Pretty much a stalemate. I think JJ clearly got the best of Ickey twice. However, two plays in an entire game versus a top edge rusher? Not perfect obviously, but pretty damn solid.

Roll with this group. Our cap situation sucks next year and any rolled over cap will be greatly needed. Tepper has given Rhule a vote of confidence for this season, so ol' Matty boy isn't pressed to make hasty decisions...such as trading for Jimmy G. or Mayfield.

Because...why not?

I've already said he's the UDFA that makes the team...barring injury. He's got to beat out Thompson and Sullivan for TE3. REALLY?
-
Dwight Stone was a good returner for us and he was in his 30's. Ageism is real. Don't hate on older folks....

And Rhule gets the demotion....out of Charlotte.

Yeah, the same ones Bil Cosby used. What? Too soon?

Understanding there had been over 50 of these and looking at it with the other rare bird of Cool Joe out of it, it's very slim. So 3rd round and lower..STARTERS since 1980 with the Golden Children of Brady and Montana you have exactly four...Wilson, Johnson, Warner and Rypien. Brees was the top of the 2nd, before there were 32 teams. Farve I think was 5th in the 2nd before 32 teams. Hostetler took over for an injured Phil Simms midway through the season and wasn't the starter once Simms returned the next season. Same thing With Foles, who took over for an injured Carson Wentz. Johnson was a 9th round pick; we don't even have 9 rounds anymore and Warner went undrafted. So to say those were luck of the draw is an understatement.

My point exactly. Remove the anomaly and there you have it. In statistics you have these things called 'outliers'. Outliers are normally dismissed because they screw up the otherwise bell-shaped curve. Yes, Brady is an outlier. Name me 6th round and lower SB QBs with him out of the equation. The list gets SUPER slim.
-
Yep, people say that plenty of 1st round QBs have been bust, but first rounders have overwhelmingly been the ones under center for Super Bowl Champions. Take Brady out of the equation and the list non-first round SB winning QBs gets really thin.
-
Brees was a super high 2nd rounder as well as Farve. FYI, the link is broken.
-
See, this is why it was dumb to let WRs start wearing single digits.
-
Exception to the rule. By that token you should shop for franchise QBs in 6th round because of Tom Brady.

Those of us who follow the draft had said for months this was a very weak QB class. The 1st round predictions form the media talking heads were based off teams like...oh, let's say the Panthers getting super desperate and taking one of the guys. Goes to show even the perceived "desperate" teams knew this class wasn't worth the 1st round gamble.

Yep, our cap situation for 2023 SUCKS! At this point, the 2022 roster is what it is. Adding another player or two isn't going to tip the scales to make us dramatically better.

Round 3 Pick 94: Panthers Select Matt Corral - QB Ole Miss
45catfan replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
3rd round QBs seldomly work out to be starters, period. If he does, great! We got a steal. I'm not holding my breath, though, and that is my entire point. By the way, Hurney was said to have a 1st round grade on Grier. Poo it all you want, but our GM at the time thought he had a steal too. In summary: if Corral ends up QB1, freaking awesome! If Corral busts or peaks out as a QB2, it was to be expected. -

Yup, arse end of the round though, so essentially a high 5th. Losing that pick isn't worth fretting over. -
Round 3 Pick 94: Panthers Select Matt Corral - QB Ole Miss

I'm not saying he wasn't worth the pick, what I am saying is that those thinking he will develop into our franchise QB probably will be let down. If Corral at minimum turns into a solid QB2, then it's worth the 3rd rounder. I'm just not holding my breath he'll ever be a legit QB1. Remember, Will Grier also had his own Huddle groupies after he was drafted thinking with development Will would eventually be starting caliber. That experiment was short lived. -

Corral was the QB I like the most in the mid-rounds. As long as we didn't take him (or any other QB) at #6, I was fine with that...provided we didn't give up the farm to move back into day 2. I imagine Fitts will move back next year the the first or second round to recoup that pick. At the very least we have a successor to PJ Walker beyond this year. -

It sucks we had to give up next year' 3rd for him, other than that, I'm okay with this flier pick. Yes, a 3rd round QB pick is a flier unless you drafted him to be a backup. As a starter...complete flier pick. *Russell Wilson argument incoming*. -
Ian Thomas, Tommy Tremble (more of an H-back), Colin Thompson and Stephen Sullivan. If we keep 3 TEs, I'm nearly certain Babicz can beat out Sullivan and Thompson, who we've cut, re-signed and placed on the practice squad numerous times.

Doesn't hurt PSU is Rhule's Ala Mater as well. You know he's all about his connections.
-
Yes, some of these TDs were very easy, but a couple of catches were tough. This is why I think he will do well. He can catch with ease which Thomas and Tremble seemingly have issue with.

Round 1 - The Carolina Panthers select Ikem Ekwonu
45catfan replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
The worst kept secret in this draft was we were taking a tackle if any of the big 3 fell to us. I listen to sports talk radio on the way to work in the morning and literally everyone said tackle was the pick at #6 if still there and the QB talk was mostly smoke out of the Panthers' camp (unless there was a run on OT). When all 3 were there at #5, there was no reason for the Giants to fear someone jumping them at #7. Also, how did they know we preferred Ickey over Neal? We just as well could have drafted Neal. Again, it doesn't make sense, but I'm not complaining because I got my #1 rated player as a Panther. I was just 99% sure Ickey would be gone by #6. -

What doesn't make sense is the Giants had their pick of ANY, repeat A-N-Y of the big 3 OTs. We had no interest in a defensive player at #6. So they could have easily taken the tackle of their choice at #5 and came back at #7 and still got Thibadeaux. That's the very reason why EVERYONE was shocked that Ickey fell to us.
