Because it has been shown a 'game manager' QB is sufficient with the right coaching staff and essentially "complete" roster. This is not what I want forever, but at least for next year. Fix the rest of the roster, allow the rookie staff to get their feet wet and let them get a rookie QB in the '24 draft. If you still don't get what I'm saying, I'll throw out an analogy in a subsequent post.

Not, it is not.

Yes, they do...just not high fist round. There generally is a TE drafted in the first round just about every year, if not top of the second. If we can find a trade back partner and still get Mayer, that's a win-win in my book.
-
Tell that to 99% of the Huddle. We are in the VAST minority on that sentiment my friend. I started beating the replace Greg Olsen drum when he re-broke his foot. Like Jordan Gross, it will probably take this thick-skulled organization another few years to realize the void that's staring them straight in the face.

I may be surprised or he may be the as raw as advertised. Josh Allen went to a small school and was further along. I wouldn't lump the two together. Again, if some QB falls to #8/#9 not named Richardson and we draft him, I'll be begrudgingly okay with it. If we reach for Richardson there, then I will be freaking livid. I hope Fitts is smarter than that.
-
Levis yes, anyone that's wanting a starting QB out of this draft class knows Richardson absolutely WILL NOT be ready. He has to sit a year. You are not using a top 10 pick on that.
-
Not gonna lie, I skimmed it. However, while Fitts has made some missteps, it can nearly be all fixed in just one offseason. We have FIVE picks in the top 103 selections. Firstly, he should not piss any of those away on a trade up. I don't care how hard the fan base stomps their feet and whines for a QB. We HAVE TO come away with a TE, WR, MLB and DE (not necessarily in the order) with the first 4 of them. If we want to take a shot at a QB, rounds 3 or 4 will be the area. Otherwise, we need to draft a RB, OLB and DB. A DT or IOL would be nice, but we just don't have enough picks unless we trade back. At this point, Burns has to be extended since he wasn't traded. Brown and Luvu should be too. Wilson, Elflein and Haynes need to be cap casualties. That will create just enough cap room for roughly 2 mid-tier starting guys and a few back-up/STs types. I like Bozeman, but he's gonna have to take a hometown deal to stay, or extremely back loaded one at very least. Lastly. I think Tepper will get Fitts input on the HC search. While Tepper will make the final call, Fitts will likely help mold the list of candidates. This may be the most crucial decision(s) he makes all offseason. That's not hyperbole. If Scott knocks all of of these moves out of the ballpark, this team will be in the playoffs next winter...I have no doubt.

Fell? Yes, but we both know that happen and I am 100% AGAINST trading up. We finally built up some draft capital just to piss it away. He's the one QB I would be okay with drafting this year in the first round.
-
But, but, but, look at his arm!!!!!! (standing in a puddle of drool). signed--Huddle 'Big Arm' fanboy club

I would argue TE and WR are a bigger need than drafting a QB this year for what we will be left with (Richardson/Levis).
-
Not this year, maybe next.
-
Bingo! FYI, this QB class thinned out so drastically and so fast that some team is going to REALLY reach for Richardson. He should be a second round pick, but he'll end up in the top half the first, maybe even top 10. I hope it isn't us. He's a boom or bust prospect that will need a lengthy developmental period, basically the Jordan Love road. We don't have that luxury.

Extra picks are worth it no matter where in round they fall. Sure you want them to be higher, but even at the end of the round is better than no extra picks at all. Even if the 49ers win the SB, the trade would have been worth it. Having CMC here yesterday would not have kept Henderson from getting torched all game AND we got rid of his mega-contract.

Wilks is great motivator and leader. What he is not is a great head coach. Just because he could earn the respect of the locker room quickly and get guys to buy into his philosophy doesn't mean he's an excellent Xs and Os guy or game day manager. He's better than Rhule by a mile, but that's not a ringing endorsement because Rhule was utter garbage.

Houston, we have a problem. Seriously, I doubt they take Young over Stroud now. I'm not moving to #2 for dude will stay on IR in the NFL.
-
No, you are grasping at straws. Just outside the top 10 and you say say that our OL is dragging the entire offense down. Who is desperate?
-
There's no such thing as a perfect roster, but there is such thing as perfect timing though. There's too much turmoil, change and upheaval for a rookie QB to function correctly here next year. Let the 2023 staff go through their growing pains, lessons learned and understanding of *THEIR roster before trying to bring in the franchise QB. Again this isn't 2011 where we had the #1 overall and we got to get the pick of the litter. We are talking about QB3/4 here in what turned out to be a dud of a draft for QBs due to NIL and the transfer portal.
-
I know you guys are tired of the "wait one more year", but I really mean it. Get our TE1, WR1/2, MLB, DE (Burns bookend) and hopefully couple other complimentary parts...we are there. Then if you want to sell the farm for a rookie QB in the 2024 draft, then so be it. Plus, we are not moving all the way up for Stroud. It's Levis or Richardson and I'm not thrilled with either of those options.
-
The VERY reason you DON'T draft the QB until you have some pieces around him...and that a competent HC with a retread QB can work. One game, two points proven. *FYI, I'm not against a rookie QB, but it ain't the time.*

Can Sam Darnold play himself into becoming the 2023 starter?

^^^All of this. At least someone gets it around here. -
The NFL paid off CJ Henderson? Isn't that a serious conflict of interest?
-
How? TEs are generally a QBs security blanket. So a mediocre-to-bad OL should have MORE TE utilization, not less. A team with a superior OL that doesn't require an in-line blocking TE will opt for the extra WR nearly every time on passing downs. Your logic doesn't make sense.
-
Ok, we strive for #1 OL while we languish in TE purgatory. You can do two things at once. I agree our TEs are underutilized...because they suck. As an OC , I would be hesitant to use them too.
