Yeah, but that doesn't keep them from drafting one this year. The 2-year deal is purely as a stopgap.
-
Fitts: Hey, can we get you on camera showing us your hands so we can appease all the knuckleheads over at the Huddle?
-
Rhule: I can put something in your hands to make them look bigger.
-
He doesn't have to an All Pro, just better than Darnold...and yes, just a stopgap until next draft.
-
I'd go out and outbid them for Mariota and force their hand. I know, a complete d*ck move, but hey, we are talking about the Falcons!
-
So they are copying what we should be doing?

Matty Water to the Colts for a 3rd rounder.

Again who is Atlanta trading up with? They are not going to let us dictate who they draft as a QB. -
Willis has an arm, but does he have Darnold field vision, meaning the lack thereof? That is his knock on tape..limited progressions and avoids routes to the interior of the field.
-
Nah, just up to the Jets. The Giants may be in play for a QB. It's doubtful that the Texans or Detroit take one that high. I think the Texans sit tight and take their guy next year in a MUCH better QB class. Remember they just got a TON of draft capital. Same with Detroit. They are on the hook with Goff for 3 more seasons. No need to draft his replacement right now.

They have 2-1/2 hours before Ryan's roster bonus is due, so this has to move fast!
-
Yup. I'm not sold on Pickett or Willis and our defense will eat either of them alive. The Falcons know we are interested in a QB. To get their guy, they are going to have to move up.
-
10 yard fast ball against no rush or coverage. Not very impressed.
-
Will they trade up in front of us for one of these two? I HOPE SO!!!!! I would love us to go against one of these rookies next season! Who is the likely trading partner?

Thanks for the recap. I acknowledged the reasoning for the metric, I just think jumping ability isn't very applicable to the success of a NFL QB. A good athletic QB does not necessarily mean a successful NFL QB. I mean, what were Tom Brady's numbers? Pretty putrid I would assume. This is how I would label the top 5 traits of a successful NFL QB. 1) Cerebral 2) Accurate 3) Film junky 4) Arm strength 5) Overall athletic ability

Like a K and P, I could care less about a QB's vertical and broad jump. His 40 time, sure, that's relevant. I get that's part of him being graded as an athlete overall, but jumping ability has little to do with QB success.

FIFY.

Rhule watching Pickett throw playing pocket pool. They are inside, why the hands in the pockets, Matt?
-
I saw the Ian Thomas signing and thought this FA period was going to be a poo-show. They turned it around for the most part. I didn't like re-signing Haynes and cutting Fox. I get the cap savings, but I feel Fox is a much better player.
-
Correct and why they won't until after the immediately after the draft depending if they feel they scored their next franchise QB or not.
-
THIS year. They would have already picked up his 5th year option if they meant long term. Again, while Pickett may be the most NFL ready of the bunch, he's still not a day 1 starter...none of the QBs in this class are. If the Giants take a QB it's about 2023, not 2022.

Falcons burned a bridge. Are trying to trade Matty Water.

This is probably Ryan's last deal. Nobody wants his $41M deal this year. He'll be 38 in 2023 and at most will take a 1-2 year veteran deal to be a bridge QB or backup in 2023. More than likely, Ryan will retire. -
Ryan is their QB this season. I don't care how big of fanboys the Pickett and Willis' crew is, neither are ready to start this season. Atlanta is looking to groom a guy for 2023, Ryan's final year. They save $15M by cutting or trading him in that final contract year. If the rookie comes along even slower than expected, they have the luxury to sit him an additional year if need be. As much as I can't stand the Falcons, at least they seem to have a plan in place.

Pickett grew out his thumb and pinky nails.
