Who hasn't heard of Picasso?
-
I just was asking in another thread if the first cuts around the League have started to trickle through. I guess I got my question answered, lol!
-
For all you social media-types out there that follow a bunch of the NFL talking heads, has anyone seen any action on cuts yet?
-
Maybe they decided to focus on the the final roster instead of sending a couple dozen player out there to practice that won't even be here in 24 hours. That's the hope anyhow.
-
It's the yin/yang of the Carolina Panthers. We can't excel at one position without equally sucking at another. Everything must balance!
-
They are equally mediocre at both, so I see JB getting CMC out in space and quick passes to keep Darnold from getting shell-shocked. Maybe they gel a few games into the season and get some chemistry in either the run game or pass game; possibly both. Let's hope!

True, the only problem we tend to have with punters is how much we overpay them. If Charlton keeps this up, I suspect a nice payday is in his future. I'm not against him getting paid a good salary, just not a Marty Hurney-type gift of a salary.

Saunders goes to the PS. He got a lot of looks with the backups, but is going to be just a developmental guy. No need to burn a roster spot on the 53 man squad for that. It sounds like Rhule is really high on Cannon, but what spot does he take, a RB or WR? If we don't bring in a FB, he can be the #4 RB, but if we do pick up a FB then we will not carry five (RB/FB). If that does happen, you would think a WR spot has to be dropped. I imagine some cuts will come later this afternoon...the easy decisions. The bubble cuts will be tomorrow.

Oh, you had a translator? Could you translate for the rest of us?
-
Yes, but does Charlton throw as pretty of spiral pass and with the accuracy of Johnnie Hekker? Hekker probably could have been an emergency QB if needed. I agree, sometimes it's better to lucky than good...and I'm referring to the randomness from which we snagged Charlton off the streets. I seriously doubt the team had any idea he'd be this effective.

Ex-Patriots QB Says Cam Newton 'Distracted' By Rap Music
45catfan replied to Greatman77's topic in Carolina Panthers
Preseason is over...the official end to the offseason, so shouldn't all threads from here on out be 100% Panthers (current players) related now or do we still have to deal with this kind of nonsense for another week until week1? -
David Moore is a lock because of his contract. He's nothing special and I suspect that he'll be the #5 guy once Shi Smith gets his NFL trial by fire games under his belt. Right now he's got that #4 WR spot over the rookie. Kirkwood makes no sense to keep, there's zero cap hit and we have younger guys with more potential to groom. Bayless can be stashed on the PS, nobody is clamoring for his services. The tough one is Zylstra. He can return kicks and has a knack for getting open. USUALLY he has reliable hands, but Friday night he had butter fingers. He's 50/50 to make the last WR spot and that is if they don't reserve the #6 position for Cannon.

If this cut happens, the backup swing tackle I would want over Scott. He should clear waivers. Yodny Cajsute

Final cuts: Surprise makes and cuts for the 53 man roster
45catfan replied to 45catfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Surprisingly is the correct word and I disagree with Grier's ceiling, he's hit it. PJ has had 1-year of full NFL experience, last year essentially being his rookie year. He's not scared to push the ball down field either. Grier plays scared. If he's got decent blocking, he's okay. If he gets rattled by a hit, he turns into check-down mode. If Darnold has to miss several games, Grier is not the answer. -
A LB, we can claim off waivers and not have to worry about salary. A good backup OT would have to clear waivers because even swing OTs worth their salt demand a decent amount of money. I doubt there would be too big of a bidding war in such a scenario. A reserve DE I could go either way, claim off waivers or wait until they clear. There's usually more to dig through at DE than OT though, but if a diamond in the rough is to be had, I could deal with the team paying a bit of a premium to get him.

Final cuts: Surprise makes and cuts for the 53 man roster
45catfan replied to 45catfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
PJ needs to learn touch. His passes are usually on the mark, but he only throws fast balls. Grier, while admitted looking better, still is not the answer if needed to be called into service as starter. -
Final cuts: Surprise makes and cuts for the 53 man roster

How did I forget the LS battle? JJ is on a one-year deal and Fletcher needs one year of NFL experience. JJ gets his swan song and Fletch is sent to the PS to groom this season. -
Final cuts are just a couple days away. Any names that should make the roster that don't or any guys that are fringe guys that make the final 53? The 6th WR will be interesting. I thought Zylstra had it locked up, but then had two drops Friday night. The team seems intrigued by Saunders. Kirkwood is the veteran, but for the cap savings, it better just to part ways. At RB, the depth chart says Bonnafon is the primary back up, but he doesn't even make it. Spencer Brown's performance on Friday earned him the #3 RB spot. The biggest name that I think gets cut is Ian Thomas at TE. Too much cap saving for a guy that will be a back up. I think Ricci edges out Thompson, but it could go either way. Mike Horton is let go and Sam Tecklenburg makes the initial 53, but only until an upgrade is acquired and then sent to the PS. *Something tells me Grier sticks over PJ, but PJ SHOULD get the nod. Christian Miller gets cut and sent to the PS. Dude looks too slow to be an edge rusher. A DE will be picked up. Clay Johnston will make the initial 53, but only until an upgrade is found. Rashaan Melvin gets cut in favor of Thomas-Oliver III. Keith Taylor makes the roster as the 5th CB. Hartsfield played himself into a roster spot Friday night and will make it over Franklin. Franklin goes to the PS. It very well could go the other way, but Hartsfield looks to have more upside than Franklin. I know that was the long version, but here's the condensed one: Makes: Saunders, Brown, Ricci, Tecklenburg (briefly), STO and Hartsfield Cuts: Thomas, Kirwood/Zylstra, Horton, Miller and Franklin

Darnold and our defense should put that dream to bed. Don't worry, Darnold also ended this year's crush of drafting Try Lance. It didn't matter as he went 3rd overall anyway. Was I surprised? Nope, but it shocked the crap out of a lot of people, especially on this board.
-
Bump...so Slye has been cut and now we are looking for 1-2 LBs. Ricci is getting more looks at FB, but honestly they are just trying to find him a home since he's a good STer. Ricci isn't a FB so one should be brought in. I still expect an OT (swing, most likely) and a young, promising DE to be picked up off waivers.

ATM? The mere idea that the organization is even entertaining the idea is BEYOND hypocritical now or even in the future. I guess a "force sale" to acquire an NFL team off a sexual scandal and subsequent zero tolerance messaging from the organization is one thing, but it's apparently also okay to put a sexual predator, oops...'alleged' sexual predator as the face of the franchise as long as he's really good. No conflicting messages there.

I find it amusing that a lot of the people that are on the Watson wagon are the very same ones that threw Jerry Richardson under the bus for WAAAAAAAY less. But hey, admiring women in jeans = rape. As long as the #metoo fits your agenda.
