  1. I couldn't disagree more. Sam just completed year 5 and barely qualifies as a starter in the NFL, more like a quality backup. Calling Lance a bust after a few games is premature and sounds like personal bias.
  2. We moved on from CMC. Sometimes it's about getting at least something in return for a player that's no longer in your plans. If the 49ers think they've found Tom Brady 2.0 (early returns) with Purdy, then keeping Lance with all that draft capital tied up in him on the sidelines is hard to justify. They can get a cheap veteran backup in FA and recoup some draft capital by moving Lance.
  3. What is one thing the winning teams on Sunday have in common? Both team's TEs were the leading receivers in yardage for their respective clubs. But hey, we have THE Ian Thomas, so all is well.
  4. I think they will do a second round of interviews this week and make the decision early next week. Tuesday's seems to be the day for big news in the Panthers organization (1/31). I doubt the decision is made (public-- the organization may know by then) any earlier than this coming weekend. On the other hand, I don't think it comes any later than Super Bowl week--so no later than 2/6.
  5. I'm not too sure about that as the model seems to be changing a bit, especially with an intact owner and GM. If anything it's to give the new HC a leg up on starting his staff instead of walking in with the cupboard completely bare. Not to say that Tepper/Fitterer will hire a DC first, but say 'okay, we've already done the preliminary leg work for DC candidates--here our notes and thoughts. We will call back the guys you like the best for another interview.' I see it going something like that. Getting back on topic, If they can land Lance for a reasonable price AND get a veteran backup/fall back guy too? This job wouldn't be such a bad spot at all for a perspective HC.
  6. This site will not allow trades unless you sign up for the 'premium' package (pay). This a decent draft if Fitts doesn't get all trade happy. Honestly, 1-2 trades is about all we could expect anyway--yielding at most 2-3 more picks. Any more than that is purely having fun with the simulators.
  7. Yep, which is the tell that they really want an offensive guy as HC. Not that a defensive HC is completely out of the question, but the top of the list has to go completely wrong for that to happen. Johnson staying in Detroit was the first hit, and the Saints asking a higher price for us for Payton than other teams likely knocks him out. Wilks may end up getting this job by default.
  8. I've been mocking Chase Brown and Dewayne McBride a lot in the middle of the draft. If I miss out there, I take Ibrahim and Spears late. Abanikanda is in the middle of those selections. We have to take a RB because Foreman is a short term answer and Chuba is too inconsistent.
  9. Bingo. We put too much focus on players and not the people coaching, game planning and calling the plays and managing the games. We got to nail the HC coaching search FIRST and then worry about the roster. However, it would be nice to pair a new offensive minded HC with Lance if the asking price is reasonable.
  10. Okay, we are not going to agree on this. You value college competition>>>>>>>reps. I say reps>>>>>>than college competition. Both lack the reps, but Lance has two years of NFL systems and at least SOME reps in the League. To me that is more valuable than simply putting on a uniform that happens to be a team in the SEC. Richardson flashed, but looked far from great--yes, while playing in the SEC.
  11. Eh, I don't recall 5th, I recall 3rd...but yes, 2nd would have been high for most folks liking.
  12. Yet, Lance is already ahead of where AR-15 is at this point and people are clamoring for the more inexperienced version of the two? Lance has NFL experience now and while probably a year behind where he needs to be in development, that loss in production is on the 49ers who obviously wanted him to start this year and was until the injury. Point being, if Lance is traded (anywhere) and shows significant progress the next two seasons, the team that gets him can probably re-sign him to a very reasonable second contract by QB standards.
  13. I'd take a WR at #89 and S at #129, but overall...nice.
  14. I wouldn't say the BiG 12 is elite competition, but Brock Purdy is doing well. Why? He played and started 47 games in college ( only game he didn't play was the opener his freshman year). His college stats weren't eye popping by any means, good completion %, but overall average. When he got to the NFL, the game wasn't too big for him.
  15. You were one of the few, if not the only one. I was indifferent on Hurts (not down on him, not super excited either) but the haters were extremely vocal if you recall. "Lost his job to Tua" "forced to transfer" "system QB at OK" "undersized" " "Not worth a pick because he's not a 1st rounder" etc....
  16. The level of play is a bit overblown. Lance struggles have do do with his age and lack of snaps in the college game. Again, I would not touch a RSO QB in the draft from here on out. The NFL QB requirements are just too much for them.
  17. Lance has started all of FOUR games in the NFL...that's all. He's appeared in just four more. In TWO of those appearances, they were goal line packages, only ONE play (he scored on both). So the guy has about 1/2 of a NFL season (really just a 1/3 season) in actual games and he's already a bust? Lance may eventually be a bust, but his body of work is way too small to say for sure at this point.
  18. Whichever floats their boat.
  19. That will be taken into consideration. So if he runs well for that weight it won't hurt him. I'd say as long as he doesn't run over a 4.7 he should be just fine. He doesn't have to run in the 4.5's as LBs are primarily responsible for TEs in coverage. He has to be as fast or faster than the typical LB. That said, I think he will crush the skills portion of his Pro day. Jumping drills will probably be average. Strength should be above average. Timed cone drills is the only part I think he will be less than average.
  20. I know I'm in the slim minority...as usual, but Queen (city) Reich
  21. Not a blue chip like this dude. Unless he bombs the combine/Pro day or gets injured he's not getting out of the teens. Conversely if he runs stellar and has an awesome showing, Mayer will be knocking on the door of the top 10.
  22. 'Hurts is garbage' was the general consensus here when he was coming out in the draft. I honestly don't remember him having any real fans, but I definitely wasn't in the majority whose sentiment of Hurts was he couldn't make it as a NFL QB.
  23. For a 3rd? DO IT! Dude needs some more coaching and why people pooing Lance and riding AR-15s jock strap can't grasp the irony if it fell out of the sky and landed right on their heads. RSOs are RAW. If anything Lance should be the flashing sign to stay away for RSO QBs. The QB position is too damn demanding in the NFL for a 20-year old to grasp. Lance may or may not be a bust, but what is certain is he should have stayed in school at least another year.
  24. Eichenburg went back to school I thought. I agree we are so thin at LB realistically we need an ILB and an OLB.
