately, I don't want to hear "he cares about his players" and all that BS. I want that to be a given. I want our coach to care about winning and be good at it, and good at finding the people to help him do it - not putting friends and followers in his backpack to take them along for a ride they don't deserve.

Agreed 100%. It sucks, because KRob was, imo, from out of the 4 guys we're discussing here, thr best pure playmaker out of all them. Naturally. And as you said, Jaycee even said he was thr hardest hitting DB we had. I just don't understand why you wouldn't want that guy and find a spot for him on your team. I had been watching him since the XFL and wanted us to draft him, so when we did, I was ecstatic... but, man, it is clear, Rhule never liked him... can't wait to see more of Chandler getting abused. And again, how telling is it that they forced Burris into being a starter since we signed him and kept trying to sell us on his versatility and such, and he ends up getting cut and then signed back on the PS, at his age and experience level. That tells us all we need to know about what the rest of the NFL thinks of him.
