Latest mock from the Athletic. Fields to CAr. Jones to NO
45catfan replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
If we trade up, it had better be for Lance. I'm really hoping the Falcons fall in love with the local kid and leave Trey on the board for us. -
So now we have at least 4 WRs with NFL experience under wraps for next season, plus a few developmental guys. No need to press for a WR in the draft.
-
I can see what the brass is up to now. Trimming the fat with the cuts last week while re-signing key backup/rotational guys to the roster. Back filling the lower end of the roster doesn't dent the cap space very much while keeping the shopping list to a minimum once FA does open.
-
Samuel insurance. It makes sense.
-
That means we would only have to move to #5 in a trade with the Bengals ahead of the Eagles, which I've said numerous time. We don't have to move up to #3. Also, if it's Fields remaining and not Lance, I don't move up at all and roll the dice he falls to #8.
-
Seriously, I take their 7th this year with and conditional 6th in 2022. I think that is more than fair. I wouldn't give them any picks, we need them after the cap casualties last week and I honestly don't think they are done yet.
-
A day 3 pick or a player-for-player swap is the best I think we could do. I'd take a cold ham sandwich AND offer to pet sit Belichick's dog for free while he goes on vacation. You think he'd settle for that?
-
Teddy's contract is actually reasonable for a starting QB. The problem is do the Patriots consider him a legit starter or a top-tier backup?
-
I think the Patriots are done with our castoffs. However, it may be possible for poor Teddy to become their bridge QB if they draft Mac Jones. Poor Teddy, but hey, he has bridge in his name so it's like built-in advertisement.

Too many of y'all are caught on on the whole FCS thing. Put Lance on OSU and Fields on NDSU (but they keep their current stats) and I bet these FBS homers would be all in on Trey. It would go something like this: 'That Fields kid has never played anybody, he from some small FCS school...I bet he couldn't play with the big boys in a Power 5 school.' Yadda, yadda, yadda and so forth.
-
Lance's HC said that very thing; they did challenge Trey. As a redshirt freshman they started him off simple and threw more on his plate each week until he had a command of the offense and by season's end it was pretty much Trey's offense. He had the ability to change out of plays based on what the defense was giving him. I'm not sure if you watched it, but the video with NDSU's HC was posted in one of these threads talking about Lance.
-
Yet Lance ran a pro-style system at NDSU, but since it's a FCS school and not a top 25 FBS school, he's completely dismissed.
-
I've seen some BBs with Lance moving ahead of Fields. I predicted this would happen, but it doesn't bode well for us getting Lance if he becomes the consensus #3 QB behind Lawrence and Wilson. I would absolutely gag if the Falcons drafted him. Philly, the Lions, yeah that would suck, but the freaking Falcons? Barf!!!

Based on??????

This is the problems with kids today. Absolutely zero respect. But hey, he got his 15 seconds of fame on TicTok, right? I'd be willing to bet a chunk of change that the kid staged this with some buddies to put on social media. He seemed way too comfortable (rehearsed talking points) with his trash talking for this to be completely impromptu. He knew Cam would be there and was like, "Hey, film me talking sh*t to Cam Newton and I will become famous on TikTok."
-
I'm good with Jimmy G. over Teddy. Both guys have contracts that expire in 2022. I would still want to draft a rookie QB this year, but Jimmy G. would give us a better 'bridge year' than Teddy. In other words, not a complete throw away season before the rookie QB is ready.

Roster Holes and The Case For Trading Down/Accumulating Draft Picks
45catfan replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Trade down, yes, but not until at least the 3rd round. We have to hit on the first two picks, badly...i.e. day 1 starters. Rotational players and backups, sure, we can trade back and gain a couple of picks while not missing out on much talent-wise. -
The Panthers now #7 most cap space in the NFL
45catfan replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would rather pocket most of that money and roll it over a year from now when the team has fewer holes to fill and can specifically target a position or two of need in FA. We have so many holes now, we could use every bit of that cap space during FA and still not have every position shored up. -
I traded back twice to accumulate more picks. Oh, and yes please. If you are wondering why I skipped out on the LT, the reason is simple. If we are tagging Moton, and all indications are this is happening, that's too much money for a RT. His butt is sliding over to the left side and I drafted a solid RT and a swing tackle (that also can play guard) later on. Cox I drafted to take over for Chinn's roll. Chinn slides back to FS and Grant I drafted to replace Burris in a year and as injury insurance. No quality depth at safety. Two corners drafted, a slot WR, 3-tech DT, DE/DT that can line up anywhere on the DL and a pass rushing DE. I would take this draft all day!
-
I think they roll with Hurts and bring in a solid journeyman veteran to back him up. I doubt they go with another rookie QB.
-
It's year two. The core of the defense is in place and the systems are already established. Get solid OL line play and plug a few holes via the draft and FA, this team is easily an 8-8 team. You don't sniff .500 in year one of a rebuild.
-
Brushing up on safeties in the draft now. With the run on defense last year in the draft, I figured we would address corner, LB and DT at most and turn the focus to offense. Until the Boston release, drafting a safety would have been a luxury pick. Now, not so much.
-
If these players are cap casualties (i.e. getting handsomely paid) what makes people here think these very same players will all of a sudden go dumpster diving for deals? Will they bite on a somewhat cheaper deal? Possibly. Will they jump on the first low-balled contract a team throws at them? Nope. If we are building though the draft, many of those cap casualties will still be too rich for the Panthers.

My favorite BB for a few years now. They don't do a ton of mocks and are not particularly good at those, but as for ranking players, they do a very good job.

Obada had a tough year, considered quitting
45catfan replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
It was. I can't recollect who they had to make room for by bumping him, but I remember the staff had their fingers crossed Obada would clear waivers. As soon as he did, Efe was immediately re-signed with a corresponding move.
