  1. We will have first dibs at Darnold in FA, heck Walker for that matter if it came down to it. I'm not against taking a stab at a QB later on in the draft, but passing up a near certain thing for a QB that, at best, looks like a 2-3 year project? Nah, I can't justify it. I bet most people didn't realize that Darnold was statistically better than Mitch yesterday. Trubisky had a running game working for him and a WR that had no problem getting open. That said, he didn't have to outplay Sam because all the parts around him were clicking. Food for thought.
  2. Or we could be the Jets. They have swung for the fences with rookie QBs and completely stuck out...multiple times. If you are not sitting at #1 overall, then you do not have the best shot at a franchise QB. We are at best looking at QB3 and likely QB4. If anyone can sit here and tell me that QB4 is better than WR1, TE1, or DE2 this draft is absolutely nuts.
  3. We all guess, man. Some of us just actually devote a little time to making our guesses more educated and others just shoot from the hip because that's what feels/sounds correct in their head. That's a dig a the Huddle at large--not you personally.
  4. Not really since the early days. For all Hurney's faults, he normally nailed his first rounder. Gettleman was not great. Fitts seems to be nailing his first rounders too.
  5. This is how much this QB class dried up. It's a far-out snapshot of the 2024 class. All but Caleb Williams was initially projected to declare this year. Add Williams and *argh* Drake Maye to that equation and the situation looks a heck of a lot better a year from now. But we have to settle for either Levis and/or Richardson?
  6. So a rookie staff is the best to figure out who their franchise QB is? This isn't Cam at #1. It's not that cut and dry. We are looking at Levis and potentially Richardson--the later as this QB class continues to dry up, his stock is only going to skyrocket. A lot of these college QBs with eligibility left are going back to school.
  7. Draft a top TE: circa 2017---five years and counting. The Panthers are very, VERY, VERY slow learners. I mean, it took nearly a decade to replace Jordan Gross. I guess I have another 5 years to wait for us to draft a Pro Bowl potential TE to replace Olsen.
  8. 100% correct. A top weapon that's polished should take priority over project QBs. I'm not sure the team will see it that way if a QB is dangling in front of them on the draft board though.
  9. I thought Fields was a very gifted athlete that plays the QB position above average. So far, that's panning out as most of his highlights are with his legs. Exhibit A, in the posts above. Now, switch Chicago in that statement to Carolina and see if it makes any sense, whatsoever, to draft a QB this April.
  10. Leary is taking Levis' spot at UK. Let' see how he does against SEC opponents. If he does well, he could very well be a first rounder next draft.
  11. 28th QB in the League is special because he had a rushing TD? Mind you, that's only ahead of Wilson, Heinikce, Mayfield, Wentz and Pickett.
  12. ^^^^^This. We got rid of our only real weapon in CMC. Moore would be a #2 on teams with deep receiving corps. But "DRAFT A QB" they all say. And do what? Have the poor guy throw to Shi Smith, TMJ, Ian Thomas and Chuba out of the backfield? LOl, dude would be set up for failure right out of the gate.
  13. Bo Nix is returning to school. Another late round prospect gone.
  14. Right, so we take a huge gamble on questionable products coming out of college at the QB position when we can take a near certain weapon with a proven track record instead? Makes perfect sense to me.
  15. He's getting better, but far from killing it if you are looking primarily at passing stats--which for a QB you should be.
  16. Eh, he only had two games with 61% completion rate or better. One of the two was against a bottom feeding FCS school in Eastern Washington. So it's not complete hyperbole.
  17. Both Levis and Richardson have the big arm QB fanboys drooling. Stroud and Young are way more complete QBs, but since they can't throw a ball through a brick wall, they are just--meh.
  18. It's not like Fields is killing it either. The "but he has no latent around him" crowd will chime in. WTF do we have in the way of an offensive supporting cast here???? Fields is WAAAAY more polished than Richardson and Justin has struggled mightily. He's getting better, but it will likely be year 4 before we truly know how Fields is going to turn out. I don't think next year will be his 'turn the corner' season and why I said year 4.
  19. Then she takes off the makeup looks like Freddy Kruger. Any QB that has games with 33% and 40% completion rates to go along with a 6.0 and 2.6 QBR has huge question marks for me.
  20. A big armed QB is like a big set of jugs on a chick. That one trait is so damn sexy that they are willing to overlook all the other flaws.
  21. Bingo! So why is it QB or bust with almost everyone? Levis, to me, has bust written all over him.
  22. If it doesn't happen now, it won't happen to after the draft. Too short of a turn around for an incoming GM unless Morgan is promoted. All the work that was put in this fall will go up in smoke. Same thing happened with Hurney. Ironically enough, it was arguably Marty's best draft.
  23. If we trade up for a QB this draft, Fitts needs to be fired ASAP.
  24. That's fine and well if you have an established coaching staff with an established identity. The problem is we will have a rookie coaching staff too. Even Wilks will have to rebuild nearly the entire staff if he's actually retained. Too much for a raw, greenhorn QB to overcome. Let the staff get a year to get their feet underneath them, THEN let them figure out the type of QB they want, that fits their system.
