Cliff? No, but a step down and flush with positions we are actually good/okay at--OT, CB, S. QBs, WRs and Mayer would be the target here. WRs Quentin Johnston and Jordan Addison along with QBs Levis and Richardson. Some mocks have Stroud sliding if AR-15 and/or Levis get picked beforehand.

This is a depth draft. The more I research I do, the more heavily weighted I feel it is with "4-star" guys than "5-star". The number of "can't miss" prospects are thinner this year, IMO. That's the reason I'm not too worried about sitting around pick 10 (as long as we don't slide past 15).

Or a crystal ball that actually works!

An effective OC is even more important than a QB to be honest. That said, even the best QBs can't work with subpar WRs and TEs. Our TE room is B-A-D, BAD. Yes, they can block, but so can bringing in additional o-linemen like we've been doing with Ervin and Mays. The WRs room is average, so yes, we can upgrade there as well. We have 4 top 100 picks, 7 by pick 150, so it's not like we have to sacrifice one position for another. A solid draft will fill most of the holes on the roster.

Will we get an additoinal draft pick for hiring Wilks full time?
45catfan replied to 45catfan's topic in 2023 NFL Draft
So a promotion within the same organization to HC does not qualify. I wasn't sure, but I doubt teams would promote minority assistants to HC just to swindle an extra 3rd rounder. That would be silly. It should count. That said, If Wilks doesn't land the job here and catches on elsewhere as a HC, then we definitely qualify for the extra pick. -
Tier 1 priorities--totally agree (more specifically ILB) and I'd even say WR. Tier 2 priorities- DE, S, RB, C, DT, OLB. Tier 3 (positions that could be skipped)--OG, OT, CB

It happens every year and QBs slide due to "dumb decisions", lack of QB need or poor/incomplete evaluations. This year and future years will be no different.

Good memory, but Goff is a cast off with the Lions now, Ryan did it once and so did Cam--neither will get a second shot, ever. Point being it's a crap shoot and insinuating the #1 overall is any closer to a sure thing than drafting a QB other than #1 overall is far from the truth. If this were the 2017 draft, we could have our choice of Mahommes or Watson at our current draft slot. Again, tanking is not necessary.
-
I'm normally on your side of things, but outside of the Manning family, #1 overall QBs winning the big one is FAR and few between, especially this millennium.
-
Yep.
-
If it weren't for the Bengals debacle, it probably would look even better.

For all those people pounding the table for a QB and upset we didn't tank hard enough to get "The Guy", look at this track record for those still around starting/contributing: 2011-Andy Dalton: Rd3-#35 2012-Ryan Tannehill: Rd1-#8, Russell Wilson: Rd3-#12 2013-Geno Smith:Rd2-#7 2014-Derek Carr: Rd2-#4, Jimmy G. Rd2-#30 2015-BOTH BENCHED****Jameis Winston: Rd1-#1, Marucs Mariota: Rd1-#2 2016-*Jared Goff: Rd1-#1, *Carson Wentz-Rd1-#2, Jacoby Brissettt: Rd3-#29, Dak Prescott: Rd4-#37 *cast-offs from draft team as 'franchise QBs.' 2017-Patrick Mahommes:Rd1-#10, Deshaun Watson: Rd1-#12 2018-Baker Mayfield: Rd1-#1, Sam Darnold: Rd1-#3, Josh Allen: Rd1-#7, Lamar Jackson: Rd1-#32 2019-Kyler Murray: Rd1-#1, Daniel Jones: Rd1-#6 ***2020-2022 are still on rookie deals, so the jury is still out on them.*** Let that sink in guys. Kyler is the ONLY entrenched former #1 overall that is still standing. His play is marginal at best. So you see, a team doesn't have to tank for the #1 overall pick to get their QB.

We need to upgrade our WR room. See my last mock. DJ is on second contract easy street, Shenault can't get rid of the gadget label, TMJ and Shi Smith are very inconsistent. Not a bad WR room, but is definitely can use some upgrade. Like you said, a tall possession WR and another slot guy to push Shi Smith. I'd like to see us go into camp something like this: Moore, rookie WR, Shenault, WRS rookie, TMJ and Smith.

A 2024 6th and 2025 7th rounder was a STEAL for him. Rumor was we were going to cut him outright if we couldn't find any takers. Lucky for us, Arizona was decimated by injury at the WR position and got desperate. Man were they desperate!

I like this one, I just missed out on an ILB and center.
-
He's 1-1 on leg catches. Let's go!!!!
-
Nah, the attempted TD pass. It wasn't a PBU, just an incomplete pass. It was a quick out in the end zone. Sam lead him too much to the sideline, apparently. On the real speed replay, DJ didn't seem to be going 100%. My contention is maybe Darnold threw to a spot and DJ simply didn't get there.
-
On the TD pass that Sam missed to Moore, DJ looked like he was jogging. Again, Sam missed him, BUT had DJ been going full speed it may not have been. Less than full speed into the break and likewise out of the break. Not crisp whatsoever.

I don't remember anyone ever saying Burrow was trash. One-year wonder, yes, but not trash. Tua's concern was medical for most people. Herbert was a wildcard. I admit I wasn't one of his biggest fans. Nobody doubted Lawrence, c'mon man...he was the unquestioned #1. Allen was an older draft, but even he took some time to get traction and that was with a stable franchise and a competent staff. Fields isn't trash, BUT I still question how good of a pro he will become. My guess is ultimately middling. Most of them have struggled in since being in the League, but that's the problem. Even "sure things" take time to develop from college to the pros. Herbert has had the most success the quickest and he was probably the least hyped of the guys you mentioned.

I like a lot!!! But will Reich be available? You know he's going to be getting HC calls. Heck, we will be one of them. so, If we hire Wilks for the full-time gig, don't we get an additional 3rd rounder?
-
I'm hoping Michael Mayer is one of them for us. Also one of these WRs we hopefully take: Smith-Njiba/Rashee Rice/AT Perry/Xavier Hutchinson. At RB either Chase Brown/Blake Corum/Isreal Abinkanda/Dwayne McBride. I'd take ILB Jack Campbell or Tommy Eichenburg.
-
Just about where Michael Mayer is projected to be selected. PERFECT!!!
-
I like Wliks as a legit HC candidate. My main problem is him finding the real deal OC. No hot name is going to make a lateral move which means he's going to have to go after a relative unknown.

This particular draft, I'm cool with it.
