I see a lot of folks are coming around to this idea. I like it. It starts with the OL folks. I know some UNC homers are frothing at the mouth about the prospects of Howell. Take him out of the equation (significant injury/stays in school) and they would see the light as well. If a veteran QB can't get the job done behind this OL, how in the heck is a rookie supposed to do it? Fix the OL via the draft and FA, get a veteran QB, make Sam the #2, cut PJ and keep Morgan on the practice squad as the #3 next season. In 2023 with ditch Sam, draft a rookie QB to learn behind the veteran for a year and hopefully by 2024 we have a solid OL and franchise QB. I know that's a long term plan, but slapping band aides on these wounds when they really required stitches has only prolonged the agonizing bleeding.

Tepper: Stop the Stadium from Being Overran on a Constant Basis
45catfan replied to Seltzer's topic in Carolina Panthers
Hurney magic was re-signing Jake when they knew his arm was busted. Prior to the injury, Jake was better more times than not. We were at least winning, if not playoff contenders with him before he blew out his elbow. -

The first part you got correct, not so much the second part. In 2003, for example, the stadium was mostly full especially as the season wore on and we were winning. By season's end, the place was packed. Playoffs? The place was wall to wall with Panthers fans. Nobody really knew about Jake or cared about his weird cajun accent, but he was winning football games. It's hard to say that Jake was some kind of marketing gem. Heck, even his Bo Jangles commercials were goofy as heck. -
The 2022 NFL Draft QB class is giving off 2013 vibes

Can someone find the clip of Daley escorting the rusher to Darnold late 3rd, early 4th Quarter? Literally shadowed the guy but didn't so much as lay a finger on him. -

LOl, dude...eBay? That's not where people sell their PSLs. How much time do you have to sift through all these listings? Countless number of PSLs for sell Oh, and those are just the ACTIVE listings. They have an expiration date and then they have to be re-listed. There are probably thousands more (like myself) that want to sell but don't have a listing up currently. -
Does it even matter who the QB is at this point?

No wonder Matthew Stafford blocked the trade from the Lions to the Panthers. He looked at this OL and group of inept college coaches and said, "nah, I'm heading to L.A to compete for a winner." -

If we draft some mediocre QB in the 1st round over a day1 starting O-lineman, my head will explode. -

We need to rebuild this OL and look for the next Jake Delhomme. That's to say a capable #2 on another team that wants to move on with the chance to compete for #1 elsewhere. This rookie class is WEAK and I couldn't stand another 2-3 years of losing...that's even if the rookie QB pans out which is iffy at best. -

The worst and, to be honest, absolute strangest thing Tepper did was to lame duck Marty Hurney, but yet allow him to head up your coaching search. Does anyone think Marty pulled a fast one on Tepper for not retaining him? Marty was not the best talent evaluator to begin with. Either way, Tepper shot himself in the foot by allowing Marty choose the next Panthers HC as he literally had one foot out the door. -

We were at least use to winning seasons roughly every OTHER year. The joke used to be we'd wait until the next year, usually one ending in an odd number, for a winning season. So no, this isn't "all of a sudden". -

The problem is the product, 100%. If the team was considerably better: a) less PSL owners would sell their tickets weekly b) people may actually buy PSLs and c) as a big of a melting pot as Charlotte has become, everyone likes to be associated with a winner and all those Steelers, Bills, Giants, Eagles etc.. fans would pony up for a Panthers jersey just to be part of something special. Build a winner and the fans will come. -

What is the incentive for PSL owners to go to games with this product? It's not like we can get a refund. We have to pay for the tickets in full prior to the season. At this point, unless you are wealthy, you are just throwing good money after bad. Gas, parking, tailgate food, beverages (soft and adult) a beverage or two in the stadium and perhaps a snack at concessions. That crap adds up quickly. It's a money decision for me, I'd rather my seat sit empty if I'm unable to sell tickets than spend one more penny on such a poor product. -

I tried to sell my tickets for today's WELL below face value and didn't get a bite. I almost forfeited my PSLs this year and thought if the team did well I could maybe actually be able to sell them. So much for that and there's no way I'm paying for tickets again next season. The experience has sucked for years now anyway. When all the prime tailgating spots got taken away on the north side of the stadium for development and 'text a snitch' was introduced in the stadium was the beginning of the end for me. -
Checked out for the rest of the season

Yup, just about time to turn my focus towards draft season. We might win 2 more games if we are lucky. -
Yup and it shortened his career.
-
This coming draft is STACKED with top-notch OL. That said, we'll wait until day 3 or not draft one at all.
-
I can say with 100% certainty that this team is not serious about winning until we draft an O-lineman in the 1st round.
-
Why the hold up then? Were they intentionally trying to get Cam, Teddy and Sam murdered? Why assume they will fix it in the future as this has hardly been a recent problem?
-
It was his last season, yes. Also I hate voidable years as paying someone to not be on your team to make a contract move palatable in the short term is stupid.
-
Lol, behind this OL he'd have to take up residence at a massage parlor!
-
...and so on and so on and so on. Preach! It has been a comedy of errors since last season ended and we thought it couldn't get any worse. Never assume you have seem the worst because it can ALWAYS be worse.
-
I hate for any person to get hurt. We weren't re-signing him and even if the team had the smallest notion of even thinking about it, this should completely shut the door. I wish Matt a speedy recovery and good luck in the future.
-
We had an opportunity to be good this year, but it seems most moves we made from the off season to now have backfired than not. Hassan was a good pick up and Gilmore, while just a rental, was a nice addition. You can go back and question most of the moves made.
-
And once teams got tape on us and figured us out, we can't seem to adjust. See Panthers circa 2020 for proof.

If this weren't his baby, I bet Jerry Richardson would absolutely be horse laughing at Tepper right now. That said, I imagine he still wants this organization to succeed.
