The same reason we always seem to hang on to fringe players. That is....ummm, yeah, I've got nothing.
-
QB, OL and depth on defense were the question marks heading into camp. Nothing has changed.

Rhule was talking with a ref, and BOTH he and the ref were giggling about something. Yes, the optics were bad, but I'm 99.9% sure they weren't laughing AT Pride. Now, should Rhule have been sharing a light-hearted moment while he had an injured player on the field? Probably not, but one has to do mental gymnastics to think both he and the ref were making fun of Pride.

Remember we started Gross out on the right side and he was a first round pick. I think people are expecting too much out of a rookie 3rd round pick to come in and win the starting LT spot right away at one of the most difficult spots to play in the NFL.

Cool man you keep your kicker with better 1 point attempts and I'll keep the one with much more success at 3 points. Deal?
-
To rub salt into a wound, Gano only missed 1 FG all season for the Giants. Before anyone asks, on 32 attempts. He was 21 of 23 on PATs. Only 3 missed kicks all season. Slye can accomplish that in one game.
-
Context is everything. Butker had 54 PATs attempts to Slye's 32. So yes, it's stands to reason he very well could have more PAT misses given the much greater number of attempts. The make rate? Slye was slightly better by 2.8%. However, on FGs, the ones that count 3 points, Butker was 12% better on just 9 fewer attempts. Lastly, I have seen some KC games and while Butker does miss some, he doesn't struggle with ball control like Slye does.

Grier handed the ball off almost the entire second half or attempted a few short passes. The last pass attempt, the only one with any significant distance, was a pressure. PJ had to run out of pressures several times. The OL penalties were embarrassing. Scott even got yanked. Stats don't lie, but they don't tell the entire story either.
-
Here's Slye's problem, once he has a bad kick it gets in his head. His first kick was right down the middle. It was his second or third he sliced badly and his accuracy was gone the rest of the day.

Right now I'd take Jake Fromm, Joshua Dobbs, Josh Rosen, Trevor Siemien or Brett Hundley over PJ. All those guys are 4th on the depth chart for their teams right now and will be available in a couple of weeks.

I totally agree Sam is a huge question mark until he proves otherwise, but I also can't understand why we are seemingly fine with glossing over the reserve QB situation. Remember, Darnold hasn't been the most durable guy and has yet to play a full season. My point is it's not too much to ask for a little upgrade to the most valuable #2 spot on the team. Let's forget about Grier, he's obviously toast, but PJ is a #3 in all honesty. Whether that be on the 53-man roster or practice squad, that's the reality. We are one hit away form flushing a promising season because the team is too narrow-sighted to realize they have all their eggs in one basket.

Nobody is questioning why backups are backups, it's just some backups are better than others and some don't deserve to even be 3rd string. Take the era out of the equation, would you feel better with Steve Beuerlein, Jake Delhomme or even Derek Anderson as a backup over Grier? Yes, all those guys came here as backups. Up until today, supposedly the #2 competition between Walker and Grier was a toss-up. So no, your backup QBs don't have to be flaming bags of dog poo.
-
Here's my bet, we cut Grier and sign a QB after cuts and stash him on the PS. Remember, Rhule was coy about whether or not we were even keeping 3 QBs this season. Grier just made that an easy decision.
-
So the staff had no confidence in the OL and that's why they had Grier routinely hand the ball off? I call BS. That's 100% coach-speak.
-
Nah, there's even varying levels to sucking and Grier is at the top of the list...err, or is that the bottom?
-
This. Is an emergency QB worth keeping if you know they suck? This should be a rhetorical question.
-
That what happens when you know you suck and feel the need for an extra step to prevent the sack. Unfortunately, it's illegal to do so.
-
LOl, Grier still manage to fumble.
-
Grier will take a knee and save his arse...
-
There's no way Grier is the #2 after today.
-
I hated the pick then and NOTHING has changed.

He keeps the clipboard warm, safe and dry.
