Corral could be a the biggest beneficiary. That broken foot may have been a blessing in disguise because had he been healthy and got thrown into that QB poo carousel last year--looked like crap, people would be down on him. Being an 'unknown' is a lot better label than getting thrown to the wolves and being labeled a 'loser'.

Brissett, Hienicke and Minshew are a few I wouldn't mind. I don't think the Ravens or Giants let Jackson/Jones get away. Likewise, Cooper Rush or Mike White will likely get locked up before hitting the market. Both guys looked good in relief roles.

We should sign a veteran and draft other positions. I laid out the various reasons in another thread. Sam is an option, but without poking around the QB FA pool first, I would not say he's the veteran option just yet.

okay, they win the division and go nowhere in the playoffs. Meanwhile the rest of the division is getting younger and flush with cap money. Again, this idea that they are contenders is crazy. The only thing I can think of is they are letting these key defensive players in their prime play out their deals while keeping them in the thick of things. They are trying their best to retool on the fly, but I don't see it working.

At some point they are going to have to blow it all up. Why not now? I get there's a staff trying to keep their jobs, but as an organization--GM, owners, they have to realize this is unsustainable. Restructures are fine if BOTH parties agree, but it's going to be tough to get that many players to take a pay cut or push their money out several years. If they are committed to that staff, they say "look, we have to clear our books and it will be a tough couple of years, but we will stick by you as we get though this."

Yep, Jake bounced around and was one of those quality #2 QBs that just couldn't crack the #1 spot, even playing well in spot duty. I remember him being signed to the Panthers to compete with Rodney Pete. He somehow lost out in camp, but when Pete sucked that first half against Jax and got yanked, then in came Jake...well, the rest was history.

I see, all the prorated bonuses comes due at once as soon as the player becomes a FA. It's odd to even bother to spread it out like that if the payout is a lump sum when due. I'm certain there's a reason. Obviously it's to take off cap pressure that season the player signs, but the reasoning is confusing to draw it up like that so far out in the future with the voided years.

If I remember correctly he was on shaky ground last year with the Dolphins because he didn't want to block, essentially being a hybrid WR. Granted, he's a good pass catching TE, but if he's not willing to do the dirty work too...especially at the price he's wanting, then no thanks.

Is that cash owed the rest of the contract then? Why does it still show as dead cap beyond 2023?

Yeah, if we can rip up that old BS contract of his and get actual play out of him at a reasonable price. Do you realize we are paying him a total of $10M in voided years through 2025?

I seemed to remember that Roy was a NT in college at Baylor, but he simply doesn't have the strength in the NFL to anchor. McCall could play there, but how will he look? I doubt he's a starter, possibly a backup NT. Brown will absolutely play outside. They may move him inside on certain packages, but in base formation, he needs to be outside.

Yep, a minimum of four new DL that fits this scheme. Starters and key backups. Considering how often D-linemen rotate out, you don't want a significant drop off in talent. So just acquiring a NT with another DE opposite Brown and calling it a day won't exactly cut it.

The part that worries me. I hope Reich doesn't try to buy his way to a winning record next year and get impatient like Rhule did. Our cap for 2024 is in great shape, let's not screw that up for immediate gratification. As long as we are competitive and hover around the .500 mark, I would call that a success for a first-year staff.

If we had a ton of cap space, I'd be more inclined to pick up a few 3-4 D-linemen in FA and draft for depth. That's still likely the plan, be we have to be creative and go 'Dollar General' shopping. The last thing I want is a bunch of Ioannidis-type of contracts for short term rentals.

Ioannidis is a FA...he's still on our books due to voided* years. *I absolutely freaking HATE that accounting BS. Let's not turn into the Saints.

Kinda silly to adjust his system due to a few low-end/under performing/back up players from our old 4-3 scheme. Bite the bullet and basically retool the entire DL. The back seven will be fine, not much concern there. Don't hold up the plan because of a few miscast players.

Anderson is a FA. So that leaves Brown who is a starter at one end. Putting names into holes in the roster doesn't work. McCall/Roy are true NTs, let alone starting quality? YGM is a 5-tech? We have two starting holes and 3, possibly 4, backups spots. Honestly, I would shop YGM and see what we can get for him. Once it's all said and done, Roy and McCall may not even make the roster with this new scheme. Let's be honest here.

Yes, but it was a hybrid system. I want 3-4 players specifically for a 3-4 system, namely the DL. I'm not all that worried about the DEs moving to OLBs and our OLBs moving to the inside. That's just conceptual stuff and getting a ton of reps. What we have currently for a DL in a 3-4 scheme is vastly lacking.

The back 7 yes, but it made our thin DL that much thinner...like a complete overhaul with exception to Brown.

We will need an experienced NT in FA and draft one as well. McCall has the size, but dude was an undrafted FA. I wouldn't put too much stock into him. Again, Anderson has played in both schemes, so it would make sense to re-sign him at least for a season while these guys adapt to the 3-4. I don't doubt Brown can move to the outside, but it will take some time to get used to.

Roy and YGM seem like misfits in this system. Roy got bullied as a 3-tech, won't hold up as a NT. YGM is undersized for a 3-4 end and not fast enough to be a OLB. I'd re-sign Anderson to be an end. Luckily, our undersized DEs in a 4-3 are now perfect OLBs in a 3-4. I wouldn't mind hanging on to Haynes now. He was strictly a one down player in a 4-3. We really have to beef up our DL now. There was a need for some upgrade/depth in the 4-3 scheme, more so now even with one less linemen; we still need players here for the schematic fit. I was purely wanting to focus on offense this off season with a tweak to the defense. I like the Evero hire, but it made our needs on defense increase. Given our cap and limited draft picks, this is going to be a tough task.
