Carolina Panthers Training Camp - Monday Thread

Yep, I've seen this footage a ton, but in the video he was rolling left and passed in the same 1/4 of the field. A totally different scenario rolling to the wide side, throwing a pass that has to cover 2/3 of the field, cross-body and going against your momentum. Again, QB 101...a huge no-no. -

Yep, but those are very throws that freak people out about Darnold and why he has historically had a high number of picks. I agree, I'd rather have that than a pure game manager, but the picks will happen. Darnold will never be a 10 pick a season or fewer QB with the chances he takes. -

As good of a one-handed snag that Robby had, the throw was just a impressive. Voth said 20+ yards, it was actually 30+ from my vantage point. Darnold was rolling right with defense hot on his heels and he threw cross field, across his body to Robby and still nearly overthrew him. Now the scary part, you all do know the #1 cardinal sin for a QB? Well, that was it and he threw it anyway. Maybe he knew it was just practice and wouldn't have done that in a game situation. It worked out and ended up being a beautiful play, but you still have to question Darnold's thought processes sometimes. -

PJ ran a good 2 minute drill to end practice. He was very sharp on all his passes. -
He seems to have the arm strength, though not exactly a gunslinger. He's mobile enough and isn't shy about trying to throw into tight windows.

I just got home from watching practice. Robby's one-handed grab was the highlight of an otherwise short and uneventful practice. It's hard to glean too much since they stay on the far field almost exclusively. -
Larkin getting cut too with an injury settlement is a bit surprising. This is why we should have used one of those 11 draft picks on a DE. Linebacker a DE were two missed opportunities from the draft. To that point, look at the spots we keep churning.

I'm usually a fan of the small-school guys, but being an undrafted small-school guy, he had a major uphill battle to land a roster spot. I thought he'd at least make the practice squad.
-
They decided they didn't need him any Moore.

To be cut from our OL is pretty bad. His small-school game probably didn't translate to the NFL.

So when preseason is over, does that officially put a lid on this stupid Watson talk? He's NOT a Panther and, in-season, this forum is dedicated solely to the Panthers. At this point, it's PURELY click bait until we get to the regular season...I get it. Hopefully the mods will end this non-sense in a few weeks. Currently Watson threads are worse than a re-occurring rash.

So does anyone still think Hurney made the picks in the 2020 draft? Over a decade of pure crap drafting, outside of the first round, and then arguably the best draft in team history in 2020. Different draft class, but I was very much against drafting Greg little. Moving up was just insult to injury. Hurney 2.0 though!

I go back years wanting us to upgrade the TE position, ever since Olsen's FIRST foot injury. This year wasn't the deepest or most top heavy draft for TEs, but at least we got one. I was heavily on the Dallas Goedert bandwagon. What was that, like 4 years ago?
-
Called for this cut once we signed Arnold to a nice deal and drafted Tremble on day 2. Thomas is overpaid for a backup TE. Footnote: I also said he wouldn't amount to much either.

That was Horn's main red "flag" in his scouting report...WAAAAY too handsy. Agreed, he needs to get that figured out quickly.

Panthers sign former Minnesota Gophers LB Jonathan Celestin
45catfan replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
I wanted us to spend a day 3 pick on LB in the draft. It would have been better than, say, a LS and a 3rd string DT, right? We were thin there last year and even with a couple of FA signings, it still isn't very deep. If we have a couple of injuries there, Chinn may be moving back to LB full time. -
I looked it up; it was Grant back in rookie season in 2000. They thought he would never play another down in football. Luckily he made it a back and had a decent career playing for several different teams. Yeah, training camp injuries suck and we are due for one or more every camp; one of which is usually a starter. KK was last year. Ryan had a pretty clean injury history until then and was never the same afterwards.

Texans now indicate Deshaun Watson is available for trade
45catfan replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Eh, there were a few people that wanted Vick after he served his suspension for dog fighting too. People do deserve second chances in certain circumstances, but let some other organization take that risk. I mean we will always have the Rae Carruth stigma associated with us. After the Greg Hardy and Jerry, you would think the organization would steer clear of anyone associated with sexual maleficence. Yes, that would even include franchise QBs. -

Regardless of what people thought of Jerry Richardson and his relative effectiveness as the owner of this organization, I remember some folks here were ready to march down Mint street to BOA with pitchforks and torches to yank his but out of his plush office at BOA for the casual Fridays fiasco--aka "jeans Friday". These same folks are either mum on Watson now or in some twisted way in favor for trading for him once his suspension is served. Jerry couldn't play QB at a high level though... Point being, wrong is wrong and twisting logic into a pretzel trying to justify Watson here after throwing the founder of this organization to the gators as chum bait for similar, but WAAAAAAAAY less serious offenses is beyond mind-numbing. -

Yep and remember at least one of the women isn't just accusing him of a rub and tug, but actual sex that she says was NOT consensual, but she was too scared/intimidated to stop it. That's rape, period. Sure, let's make him the face of our franchise after the League smacks him on the hand. -
I was there the day a safety broke his hip bone in TC. You could literally hear it snap. The screaming was heart-wrenching. It was Charles Godfrey or Dion Grant, I can't remember...

Lol at the final rank. I'm sure Igo will catch some flack for that one.

Here's to a camp with no serious injuries, all work and no drama. I am going to try to make it to Sparkle City on Monday. Last year broke my streak of attending training camp going back almost 20 years.
